Hi all
This mod add some 40 merchants and tankers to the Jap roster. The units are part of the Merchant Fleet mod of Iambecomelife
and ported by some wilful people into sh4.
Please take note that my only work had been pack the ships into a jsme ready folder. SO all the credits must go to Iambecomelife
for the original mod.
I also included three ships from the Russian roster of Operation Monsun. Credits for these three ships goes to Lurker.
Since this mod dont touch in any way the campaign files, it should be compatible with every mod, but if someone will notice
sudden problems or ctds after enabling it with JSME, it could also be removed without problems.
KNOWN ISSUES:
-The reflections of the ship on the water are terrible...but it's not my fault, and then you 'll notice it only if you go very close to the ship using the external camera and only when the sea is flat. Fixing them is a work well beyond my (scarce) abilities .
-They dont take damage like the SH4 stock ships, but also this is a problem you wont notice unless going very close with the external camera.
As usual, i dont accept any responsibility for any nuclear explosion caused by the use of this mod... :DL
Prepare for the worst...and you can expect the best!
now prepare for the best:-)
I tried to delete all the "civilian" skins from the ships folders, but I'm not 100% sure I did it properly,
so if you spot a Jap ship with a civilian skins or some Us-or neutral markings TRY TO SINK HER and report immediately
the name of the unit. To do so with ease I named each ship with a number.( es Freighter 1...ecc)
DONT FORGET to add the ship names you'll found in the Readme to Ubisoft/SH4/Data/Roster/Names.cfg under the "Sea" column

Excuse my ignorance, I am rather new to this game, what does this mod exactly do? Does it add Ships to the campaign or do I have to make special missions to play against them? Or is it a modder's resource file "only" to be used in other bigger mods?

This mod add ships to the game. These ships will spawn randomly in single missions and campaign. For the moment i only added the Japanese roster so they will appear only under Japanese flag

The files do not seem to extract properly. When I attempt to extract with 7-Zip I get a "File Is Broken" error on 149 files. Win-Rar states "File Is Corrupt" on 150 files.

Yes it downloads fine but sadly there are 149 broken files with trying to open with both 7Zip and RAR. Can you fix and upload again pls?:salute:

Gee, many thanks! It is awesome that SH4 has such an open structure that allows adding units rather easily.
And yes, the file is damaged.

If you download and the file extracts fine, then let us know what program and version you are compressing it with. I also get 149 broken files. Maybe there is something incompatible here.

that worked well, seemed successful. Do we need to add the ships to the roster list by hand? thanks a lot for donig this btw. much appreciated.

get me some pix and I'll host it for you. I don't have time to install it right now and I'm really not comfortable with any mod that requires me to start editing things lol.

If you don't mind I would like to review this file to make sure that the ships included were actually common Japanese types. For instance, Japan had almost no large modern split superstructure freighters, etc. I would also like to add some Japanese civilian skins for use between the outbreak of war and late 1942, along with unique Japanese camoflage schemes for the rest of the war.
Thanks
linerkiller, iambecomelife, I probably discovered how to add skins to existing ships in a none overwriting way. I can't test it atm to see if it works but if you want to take a look at the example mod i made to better understand how it is (hopefully) done, then here it is: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3KXW60CO
If this would work it would make ship-skin addons completely non-conflicting with any other mod.
I hope it DOES work...

SH4 contains a change to skin assignation routines so that there is no need to overwrite. For instance, you can specify a civilian skin for 1939-40 and a camo skin for 1941-1945 even using stock SH4. Did you discover something else that might be beneficial?
One does not have to add anything to the Names.cfg file and that one does not need a new model. Basically a PLUG-IN capability. It will not render a savegame unusable if you remove the mod (when in base). That's possible by simply linking the new CFGs to the original files instead of replacing them or adding new ones.
See: If I would start a new career with copies of old ships (e.g. the merchant pack above) and would remove the mod, any savegame would be unusable as they would link to units that do no longer exist. If you use the plug-in mod you can remove it easily as the savegame files link to the original units that are still there.
It's hard to explain for me, but a quick look at my file^ and you see how easy it is.

ALERT:
I blocked my download.
Thats because i noticed that these ships, if used outside their "habitat" ( OM mod ) did not sink or takes damage properly. And as i said before, fixing this problem is a work beyond my capabilities.
THEN:
I want to excuse myself with Lurker hlb3 for having not credited his work properly.
CONCLUSIONS:
If someone want to sink those freighters. well he could try OM.:yep:
To all who downloaded my pseudomod: Excuse me for having wasted your time:oops:

Perhaps someone could tinker with this mod to make these work with TMO 1.9, would be awseome to have a larger variety of merchants and tankers to sink:salute:
