View Full Version : The strangest thing GWX 3.0- any ideas?

I am having some strange views from both my periscopes (both) and my UZO, which is unuseable.

The mouse pointer leaves a track across the screen beside the periscope, the view is not right and there is a strange feature around the outside!

My game is fresh SH3 to v1.4, GWX 3.0 and mods as shown on the list below- anyone else had this?

ps- Everything else works fine, and looks great too- see pic below.

I have tried other versions of the game without this, ie MEG, NYGM etc.

Try first to deinstall all mods and add them one by one to see which causes the problem first. Above all, deinstall OLC's gui first, those graphics look to me like problems with cameras.dat and/or Alpha channels, two things which OLC's mod adds (Most GUI mods will add them in any case).

I would venture that the free camera mod could cause trouble when combined with OLC's gui, unless that free camera mod was specially done for OLC's GUI :hmmm:

Try not running both together first!

What conflicts does JSGME report when you install the mods?

And one other thing...
This is not related to your current problem but what is "Enhanced Damage Effects for OLC Gold"? Is it part of some previous version that I released? If so then you should not be using it. OLC Gold MkII already includes EDE and has fixes that previous versions don't have, so just use that.

I'm no expert on all the mods you have there, but it seems to me that the most likely culprit is the free cameras since OLC modifies much of the camera work and that mod does not appear to be OLC compatible. Just a quick guess for what it is worth.

Thanks guys for your replies.

I removed the freecam v1.1 and the problem disappeared.

After looking at the latest updates, I found that a v1.2 for the freecam is now available which is for GWX and which removes the periscope issues.

After installing it with olc gold (less the enhanced damage effects old file), I still had the same problem, and so it is certainly the freecam that is causing the problem.

However, I then removed OLC gold, installed the v1.2 freecam and the problem is gone, whilst the freecam works fine.

I can therefore only assume that the freecam (even v1.2 for GWX), is not compatible with olc gold.

@ olc- is there any easy cure for this do you think as I really dont want to have to do without your wonderful mod, but really want the freecam mod too!

Many thanks

I experienced an identical problem after installing the extended freecam v1.2 for GWX.

Uninstalling it reverted everything back to normal.

No wonder... Ext Freecam is a mod made for ACM or for simple GWX (just use the correct one). Not for GWX+OLC. If you know your way around the S3D program you can copy the optical values of the scopes from OLC's gui and all should be ok. Ext Freecam is a very well made mod, would be a shame to miss it for 5 minutes work.

I quite agree- all of these mods are well worth having, but I am no modder, and so would need advice if possible from someone who knows?

The best advice would be to talk to Stormfly and ask him to make a compatible version for OLC Mk2. In the meantime why not try ACM too? I've made an "add-on" version of it for OLC's which is small and it's also compatible with TMT v2 and Ext Freecam. After Stormfly (or maybe OLC) helps you you'll only need to remove my addon. Here's the link http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=155366

Thank you for that pearl of wisdom.

Erm- I did actually realise that there was an ACM version and also that there is a GWX version, which I was using, but this is not the problem- it is that freecam is not compatible with OLC gold.

It does not cause CTD and the game runs perfectly other than the issue in my pictures above if you use the two together.
