Question. In the above pic it looks like they have a different set of icons? Red ones. I have tried all the "Green Lamp" mods and none work in my OM set up. I am using the latest version of the mod and am just wondering if I'm doing something wrong or if there is a mod I missed for this feature. I like the looks of the green lamp but an not for the life of me get it to work, even in stock 1.4, I tried.
Anyway, can some one help? Thanks, and I can't wait to get to Panama.

Then you shift to the side and U-Boat apears out of no where.

Much like the convoy watch would see at night is my guess. If they could see the low shadow in the water at all. Must have sucked knowing you were being hunted like that.

Disregard the missions until late 1940 I think... my install keeps wanting to send me to Freemantle, Australia... and I know from previous experience that is not right. I just patrol the shipping lanes and the western approaches... it usually works out very nicely. Just remember to take out all the warships FIRST!

Well kudos to you both for your ingenuity and modding wisdom... I look at it like this... someone invented the engine before Henry Ford put it in the model T. Right? Anyway... thanks for getting it started! A very enjoyable diversion... besides, it is nice to be able to destroy the WHOLE convoy for a change. :smug:

My last patrol was off the coast of Halifax. While I was sorely tempted to slink into New York Harbor, I decided against it. I tried it with Halifax and kept getting CTDs every time I got close. I didn't want to spend the extra time just to have more CTDs so I headed back home.
Below are some screenshots I've collected throughout my various 28 war patrols. Until recently, I didn't know how to disable the HUD. You'll notice my HUD evolving to fit my playstyle and to remain somewhat consistant with TMO. ;)
U-48 heading out to sea from St. Nazaire in early 1941.

Somewhere off the coast of Northwestern England. One of the rare moments I'd had where my torpedo salvo actually detonated as intended.

U-48 back in St. Nazaire taking on supplies for her next patrol.
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/ShadowWolf_Kell/U48-3.jpg
U-48 returning home for her last patrol under my command. I didn't know I was going to given the choice of accepting a VII-C or retiring on completion. Note the emblem on the side. I'd just upgraded OM to 720 and added in the OM Emblem upgrades after an SH4 hiatus.
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/ShadowWolf_Kell/U48-4.jpg
U-255 in the mid atlantic, rushing to ambush a convoy at night. Unfortunately I don't have many screenshots before the first Turmumbau upgrade (which happened right after returning to base.) Since I'd been using RUIM, the Turmumbau upgrade bug hit me and I spent awhile trying to figure out how to fix it. I ended up starting a new patrol in Oct of 42 with a VII-C already equipped with one (same date as I was currently in anyway), then copy and pasted the info onto my existing sub. I lost my crew, but since I'd just been transfered to a new sub anyway, I figured it was a bit more realistic. Everything seems to be fixed, and RUIM is no longer installed (except the hat textures.)
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/ShadowWolf_Kell/U255-2.jpg
Later that same evening, sneaking in at a depth of 8m.
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/ShadowWolf_Kell/U255-3.jpg
U-255 off the cost of portugal. Out of torpedos but a full deck gun mazagine made for a rough night for this French freighter.
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/ShadowWolf_Kell/U255-4.jpg
Despite the objections of some of my crew, a Seekatk radar system was installed aboard U-255. If the Allies really can detect it, that just means more tonnage!
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/ShadowWolf_Kell/U255-5.jpg
U-255 in the mid Atlantic in mid 1943, enroute to Nova Scotia. While I had originally only intended to sink 2 ships of this convoy in a night attack, the escorts had other ideas. After 4 hours of frantic evasion, I managed to slip away. After all that work, I decided more tonnage was needed for the effort. Here is a shot of U-255 setting up an end around attack the following morning. I bagged two tankers and slipped away without incident. Despite that, the range limitations of the G7e have been becoming painfully apparent.
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/ShadowWolf_Kell/U255-6.jpg
U-255 somewhere in the vicinity of grid BD55. I was supposed to rendevous with U-463 but the weather was being problematic.
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/ShadowWolf_Kell/U255-7.jpg
After finding U-463 and returning to my plotted course, I was nearly run over by this behemoth two days later near BC54. Visibility was next to nil.
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/ShadowWolf_Kell/U255-8.jpg
I only got a chance to fire off two torpedos (I'd forgotten to toggle autoload after the milkcow.) I was quite surprised at how deep the draft was on this bugger, the R.M.S. Queen Elizabeth. I think I set it for 11 or 12m and was fortunate they both detonated near the stern.
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/ShadowWolf_Kell/U255-9.jpg
The bigger they are, the faster they sink. While the two G73es weren't enough to sink her, 20 deck gun rounds managed to finish her off. For an 83,000 ton ship, I was expecting it to take a lot more than it did.
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/ShadowWolf_Kell/U255-10.jpg
U-255 in grid BD25, taking on supplies from U-487. This was the return leg of my patrol after hitting Halifax. The rest of my patrol was rather uneventful aside from dodging likely PBY and Liberator patrols.

I discovered early in the war that the Beaufighters tend to drop their bombs early when pounded with lead on their initial attack run. The real danger here is that the debris from their destroyed plane will hit your sub, or later in the war they'll hit you with rockets. Against larger planes, hope and pray.
Fortunately you can select nearby friendly airbases and have them send out scouts to help you out a bit as far as intel goes.
Ultimately, the best place to be is...

yep. i was tricked by seeing the gun without the "wintergarten" around. that 37 mm is anyway hopeless. useless against small boats, no faster reload enough for planes. maybe good only for sutherland in low flights.

Ivank - I sent you a PM sometime back with the details on how to fix AA for the Admiral Scheer/OM. Check your PMs...
http://www.jimdeadman.com/images/AS_AAfire.jpg
I do think the reload time should be around 1 sec instead of 5. Same with the 88 and 105 those reload times should be imho around 4-6 sec.
I once saw some film footage of a pak 37mm firing ap rounds at a building (discovery show about the difference between HE and AP rounds) there it was clearly shown that the gun (37mm PAK was similar to 37mm FLAK) could be loaded in about 1 sec time if the loader was prepared.
All the guns 88, 105, 37mm where semi automatic breach loaders. Meaning when the round is loaded the breech is closed manually. After firing the gun empties the chamber automaticly. Thus a loader only has to place the round in the breech.
But gamewise I like the slower reload speed of the 88 and 105. On the 37mm I like to have it shortened :)

A conversation with a long history here. This source gives 2 seconds for the early 3.7mm.

As for the deck guns, yes they could be loaded and fired in as little as 4 seconds. The problem is that the game lets you do that in any weather, and as there was no dedicated fire control system as existed on larger ships, and the submarine is a fairly unstable surface gun platform, the gunner had to manually fire "on the roll", meaning at the exact point when he thought the boat was perfectly level. The difficulty of doing this even on a supposedly calm flat sea meant that 10 seconds was probably a good rate of fire for the best of them, let alone someone with less experience and in even a moderate sea state.

I haven't played Silent Hunter 4 or used any mods in ages - can someone please explain me the pictures of playable Admiral Scheer? Is this part of Operation Monsun, or do I have to install something else too to get the playable Admiral Scheer?

Yes, I am playing Operation Monsun (which is now on Version 705/720), but you can only get the Admiral Scheer for OM if you get Lurker's add-on for it, located here. If you want exactly what I had in those pics, I also use OMEGU V300 and OM Plot v400/402.

OK; call me stupid if you want, but how do I start a campaign with Admiral Scheer? I have installed everything and instructed in the right order and the game works just fine - but how did I start the campaign with Admiral Scheer?

Go into the U-boat Career start area, change the start date to Sept. '40, then change your flotilla to Group West.
