I've been offline now for 4 or 5 years, and haven't had specific luck searching for an answer to this question yet, tho have found some interesting info ...

I bought SHIII years ago for $40 (thus don't want to purchase new SF free version grrrr) and had such problems installing it that I believe it killed my CD burning drive. Ubi was no help and I eventually cajolled SF support to tell me about SF removal tool. Got it working. Been playing with GWXII for some time now, SHcommander, etc ... and just learned of GWXIII today, and of course I WANT IT!!!

however, i am extremely hesitant to re-install from dvd for fear of destroying my new DVD Burner (which is the drive I would be using to install from)

what I DID do, tho, upon original install, was make a backup copy of that install so I could go back to it without re-install. I have used that method to play with several other mod installs with no problem. So ....
can I just install GWXIII into THAT install again? or are there too many incidental/external files that I absolutely need a total un/re-install?
I've also got JSGME, SHIII Commander, and SHIIIGen, running.

checked out the recent thread about the whole NoCD/NoSF deal .... definitly will be wanting that too i think.

sure hope i don't have to 'do the dance' (as falconers used to call it) again, just got the DVD burner not 4 mnths ago :03:

thanks for any and all help in this matter .... hope i'm not rehashing rehashed hash ...

Yes. A full reinstall is necessary following TOTAL removal of old SH3 and GWX material, to include the "SH3" folder in your "My Documents."

Best method is to uninstall SH3 using the game disk and delete by hand remaining mod files not pulled by the disk.

(Old residual files can come back to haunt you in a number of ways and waste user support spare time. Doing a full reinstallation saves everybody big headaches.)

Just reinstall SH3 using the disk, patch to 1.4, add GWX 3.0, and then add the no-dvd files. Then just remove the disk and put it back in its box for safe-keeping. Starforce will then not be called on to over-speed your drive and will not be able to subsequently damage it.

Furthermore, you can look up the Starforce removal tool here in these forums.

thank you kind sir

crap! I was afraid of that. cuppl ?? tho
why add GWX before no-cd? I've got the SF removal tool, but will I still need to use that even with the no-cd patch? and finally ... um ... i know u can't tell me WHERE to get the no-cd patch, but can u tell me a filename to search the net for or something other helpful in that regard?

again, thanks for your timely reply. s'what I love about this place!!!
and THANK YOU IMMENSELY for GWX in the first place (turns out I've been using 1.x not 2 all this time, so I'm sure there's plenty to look forward to :DL)

oh yeah ... also, can I still do the whole back-up base install and use it to create multiple modded installs? i hope and imagine so.

um ...... never mind ..... i THINK i found the patch ..... not as hard as i thought it might be ..... see if it works ..... ridiculous situation tho .....

:damn::damn::damn:

still wondering 'bout the other questions tho. ... seems there's an app to manage multiple installs too, guess I'll check it out ... anyone know if it works OK??

Artao, just add the no-DvD patch last, after you've completed building your GWX installation.

To manage multiple installations of SH3, just use the program called "Multi-SH3" It includes detailed directions in its readme.

Thanks for the help. Re-install went fine ... I added the No-DVD patch right after 1.4b, then SF removal, then backup install, then GWX3, and now checking out GUI mods on top of that.
Just started first campaign patrol earlier today/last nite and ...

WORKS AWESOME AND IS BEAUTIFUL!! Thank you Thank you Thank You for GWX to the whole team!! :yeah: :salute: :woot:

may need to post question(s) about mod install order, but I'll search first and then maybe put it in a different thread ...

thanks and l8r,
artao

@ Kpt. Lehmann. Do you know where I can get the no DVD patch at?

My hard drives crashed back in June and I lost all of my data that was stored on them. I just finished making a complete and fresh install off the DVD and then installed GWX3.0. Pointing me in the right direction would be a big help.:salute:
