Could one of you shipbuilders out there create a Japanese daihatsu landing craft? A japanese barge also. These are vessels that were rather important to Japanese and are omitted from SH 4.
Would be nice to have daihatsus and supply barges to use deck and AA guns on:salute:

I'm gonna wager a guess here and say that it can't make it from Japan all the way to the beach by itself. :hmmm: Given that, I'd say there would be an escort or two around that would make attacking these suicidal at best.:dead:

Been there, done that, just never released it... yet...

Barge may be possible if you post some pics.

are there any lst or landing craft for the japs besides reused american lst's?
Edit: you know these would make good fishing vessels too.

very cool miner, hope you will release it soon. Will there be troops on board? Any versions armed with say machine guns? just curious As far as barges go, looking for photos. What program do you use to build ships for SH 4? I may give it a try when i have time.
Oh yea, pretty sure the daihatsu had too shallow of a draft to use torpedos on.The barge i know had too shallow draft for sure, thus why had to close in and use guns on them.
I do know that the Japanese made exstensive use of self propelled unarmed and later armed barges to run supplies among islands, esp in the Solomons. In the Solomons, it became a bit dangerous to run them during the day due to US air presence, they began running them at night, then the PT boats and some submarines caused problems, they armed them and some had escorts to ferry supplies among the solomons. They were also used in the Philippines and i imagine along other costal areas from China to home islands.
I'll search for a photo. The best image i have seen in a sim(and it was a while back) was Combat Flight Simulator 2.There was a barge in there.
ETR, no doubt you would put them in convoys at sea, just create groups of them moving along coastlines or in areas between islands like the Solomons, with escorts sometimes, not always.
I imagine the deck gun and 40 MM bofors would have fun with a daihatsu or a barge loaded with ammo, fuel, troops.
check this out, stumbled across it while searching for photos

Yea thats why I haven't released it yet, having trouble getting the troop nodes in place, for building ships I use S3D, Wings 3D and 3ds max 2009. Cool link by the way.

keltos, would be cool to see them conducting landing operations or moving supplies around while on patrol, come under attack from allied forces. These were small but important craft, always bothered me the devs left them out.

Miner1436, any chance you can release this gem?
Awesome, just awesome. Please release it as is! I'll work on getting crew, cargo and troops on it if that'll help.
tater
PS---Maybe another version with a tarp stretched over the top, too. ;)
PPS---did I mention that this boat is a great addition? Seriously, zip this puppy up, even with no crew it is VERY useful.
I have loads of pictures if you need anything else.

man I forgot this.Miner, ever going to release it?

I've got Miner1436's model in game, both as a static object (deck cargo), and as a functioning ship.
Gotta work on getting it loaded with men, as well as a little more seaworthy (was rocking so much all the crew fell over and died, lol) :)
This is sort of related; does anyone know what wings 3d units are in meters?

cant wait to see it in game!
They'll not be very common outside ports I imagine, except perhaps in invasion forces...

Just an update. I've been testing it, and it's acting like a boat now (was acting like a cork before ;) ).
I tried setting it as both a Landing Craft (type=15) and as a coastal vessel (type=104).
The former is more "proper" but since there are none in any campaign I know of, you'd never see it.
If the latter, then they show up wherever random type=104 calls are in the campaign. In RSRDC, I think this is only harbors.
Anyway, it's more likely to be seen on deck then—when the mod with that sort of stuff shows up ;)
I put a 13mm MG on one, too. Some did get bow MGs in RL.
Right now, they just have the same sailors on them you see on ships. Not ideal, but that's what I have.

will they show in RFB ? or WDAD ?

might look into that, since we might use them too in our mod with your permission..

I'll up some pictures for you in a bit
:yeah:
You are of course welcome to use it. The IJN built some collapsable landing craft for use with submarines. The used the propulsion end of torpedoes as the propulsion!

There is the armed version (you can see the gunner at the bow).

I need sergei to help me with getting the skin mapped better I think... then I I can make them look better. Also, I think the splinter shield need more, but smaller windows, and needs perhaps to be smaller period. Close enough, though! (thanks to miner for the great model!)
Send me what you have, I'll take a look :DL
Excellent work tater, thanx to sergei for the pending skin! Well done guys!
The credits will include:
Skwas (because S3D makes my part of the work trivial)
Miner1436 (the heavy lifting of making the model and base texture maps)
Myself (mucking around in S3D and the game to make it act like a boat)
Sergei (for letting me sidetrack him from other, even cooler work ;) )
Keltos1 for his 13mm MG (since it's a plausible way to have the odd one show up ARMED to keep players honest ;)
I'll try and throw this out the door in the not too distant future in a way that allows people to see it randomly in a plausible way in existing campaigns.
I have to admit one major bias, I'm not going to bother with vetting its appearance in the stock campaign. It'll show up as coastal traffic or not. If it shows up at sea... tough, the stock campaign isn't worth 2 seconds work IMO, anyone who wants can fix that. I'll make every effort to make it work seamlessly for RSRDC and TMO, however.

Hmm, the model in question is about 19 meters long. The Japanese DID have a 17m type, but only built ~163 of them. The built 3229 14m type, and 1140 15m types.
I think I'm gonna scale this model down to 14m ...

I'll try and get a rescaled version image up here soon for ya.

maybe just change the wheelhouse ?
keltos
Not sure how many had the splinter protection for the pilot.
I suppose I could try and fix it. Maybe lower the poop a little, lol.
Course the people are over 1.8 m tall, dunno what the average japanese height was back then :)
Actually, I have pictures with guys standing at the wheel where their heads are OVER the splinter shield. Perhaps that was for normal use, and under fire they'd DUCK, and peer out the window slit. Note that most images show many smaller square holes (6-8 inches square). Another image has + shaped slits all over, and at different heights.

ONI is not accurate in many cases, and sometimes disagrees between versions, least not the drawings. That BSM version looks too big to me. They had a couple 14m versions (14.58m), a 15m type, and a 17m type. The latter was very rare.
ONI below claims the army type is 15m, and the super A is 21m. There was no 21 m type at all.
ONI 41-41I has better images, actually.
The gun shield also needs to be smaller, and curved. The /—\ shape is only a few inches high on the real thing, and the shield is a ) shape.

did you look at the pictures of the real barges i found ?
Nice, didn't see those the first time I saw your post.
That is what my 41-42 I ONI manual shows, much closer to that than what it shows in 208J Supp.
:yep:
If my 3d skills were not as abysmal as they are... actually though, deleting the planar shield and replacing with a cylinder is actually easy. I might give it a go!
Thos images show how terrible the Battlestations Midway version is.
(the more I look at SH4 ship models, the more terrible I realize most are).
( a lot of work for a craft that shouldn't get seen all that much, LOL. Still... What I need is a low-poly version of your 7.7MG, then I can steal a gun shield from another gun we already have and scale it down). I only want a lower poly version cause with so many about, I worry about FR—and I think your excellent gun has as many triangles as the rest of the barge combined—perhaps many more.
