Operation Monsun Environmentally & Graphics Upgrade v300

The Operation Monsun Environmentally & Graphics Upgrade (OMEGU) is designed to provide a upgrade to the environment along with changes to the graphic elements. Also there will be upgrades to various sounds and crew voices to enhance the in game experience when operating in the Atlantic Theater of Operations (ATO).

OMEGU has three mods at its core, for environment upgrades, #1 Real Environment mod install from NEW Real Environment mod, Graphics and Sound Sh3toSh4 V3_RSRDC_OM and for plotting OM_Plot_V300.

Special Note: full readmes for Real Environment mod, Sh3toSh4.V3_RSRDC_OM and OM_Plot_V300 can be found in Support/OM_Readme_files directory.

-----------------------------------------------------------

General Configuration

There have been changes that allow user who wish to run the Stock SH4 + RSRDC + OM to also run OMEGU and take advantage of the upgrades with in the mode.

There have been changes to menu.txt provide support for player who play both ATO and PTO.

New / Modified Command Keys

Starting with v300 there will be three different keyboard setups.

Stock + added commands
Stock + added commands + Multi-Key commands
SH3 stock mod to support SH4 + added commands

The Stock plus added commands is the default command keys when loading v300 and the other two are added on mods: OM_MultiCmd_Keys (Stock + added commands + Multi-Key commands) and OM_SH3_Command_Keys (SH3 stock + added commands). The following are the added commands to default v300

The Enter key no longer fire the torpedoes, you must now use the fire button on the periscope or on the attack map.

The Enter key now sets time to normal (i.e. 1X) if TC is being used

Shift X toggles the snorkel

Shift R Current Weather

R depth under the keel

; (Semi-colon) return to Navigators plotted course

CTRL F3 - Go to Attack 2D Map

CTRL B - Toggle Battle Stations

CTRL R - Maximum range at current speed

Shift I Identify Target

-----------------------------------------

Stock + added commands + Multi-Key commands are the same as default v300 but with the following addations:

Crash Dive set speed to flank, dive to assign crash depth, lower all periscopes, and lower snorkel.

Periscope Depth dive to assign periscope depth, and set speed to ahead standard

Surface return to surface, set speed to ahead standard, lower all periscopes, and lower snorkel.

; (Semi-colon) return to Navigators plotted course and set speed to ahead standard

-----------------------------------------

SH3 stock mod to support SH4 + added commands

The command key set is the original from SH3with the following changes:

The Enter key now sets time to normal (i.e. 1X) if TC is being used

Shift X toggles the snorkel

Shift R Current Weather

R depth under the keel

; (Semi-colon) return to Navigators plotted course

CTRL B - Toggle Battle Stations

CTRL R - Maximum range at current speed

Shift I Identify Target

A copy of the SH3 Keyboard layout (SH3_QRC_PG1.jpg /SH3_QRC_PG2.jpg) can be found in the under the main directory of SH4

========================================

New Command Icons

Control Room: Rise/Lower Snorkel/Radar

Nav Map: Search Pattern 1 / 2 / 3 and Max Range at current speed

Periscope: ID Target, Rise/Lower Snorkel/Radar

Bridge: Current Weather, ID Target , Report Nearest Visual Target

Deckgun: Target Nearest Warship, Target Nearest Merchant

Nav/Attack Maps

Smaller Stop Watch and Nav Tools

In this version the speed tails are gone, ALL the ships / aircraft are now color coded gray/light black, all ships (warships and merchants) & aircraft have a square ship. The user will now have to VID (Visual ID) all tracks before they can engage them. Of note the .dds line used for the hydrophone bearing line is also use for the torpedo track Attack_2D_map, in my version there is still enough of the line left to tell were the torpedo is still going. Last, I have included metric and imperial nomograph that can be used to generate a speed solution for the ship you're tracking.

Addition changes include the removal of the Ship Type and Speed information from the contact display on the Nav/Attack Maps. Further more Course information is now a numerical value vice a N/S/E/W value.

These values are: N 000, 025, 045, 075, E 090, 120, 135, 160, S 180, 210, 225, 250, W270, 295, 315, 340

Estimated speed reports from sensor operators are now a numerical value vice Slow/ Medium/Fast. These values are

DIW
Moving at 1 to 5 Kts
Moving at 5 to 10 Kts
Moving at 10 to 15 kts
Moving at 15 kts plus

Contact ranges are now set to:

Short =3000 meters
Medium = 10000 meters
Long = 20000 meters

Contact sizes are now set to:

Single Contact Min Size=1
Small Contact Min Size=3
Medium Contact Min Size=7
Large Contact Min Size=13

Attack Periscope.

Uboat

Have added Karamazovnew KiUB mod, and it is STRONGLY recommended that you read the KiUB Users Guide which can be found in Support\OM_Readme_files\ directory before operation the Attack periscope.

Any questions about the KiUB mod, contact Karamazovnew via this thread

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=152590

========

Fleet Boat

Have added the TGT Dials to PK Fix that allows you to make manual enters into the TDC. For details on how this mod works go to Support\OM_Readme_files\ directory and review the TGT DIALS TO PK FIX Readme and the TGT Dials to PK Fix how to guide

Uboat Emblems

You can now assign historically accurate emblem to the Uboats turm. This can be done when in port. You can also add your own custom emblem if you desire, see Custom Uboat Emblems in the Support\OM_Readme_files\ directory.

Special Note: This new capability can only be activated at the start of a New Career. If you are already started a career, you will not be able to add an emblem without hand editing your current campaign file. For details see Custom Uboat Emblems in the Support\OM_Readme_files\ directory.

Environment

The environment is based Real Environment (RE) by Kriller2 and W_clear with the following changes:

Revised EnvColor_xxx.dat and SkyColors_xxx.dat

Using the original EnvColor_Alt.dat from RE as a baseline, adjusted the watercolors to be more representative of the ATO, again using EnvColor_Alt.dat from RE, adjusted the watercolors for the Arctic and the Mediterranean (based on the values from my personal version of SH3). Also included is a new set of files called EnvColor_Pac.dat and SkyColors_Pac.dat

The baseline environment in OMEGU is the Atlantic/Arctic and you will be able to switch between the Mediterranean and the Pacific environments using the two min-mods that come with OMEGU ( OM_Med_Env, and OM_Pac_Env). The recommendations are to switch environments based on your current area of operations.

Special Note: If you're using a RSRDC + OM install, ensure that you activate the OM_Pac_Env before playing the US side.

Graphics

Water streams and/or diesel exhausts to U-boats IIB, IIC, IID, VIIB, VIIC, IXA, IXB, IXC, IXC40, IXD2.

New Hi-Res Skins for all Type II, VII, IX and XXI

New German Crew uniforms

Sound

From Sh3toSh4.V3_RSRDC_OM by Captain von Keldunk have added the following:

German Speech
ATO version of Crash Dive
ATO version of Dive Alarm
ATO version of Emergency Blow
ATO version of Battle Stations
ATO version of passing thermal layer
ATO version of relieve watch
ATO version of Submarine Surface

========

OM Harder Escorts

OM_Harder_Escort_L1
OM_Harder_Escort_L2

OM_Harder_Escort is a mod to change the AI behavior of Convoy Escorts in OMv720. There are two versions, L1 and L2, with the only difference between the two is at L2 has modified escort hydrophones/sonar and L1 doesn't. In both cases the escorts have become more aggressive and with each passing year of the war get harder and it should also be noted that L2 can be very difficult.

Added CrewMember3D.upc to the US side to ensure that USN crew doesn't speak german

Added some new revised German Speech files

Added new voice files to the US side to ensure that USN crew doesn't speak German

Added new "water stream fix" for the Type IX Uboats

OMEGU v300 Patch 6

Added the KiUB torpedo and TDC panels to the observation scope and UZO by Hitman

Added Added ScompassMod which corrects the bridge gyrocompasses and telegraph dials for Uboats Type IIC,VIIA,VIIB,VIIC, and VIID by Sammi79

Support for OM V720 Patch 4

----------------------------

OMEGU v300 Patch 7

Add more fixes by Sammi79 i.e.

Dial fixes : -

fixed Bridge dials on types : IIC,IID,VIIA,VIIB,VIIC,VIIC-41,VIIC-UFlak,VIID,IX,IXB,IXC,IXC-40,IXD2,XXI

fixed minute hand on clock in sonar station on all type VIIs and all type IXs

Cameras.dat changes :-

fixed the 'Radar View/AScope View' on all Uboats so they function like the 'Hydrophone View'

Added MechShocksPendulum camera behaviour to Hydrophone & Radar Station Views to give motion FX like in the command room.

Extended the rotation range of the Hydrophone View X-axis and cut the X&Y-axis rotation speed, Radar Views have identical limits.

I ended up using freecam with 0 movement values for the radar positions, for some reason it was the only way I could retain control of the rotational axis. Not being able to move the radar view may not be popular, the wheel is harder to see than the dial in the hydrophone view so, see what you think. It is easy to adjust the viewpoint position if you think it could be better placed.

Special note: AOBF 16-9 Res mod is no longer required and should be removed

-----------------------

Added KiUB_English Mod

Replaces all labels KiUB in with English terms

------------------------

Added OMEGU_English Mod

This mod restores English speech to Uboat crews for those users that don't speak German

OMEGU has three mods at its core, for environment upgrades, “#1 Real Environment mod install” from “NEW Real Environment mod”, Graphics and Sound “Sh3toSh4 V3_RSRDC_OM” and for plotting “OM_Plot_V300”.

Any chance you could be releasing them separately? For some of us it is a bit painful to download each time the whole 370+ MB pack just to get an update in one of the items :damn:

Don't worry I'm not going to do another full version any time soon

Also any small updates will come out as a patch so you won't have to download the entire package again

Has anyone tried installing this over RFB? I love the eye candy but I prefer RFB's ship damage model. I can't decide which I'd rather have, and instead of choosing, I'd like to see if I can get both. Thoughts?

For sh3 there was a small tool which let you edit the keybindings. Is there a tool for SH4 also?

in the Kuib I sometimes have to press the update button twice. So I was thinking to make a keybind for it

1. You need to read the install instructions again.

2. OM uses the "same" damage model as RFB

The program is called "SetKeys" and the last version is 1.3. If you use it on SH4 Command files, be careful, there are differences in the "header section" of command.cfg and your going to have to do some hand edits to ensure it works correctly.

If you're talking about the TDC autoupdate "button" I advice against using key binds. It's not a button, it's a dial. With any dial, if you click in the exact center, it will not change. So press a bit to the side.
However, if you're keen on using a keybind, make sure to give the same keybind to the "radar_toggle_sweep_focus" command. Otherwise, the Autoupdate will toggle ON/OFF but the bulb will stay the same.

Hello Lurker,

I have another issue. I keep getting a CTD. When I got the first one I figured it was maybe something on my end. I completely removed and re installed SH4. I have also re downloaded and unzipped the mods but the problem still occurs. I start a career in the 2nd Flotilla type IX in the earliest date in 39. I run the first patrol no problem. When I return to base around Sept 22nd I dish out medals and rank advancements load torpedoes. I then leave base, ends up being October 28 I believe. Everything works fine till I save the game again. When I try to open the save or the entering or leaving base save, the game CTD's. It does not seem to matter when I save either, can be one game day or 4 game day's etc.

Thanks in advance.

unable to recreate your problem

I don't know if it makes a difference but I was mistaken on the date, the date out of port on the second patrol is Sept 28. I tried again and if I just arm and refuel everything is fine, its only when I end patrol do I get the CTD. This only seems to happen with the Type IX. I have many patrols in a VIIB with no issues.

Thanks for you time and effort.

Stupid Steve strikes again. I was doing the new training missions and during the deck gun training I noticed my Type IX still has black holes where the guages should be. Is this something supposed to be fixed in OMEGU or do I need to install something else to take care of it?

Lurker,

The problem I had did not have anything to do with any of the mods or game. It seems that I had a hard drive that some how was corrupting the data it was writing. 5 patrols on new drive with no issues.

This mod along with OM is fantastic. Thanks to you for all your efforts and to the other modders involved in your work.

Which? From RFB1.5?

I have noticed it when for sinking of Yamato in both case in your excellent campaigns(RSRDC) was required ten torpedoes. And after hits of six torpedoes the speed of the goal did not decrease. :)

karamazovnew

Nit, you won't be sinking the Yamato as a German. I've sunk my fair share of Queen Elisabeth battleships and they go down with just 3 torpedoes. Oh wait... I increased the damage by 20%... so... 4 torpedoes. If you hit a critical munitions magazine the effects will be dramatic. I've sunk a Heavy cruiser with just one torpedo under the engine room. The torpedo went a bit aft and struck the second turret area. I didn't expect that, I only hoped to disable it.

Most ships sink with just one magnetic torpedo if you aim it well. Note that ripping open a full cargo hold doesn't do **** in real life either. Always aim for the center of the ship. Worst case scenario, you'll disable their engines. The damage model is very realistic and the only problem is that the new KMFS ships don't show visible damage and don't start to visually sink until they are registered as sunk.

PS. I'm not exactly sure where the Water holds are on the ships or if they're even modelled. On modern ships they're situated at the stern. Flooding that area will only make the crew thirsty, not sink the ship :)

I wished to test the damage model only and used Balao, Mk23, Jun 44.
In the first case I used RSRDC550+OM+OMEGU, in the second - RFB20+RSRDC575 (both with patches).
In both cases results was identical: after six hits of torpedoes Yamato continued to move with speed of ~20 knots and it was necessary to do mad race in surface position among the ships. Only after the seventh torpedo speed started to fall.

My only problem with what you say is, quote, "Balao" and "Yamato". When I complained about bugs in TMO when playing Uboats I got the same reply over and over: "Dude, TMO is for Fleet boats, not U-boats". And they were right.
I don't know what Lurker did on top of the RFB model, but the allied ships sink properly. Test some German torpedoes on a British ship and see how it goes.

I strongly advise only using the mods that Lurker said to. I think he explained the proper order 100 times at least. Using OMEGU over RFB is a big nono. :salute:

The latest version of KiUB is included in OMEGU V300 (make sure you patch it, the current patch is Patch 4). KiUB Alpha 3.0 has been obsolete for months now. I once made a comment that the final version will be worse for 16:10 resolutions than Alpha 3.0. Thank god I was wrong. My last and final version was finished on December 10 and I never offered a link to it. I gave it straight to Lurker.

All complaints and questions regarding using the interface should be made on the KiUB thread only because I know best what's in there. To be honest I'm starting to forget already. I wanted to make a small personal improvement and I had to read some of my own posts to remember how I'd built the damn thing :har:. Thank god I documented each step on the thread. :woot:

RFB is for US boats and OM is the German u-boats. You couldn't use them both at the same time anyway without swapping out sound files all the time. You can always use Multi-SH4 to have separate installations of the game. That way you can play both.

sorry if i sound awkward but i have a german only install, for just playing `opmonson/omegu` and maybe indian ocean (not much)

i spent weeks altering every sound file to my favs from all the german soundpacks i could find.

now i dont understand how you did this so german campaigns use nazi voices and u.s use u.s but id appreciate you telling me which files to remove from the omegu/patch so that my game plays german, from all the 9 voice folders i created even if i play as us sub.

this will really make my day, i love the theory behind it but as i use separate installs, and never had a problem uninstalling my soundpack if i wanted u.s voices id really appreciate knowing how to disable this option.

tbh this is one of those bits that would suit being a extra mod you choose if you want like `harder escorts` for example.

ill just settle for helping me with what files to delete befor i install the mod/patch to stop the us voices being added and seached for by the game.

sorry for post in opmonsun forum.

WARNING

I do not look at “very possible” mod that is out there. If you load a mod up, after RSRDC or OM and JSGME generates a “conflict” warning and you go ahead and loaded it anyway and RSRDC / OM no longer works correctly, “It is NOT my problem”, so don’t ask me to fix it, because I won’t.

This also applies to "any hand edits" to original OM/RSRDC files by users

Those change how the sea and sky look, they're environmental tweaks. If you plan to play in the Atlantic leave them out. If you plan to play in the Mediterranean use the MED_ENV. If you go to the Pacific, use PAC_ENV.

Lurker,

Do you (or any of the contributors) know how to have the control room camera remember it's last position, so that I can move from screen to screen and have the interiorfore cam stay where it was the last time I was there?

RFB 2.0 added this feature, but Luke can't remember how he did it. Can't blame him, with all the changes he made.

I've been hammering away at cameras.dat and the interiors in S3D, but nothing so far.

I'm asking in this thread as OM didn't touch the cameras.dat, but OMEGU does.

The 0 to 125 dial is the Torpedo Straight run. It's only available for Lut torpedoes, as is the small center red-green switch which controls the pattern angle.
I don't have the ability to read minds or hack your computer so you'll need to show me a screenshot of your dial problem. But I can already guess the problem. You're using automatic targeting and you can't figure out why you can't see the AOB Finder wheel, am I right? It's only available in Manual Targeting.

Excellent

But I wanted to raise a point: the Uboat skins with camouflage patterns are OK, but I myself would personally prefer flat ones. The patterns currently in OM are from north atlantic uboats, and not representative of the camouflage ones (If used) in the mediterranean, arctic or tropical seas.

Any chance of changing them or making additional flat ones available at last as option? What is needed to port the fantastic skins from Fubar for SH3 to OMonsoon?

Thanks

One way to force the internal camera to go back to where you left it is to not click F2, or Shift+F2, but click to the bridge, then right-click twice. This will take you to the conning tower and then your last position in the control room.

I use the TMO setting so F9 takes me to the conning tower, then I right-click from there.

*2nd edit* I've been unable to recreate the CTD with patch 5A. Looks like it was the same issue. Thanks!

Lurker,
I'm getting a consistent repeatable CTD with patch 5. I've tested various combinations of OM patches 1 and 2 and OMEGU patches 4 and 5 to narrow it down.

My mod list is:
OM_V705
OMv705_to_V720
OMv720_Patch2
OMEGU_v300
OMEGU_v300_Patch5

I'm running a fresh install with a new campaign - 7th flotilla, starting Jan 1940 with a VIIb. I plot a course west to a point about 200 Km east of Kingston Upon Hull and head north along the coast. At some point along that line, I'll CTD. Running with patch 4, it doesn't crash. I suspect it may have something to do with aircraft since, using patch 4, I generally sight a/c in that area. With patch 5, I never get an aircraft sighting message before it crashes in the same general area.

From the first page readme:

OMEGU and accompanying mods should "ONLY" be installed on a “stock” SH4 v1.5 after OM v720 or RSRDC v550

In following that procedure JSGME warns that OMEGU will overwrite a large amount of OM files (The OMEGU readme does not mention this warning, nor does indicate to ignore it and go on with the install). Since both mods are theoretically just complementary and affect different aspect of the game is it correct to overwrite? Is this all as designed? I presume the white square appears over all American subs, however I have only actually checked all the American fleet school missions, and the first four single missions. It is present only when the sub is submerged.

My install order is:

rsrd 550
rsrd 5xx patch 1
om 705
om 720
om 720 patch 2
omegu 300
omegu 300 patch 5a
kiub english

It appears only with omegu installed. When only rsrd and om are installed, the standard orange circle appears. The square does not appear over U-boats.

Thanks!

Hi Lurker, Omegu appears to have a graphical bug with the American subs.

That's because OM is for German subs only. If you want to sink rising suns you need to disable all OM related mods and go for RFB or TMO. I'm actually surprised that you could start a game with the Americans without crashing to desktop. :hmmm:

Go to Data\Misc\ in OMEGU and remove "UMark.dds"

You can play the US side with the "stock" version of RSRDC and OM at the same time.

Hi,

I've installed
- OM 705
- OM 705 to 720
- OM 720 Patch2
and then , as soon as I add OMEGU, I have CTD on loading the game, even if I just add OMEGU300 or OMEGU300 + Patch5A

I did something wrong?

Go to Data\Misc\ in OMEGU and remove "UMark.dds"

That brings the orange mark back :haha:

But I renamed the original file as well, and that got rid of the mark altogether.

Thank you for your help.

Outstanding mods, by the way. You sir, are a demigod.

Just to be sure, do I have to overwrite the OM files when I install OMEGU with JSGME?

OpsMonsun_V705

OM720_Patch2
OMEGU_v300

What I am wondering is that when I have the OMEGU mod installed, the resolution of the sub skin for example are much worse than without OMEGU, this is especially noticable on the XXI.

Also, the sea is still full of yellow bits... is that supposed to be recolored?

Thanks,

Could you try reinstalling the game and afterwards the mods ? if not just reinstall the mods... or at least try this mod setup (which is the best overall):
RSRDC_SH15_V550
RSRDC_V5xx_Patch1
OpsMonsun_V705
OMv705_to_V720

You might want to remove the Spaxs Uboat sound mod.

OMEGU v300 adds in all the German speech, so it's not really needed anyway. Spaxs will cause CTDs near major ports.

For the longest time I'd get CTDs any time I was near a big port besides St. Nazaire. I ended up getting so frustrated with it that I eventually put SH4 aside for awhile, back around when KIUB was still in beta.

After SH5 was released, I decided to try the OMEGU V300. Anyway to make a long story short, I discovered that OM + OMEGU by themselves didn't cause any CTDs when I launched at a major port like Kiel or Lorient. I could immediately go to the bridge without a CTD. As soon as I installed a sound mod like Spaxs though, instant CTD if I tried to launch while docked at the tender and then switch to the bridge.

The other side of the coin is that the CTD issue prevented me from approaching most ports as well, and could potentially make some saves (if you were too close) to CTD when you loaded them. It was a lot of headache for such an easily fixed problem.

Needless to say, I use this as a method now to troubleshoot new mods to see if they'll behave or not.

I didn't try just OM since OMEGU really really adds a lot to it. Once you've tried it, it's hard to go back. It's like trying to play Stock SH4 almost lol.

Is there any other mods i could use that will advance my OM experience? Compatible mods of course...
The mod KIUB looks awesome, could i instALL This mod with any problems??

Please is there any tutorial out there for manu tdc and firing solutions +plotting courses and intercept courses???

It appears that you don't have OMEGU v300 loaded. If this is, true OM is "NOT" going to run correctly with "add-on" mods that are the "designed" to work with OMEGU installed

The OM_Med and OM_Pac are for the Mediteranean and Pacific areas, respectively. They were added for the flotillas operating in these areas, but definitely would be out of place in the Atlantic. More than likely, having OM_Med_Env is what's causing your game to look out of place.

As for tutorials on manual TDC and whatnot, there are quite a few that cover various aspects and are stickied in the SH4 main forum iirc. For how to use KIUB, there's a PDF file provided within the documentation with OMEGU.

What is it about Spax that causes the CTD's near port? I've got the issue in my OM/OMEGU install, and i'll fix it by removing Spax.

However, it's also in my RFB/RSRD install, where I once had it installed. Needless to say there must be some residual crap left over.

I'd like to manually fix it, because I'm running heavily tweaked mods, and reinstalling would break my heart.

Alright no worries. I can get around it if I'm quick after putting in my solutions. It's just a little obnoxious.

OM + OMEGU's been running pretty flawless otherwise though, which I'm eternally greatful for. Been having fun with your RSRDC with TMO as well. It's hard to really appreciate some of the historical accuracy until you encounter it in game. And not just the typical "big" events. Rather some of those very same forces enroute to an area.

From the readme of OM/OMEGU

WARNING

Any “non” OM/RSRDC mod that is installed “BEFORE or AFTER” OMv705, OMv705_to_v720, OMEGU, RSRDC or OMEGU v300 related mods and JSGME generates a “conflict” with any of the above mods and you continue to install the mod and RSRDC/OM/OMEGU no longer works correctly is “NOT” my problem.

This also applies to "any hand edits" to original OM/RSRDC files by users

Yes I read that in the manual, but I don't understand how a sound mod and uboat skin mod would effect the ocean movement (to make it like jelly). Are you suggesting that the sound or uboat skin is creating a conflict that would cause this? My guess is that there is something else creating the jelly ocean, but I can certainly try disabling the mods (at least the uboat skin, though that mod only overwrites one file which is particular to the type VII uboat as far as I know). If it's not the two extra mods, any other idea what could be causing it?

edit: oh maybe I misunderstood - are you saying that the ghost crew members are caused by the extra two mods? Sorry I'm not sure which problem of mine you're addressing. Thanks.

Tried disabling the u-boat skin and for the moment it appears to have solved the ghost crew members problem. Left Sound enabled since it isn't related to any graphics. Now I still have the occasional jelly ocean so hopefully someone can offer a suggestion to stop that unless there isn't any way to do that.

The best fix would be to also enable the SH3 Commands optional mod in OMEGU.

Otherwise, just edit the Commands.cfg and assign the Q key to "toggle_open_close..." and delete the key assignment of "close tube" and "close selected tube". That will fix your problem. I think Ducimus was the first person to figure this one out. It's also a problem in SH3. AND in Sh5 of course :har:.

I checked the files and even the default commands.cfg for OM/OMEGU has it set up that way. In fact, OM and RFB aren't too different except in a few areas. R for Depth under Keel rather than raise/lower radar, etc.

I'll try the SH3 Command setup and see if that works. I've been playing with GWX3.0 anyway so the command layout's familiar. It's odd because I never had this problem with OM before. I'm not running any extra mods either.

This shouldn't happen mate. I would uninstall everything and try without RSDC. Also make sure that you copy the mods' content correctly (some are folders hidden within folders). There must have been some mistake, because many people can install these mods without problems.

Instead of trying to run RSDC and OM together I use different copies of the entire Silent Hunter Folder. One is used for Pacific mods, the other for OM. This makes the whole setup much less complicated and error prone.

Instead of trying to run RSDC and OM together I use different copies of the entire Silent Hunter Folder. One is used for Pacific mods, the other for OM. This makes the whole setup much less complicated and error prone.

Thanks for the reply, GE..I complied with your suggestion and attempted to set up a pure OM+OMEGU..still fails to load past the initial black screen once OMEGU is enabled.

Thanks for your reply link to the same intructions to which I have repeatedly referred as well, lurker..I get OM installed okay and can play the sim but I'd really like to get OMEGU going too.

I installed in the prescribed order and it always worked without problem.

What version do you have? You must have SH4 + UBM (v1.5).

Pergaps there is some problem with your system, for instance playing the video?

Otherwise there is not much I can suggest to you. Except a redownload, and check if you understand the folder structure the archive unpacks to (OMEGU is packed, may I say a bit unsoundly, in 1 path inside a folder together with several other mods, which has lead to a lot of people installing it wrong)

At this point I would suspect a hosed SH4 1.5 install. I just do not waste time trouble shooting installs, if its exhibiting that behaviour I delete the main folder and copy over the clean fresh one hidden away on the HD just for these instances.

Best of luck!

Did you download OMEGU from SUBSIM or from FileFront?

I downloaded from SUBSIM last night and had the same situation I described in an earlier post.

Downloading now from FileFront to see if I get different results..

EDIT:
Confidence is low that download site makes any difference. The extraction program I use(d) is PeaZip. I downloaded 7-zip and ran it on the original OMEGU file and it: reported no errors while testing the archive, reported successful extraction, and showed the same files/folders/file size count as the PeaZip extracted folder.

I wondered about this as I didn't have an option for multisampling in nvidia control panel.
I don't use nHancer so just wondering if there is a way to disable it. Then go to nvidia control panel and set your antialiasing to application control. Start your game and see if you still get black screen.

Best of luck to you.

I want the atlantic dark sea not the stupid pacific sea coloring and i least want a good sound/speech mod to go with OpMon that would conflict with it. And the most importend question: WHEN?:D

The night visible lines should be easy, using the same trick as karamazov. No to yellowish filter, real periscopes had a orange one, but it could be enabled/disabled, and unless I manage to do the same it won't come into the game.

Printable range table: I'll provide one as soon as I find out what the angular angle in the obs scope is, and if it needs corrections.

When: When it's ready :haha: Don't hold your breath, though, I'm taking now some rest and my activity in naval sim modding will be low for some time.

Is there no longer a stadimeter for use on teh surface now that the notepad has been replaced? I can still guesstimate range pretty well using just the markings on the TBT view but was unsure if I had messed something up with the new patch install. Can always extend the scope just enough to use it, but I don't like extending it on the surface and making myself easier to spot.

Well i have reviewed the information and have decided that i will not be ussing the enviromental add on package, i have no desire to have to get a PhD in Mathematics to run the attack periscope with all that detail. It is no longer an enjoyable experience but way to much hard work. Sorry but it wont work for some of us. I will use the ROW sound improvments and the English/german sound set up by itself and get most of the improvments without the aggrivation. I wish you had allowed for us to NOT use this or allowed us to use the 5A patch, but you have removed it. thanks for the hard work on all of this, and i will proceed as is possible.

It is easy to adjust the viewpoint position if you think it could be better placed.

quick question: Has anybody been able to change the freeroam camera used inside the u-boats? I am thinking here about limiting the degrees of movement and increasing the speed to actually give a feeling of you walking through the sub. I have been playing around with the camera.dat file, even replaced it with the one from RFB just to see what happens but it´s still the same.
Would appreciate any advice, thx

I apologize if this has been discussed before but I just started using OM+OMEGU. After installing OM everything ran fine but after installing OMEGU I started getting lots of CTDs. It took me a while to figure it out but when I applied the 4GB patch to the SH4 exe it took care of the problem. I don't recall seeing anything about this in the readme. I don't know if this is common knowledge that you should do this or this was a problem unique to me but I just wanted to post this in case anybody else has a similar problem in the future. Maybe the OP on this thread could be modified to say 4gb patch recommended if this is indeed a common problem. I am using win7 64.

It was a fresh install no other mods. The 4gb patch was the only thing that fixed it for me. It must have been trying to run in 2gb of RAM and hitting its limit causing the CTDs. I think the patch gave it more "breathing" room allowing the program to use more of my 6GB, fixing the problem. That is weird that you did not have to do this, but I did. I guess it was just a difference in hardware.

The KiUB by Karamazov for observation periscope and UZO is part of Patch 7 for OMEGU. You have to remove the subfolder named "Karamazov" in OMEGU_V300_Patch7_pkg/OMEGU_v300_Patch7/Data/Menu before activation. The observation periscope will have the stock view.

No. Deactivate OMEGU to get rid of the KiUB completely. What's wrong with using the observation periscope?

It's worth persevering with the Kiub. I admit I was missing shots I shouldn't have until I wrote a practice mission to check rangefinding with the stadimeter - it was out, but I suspect that's down to my laptop display driver. Once I worked out the error and how much correction to apply, I started getting good results. Where the Karamazov KiUB really scores is making the stadimeter a reference tool. You're not limited to a preset reference point. Can't see the mast at night? - Just use the stack as your reference and estimate the height difference from the mast in the recog manual. 25% more work for 100% more control - also, satisfying as it is to get the "Torpedo Impact" report - it's twice as satisfying to get it when you make a tricky shot, all by yourself. You don't even mind duds so much, because it means you got them on target..... :)

There's a Guide - it's in .doc format, but you can read it with open office, and probably wordpad, - in the mod folder. The filepath is: OMEGU_v300\Support\OM_Readme_files\KiUB user guide. It's pretty comprehensive. My internet access is fairly limited so I can't do a lot of looking on youtube for tutorial vids. I found one - but it's not for the Karamazov KiUB. I like messing about with movie maker, so the idea of making a tutorial vid appeals, but it strikes me that it's the sort of thing that should be done by someone with more skill than me. The trouble is now I'm thinking about it I'm probably going to do it anyway.....

In case this helps: Here's a screenshot of the attack periscope screen:.....
http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3716/9377074798_0fa64065bc_b.jpg

Left panel: - pretty self explanatory really: T-Geschw = Torpedo speed; Tiefe = Torpedo depth; Pistole = detonating pistol; Laufstrecke = straight running distance, in hundreds of metres, for torpedoes that have FaT pattern running capabilities. - [the dial with the red and green segments sets the direction of the pattern after the straight run is finished]; Einzelshusse = tube selection for individual fire, the T/S dial sets individual or salvo fire; Streuwinkel = Spread angle, for salvo fire; Salvenschusse = Selects tubes to be fired as a salvo.

Either side of the bearing dial, there are two buttons: The left one is the Stadimeter, the right is the AoBF wheel. When you use the stadimeter, you put the waterline over the mast top in the usual way, but then you note where the reference line crosses the vertical degree scale. You match that number up, on the AoBF wheel, with the reference mark appropriate to the magnification you're using, and the target range will be next to the height. The scales run from outer to inner; [1] Target length/height in metres [2] Range x100m/Time/sec [3] Target Height/Length in degrees [4] AoB.

This is a pretty brilliant tool. It will give you all the info you need for a firing solution. use it in conjunction with the ID Target button on the periscope toolbar. Point your head towards the target and set your scope dead ahead and time how long it takes for the target to cross the wire. Then set the time in seconds [using the range scale] against the length [outer scale] and the target speed is under the red index mark. in dim light where you can't get an ID, but you can see enough to time the target through the crosshairs, just note the time and wait until you can ID it to do the sum. Then set your course to cut the target track at 90 deg, and stop working there. If you're not set up for a 90 degree shot then you need accurate range and AoB info, and the PDF tells you how to work that out. It's scary accurate, but you have to make sure your screen resolution returns the right info - mine doesn't, and so I had to do lots of practice shoots to get the correction factor - which is only an issue with hail mary shots anyway - set up for a shot on the beam and you're in target heaven....

Right hand panel - Target info:
Gegnerfahrt = Target speed;
Auftreff-W = Track angle/ impact angle - this is important because past a certain angle - about 20 deg I think - the impact pistol won't work, so you either wait for a favourable angle or use the magnetic pistol and risk a premature detonation;
Gegnerlage = AoB The numbers in the cutaway segment are individual degrees, the dial increments are in tens of degrees. read the number in the colour appropriate to the bearing. In the pic the AoB is 117 port;
Peilung = bearing to target. The lower dial is in tenths of a degree;
Entfernung = Range to target;
The bottom two dials are the gyro angle, once again one is calibrated in whole degrees, the other in tenths;
The blue light in the middle is the manual input button. set your target info, lock the target in the scope, turn off manual input and watch the gyro angle move towards zero - when it gets there, fire.

It's worth playing in the mission editor to build yourself a mission with a stationary sub and four or five stationary targets at various ranges and aspect angles. Make a note of their ranges and headings, run the mission and make sure that the info you're getting from the stadimeter is accurate, and if it isn't, what the correction factor is. If you don't fancy the maths, then doing this will give you an idea of either how much to aim off, or how big a gyro angle means abandoning the shot. Of course, my display is a funny one - yours may be fine, but it's worth checking.

Anyway, I hope this, and the user guide clears up any issues you might have. Manual targeting is the only way to go.....

There are a couple of Kriegsmarine chart mods that I like - and I'd definitely recommend a german language pack - it doesn't seem right having a U-Boat crew sounding American :)

or should i download the spax german speech fix...i used it before

That's a good point. The first time I installed OM/OMEGU I didn't read the documentation and so I didn't unpack the individual modules, so I have no idea what speech pack comes as standard. by the time I'd worked that out, I had DBSM downloaded. Given the work that obviously went into the mod, it seems reasonable that the speech would be made authentic too - my bad....

Hello, I apologize if this has already been addressed, but I have been unable to find clear instructions. I am using SH4 1.5 and I would like to use Operation Monsun with the OM Plot mod. The instructions seem a bit confusing to me as OM Plot says that it is OMEGU minus the eye candy. According to the OM Plot readme:

If you wish to play US Navy and Uboat operations and use OM Plot
OM v705
OM v720
OM v720 Patch4
OM Plot V415

But, according to the Operation Monsun:

If you wish to play US Navy and Uboat operations and use OMEGU
RSRDC v550
RSRDC_V5xx_Patch1
OM v705
OM v720
OM v720 Patch5
OMEGU v300
OMEGU v300 Patch 7

Wouldn't OM Plot V415 take the place of the OMEGU mods in the second list? Is there a reason that the RSRDC mods work with OMEGU, but not with OM Plot?

My concern is that I do want to play both US and German, but I would rather not have to swap mods between or have multiple installs. Is it safe to just swap the OMEGU mods in the second list for the OM Plot mod if that is all I want? If not, what would I be losing by not having the RSRDC mods?

Thanks

Is there any way to get the SH3 style targeting "notepad" back? Where you can estimate speed, AOB, range via stadimeter and send the info to the tdc?

Or is this mod ONLY manual targeting?

Why are a ton of merchants named with random letters? And it even seems like some have duplicate entries

Another thing, is there any way to remove the crosshairs from the binoculars? They really bug me lol.

Finally, is there a hotkey to toggle the TDC on and off? I played a GUI mod for SH3 that set it to "control T" and it was super helpful.

That is based on the American system of identifying ships by the layout. 'F' stands for funnel, 'K' is for kingpost (cargo hoist) and 'M' is for mast. In the US recognition manuals all ships of similar layout are grouped together so it's quick and easy to find the ship type under observation. On the other hand the Germans system was nothing like that, at least as far as I'm aware.

I use Op Monsun, but I don't use OMEGU for that very reason, that it changes a lot more than just the environment.

hmmmm thats kinda unfortunate.

I think it would bother me too much having an american identification system on a german uboat. Im really picky about these things.

No way to fix that im assuming?

I don't know. As I said, it's one of the reasons I don't use OMEGU.

As good as OpMonsun is, GWX just has soooo much polish and for someone as OCD as me, I think it fits me better.
