"Wolfpacks" are what Silent Hunter III lacked the most in my opinion.
You were all alone there in the middle of the atlantic against a convoy of 50 ships and 7 escorts.. unfair.. so unlike the real thing.

the next problem with sh3 was not being able to access the whole boat... but that now has been solved in the upcoming game

I think we would all love to see this in Silent Hunter 5, .. just like it was in aces of the deep.. the mother of all u-boat simulators

Sorry. Pretty much everyone here knows exactly what wolfpacks were, and have been discussing them for months now.

Actually we've been discussing the lack of wolfpacks in SH3 since its release almost five years ago.

fixed your title typo lol

the way the devs reacted to requests for wolfpacks i think IF we see them they will be completely autonomus and nothing you interact with other than a possible AI activity kind of thing.

ps- the devs used the word IF when talking about them more than once so i wouldnt be surprised if they werent in the initial release but if its not then im hoping we see it added maybe as an expansion.

"I really hope SHV has "Torpedoes"" (damn it,.. i did not mean to write 'hole')

For those who don't know what torpedoes are.. they were long metal tubes full of explosives and a battery powered propeller, put together to sink ships.. a bit like an underwater missile..

This is what Silent Hunter III lacked the most in my opinion.

why make fun of the guys post? why not just throw a few laughing smileys like SS did or something?

the subject matter is something that anyone who knows anything about u-boats should know all about but he may not be a history buff

hes young and he could have come to silent hunter for the "game" and not be fully informed.

i laughed when i read the post too but i felt no need to make fun of the guys post.

haahhhahah

common, ShIII did not lack torpedoes

I was just pointing out that what silent hunter III lacked most was
a) wolfpacks
b) all compartments accessible and full crew

If wolfpacks are not in this time i guess critic score will not be very high. :hmmm:

They already said about SH3 in 2005: Where are the wolfpacks? http://www.gamespot.com/pc/sim/silenthunteriii/review.html?tag=tabs;reviews

So we will be in 2010, i really wonder how the game would be received without wolfpacks???

Hint: just don't start a thread about the chef and his soup. There are plenty of threads for that too :har:

Yeah, I understand. I just did a search for the term "Wolfpacks" in this forum alone and only came across a mere 368 posts. Hardly any mention at all.

You sure on this. ;)

Maybe you need to watch a good documentary or read a good U-boat source. Erm, sorry, forgot where I was for a sec there, maybe just watch Das Boot.

Yeah, Wolfpacks tactics are important as they played major part in the battle of atlantic, that said U-boats still fought it out solo for most of the war.
Once Allied radar and air cover was up to scratch (in 1943), the wolf packs were toast. :)

I wasn't making fun, so much as I just thought it was funny. I apologise if you were offended Anton88.

The convoy in Das Boot was discovered by some other uboat. Other uboats were closing in. At one point you could hear depth charges at a distance...
"they are blasting someone"... remember that part?

You had the feeling you were not alone. Thats the whole point im trying to make.
In ShIII,.. its just you and thousands of square miles of ocean

In some mods you might find you have whales and dolphins for company :yep:

So your statement: "You were all alone there in the middle of the atlantic against a convoy of 50 ships and 7 escorts.. unfair.. so unlike the real thing." is based on one scene within one movie? Oookkkaaayyy...

Read JU's post again. ;)

Of course SHV should have wolfpacks. I think we all agree on that.
They were a part of U-boat strategy during the early war years. So it should be included, no matter how rarely we might actually join one, or how scarce they were as the war progressed.
