SH4 ATO Vs SH3 GWX

I did a search for this subject so I apologize in advance for not finding it (I am sure its been talked about at length)

Ok... I got operation Monsoon V705,V715A, Patched and hotfixed with OMEGU V210 + hotfix

I also got SH3 GWX Gold installed and working.

I am mostly playing SH4 TMO 1.7 right now (just started with this series a few weeks ago).

I might want to try some U-boat action this weekend, what should I take a crack at first? I messed around with SH3 and of course the graphics seem to be better with SH4 ATO. I also noticed cool stuff like SH3 commander for SH3 GWX etc. I can find my way around both GUIs so far....

So what is the general consensus?

Play both for about 6 months then give us your opinion. Both have something for everyone.

SH3 with GWX and Commander gives a lot more graphic feel for the harbors and such, and a lot more options for crew names, ship names and all the things that make for better immersion.

SH4 with Ops Monsun gives a better looking crew and more of them, along with better looking everything else, longitute and latitude on the maps as well as more detailed grid locations, more realistic crew management (they actually change watch all by themselves), as well as more stability and much faster loading times.

Both have their advantages, and both have their problems. For that reason I switch back and forth on a fairly regular basis.

I have always wanted to try SH3 with GWX Gold... even more so now that there will be no GWX for SH4. Eventually I will give it a couple of patrols just to get the feel... I hear it is spectacular from a details point of view. But for now Ops Monsun in SH4 is my playground.

SH4...as well as more stability and much faster loading times.
I've recieved a couple of questions as to what I meant when I said that SH4 was a little more stable than SH3 with GWX. I was referring to SH3, which has stability problems no matter what mods you use, sometimes crashing for no apparent reason.

I've played SH3/GWX since GWX 1.0. It's a most excellent mod. :yeah:

That said, since I started with Ops Monsun, SH3 is no longer taking up valuable space on my hard drive.

Forgive my ignorance here.... but I havent touched SH4 since sonn after patch 1.4 came out and I felt very let down by the bugs still in it...

What is Ops Monsoon? Is that the TMO mod 1.8? or different mod?

I want to play SH4 again now that some major mods are released but have no idea which major mod to play... I would play every one of them except I only have a few hours a week to play due to work and family.

What wouyld you guys suggest?

And to the original poster... GWX Gold is WONDERFUL...but to compare GWX or even SH3 vanilla to SH 4 is unfair to both. If you love subsims...as I do...PLAY BOTH ;)

OM is Operation Monsun, Lurker's u-boat-specific mod for the U-Boat Add-On. It gives a great campaign involving all u-boat types, and plays quite well. His latest combinations are the OMEGU series, which give greater improvements, especially to the environment.

Your supermod for Uboats is Operation Monsoon. It has versions that can be ran with RFB or TMO.

RFB and TMO are primarly fleet boat supermods, and don't touch the uboat game that much.

RSRD is a PTO campaign mod that can be ran with stock, RFB, or TMO.
