GWX3 Gold Questions

Sunday is the day....the install of GWX3....bring it on!!!
Ok, enough of that, i'm curious about a couple of things about this mod, more from a technical side of things.....have looked comprehensively (or at least pretty hard) for answers to the following:

As per the Grey Wolves home page it states under support:

"You must install GWX3 GOLD over a CLEAN, UNMODIFIED installation of Silent Hunter 3 with the latest patch (1.4b) (http://www.ubi.com/UK/Downloads/Info.aspx?dlId=801) installed".

How clean and unmodified? Would this mean that if i have only done a few very minor tweaks with Mini Tweaker that i am to erase those and replace with my backups? How "sensitive" is the install to very very minor tweaked stuff? (Excludes SH3 Cmdr due to roll-back)

Secondly, I think i'm pretty clued up as to how to install and create multiple installs of SH3 so I can enjoy various "versions" of this game of all games....

I am assuming (one should never assume, learnt that in the Army years ago) that GWX3 "re-writes" in most cases the core SH3 game files, does it add new files to the core files? (I would imagine it would). It's an approx. 1.33 gb install so would that be a full 1.33 gb additional size allocated to the "core" files? Or some consumed by the over-writing? The additional mods that come with GWX3 would take up how much of the core install of GWX3?
If so, it would answer my next question....does the install of GWX3 Gold change the file structure of the core files?
I'm assuming it over-writes core files "big-time" as it obviously doesn't get activated via JSGME as it's a super mod.

I know it comes with optional mods which can be activated with JSGME, so these optional mods are placed into the mods folder? Then activated via JSGME.

Guess i'm just curious also about the technical side or the "nuts and bolts" of this great mod......hope i haven't rehashed a thread, i've looked and most of the GWX3 threads deal with the more (and if i can put this carefully) basic, general questions of installing.

Perhaps i've answered some of my own questions, if not, looking forward to at least corrections and facts from the experts...

Wow, those are some pretty in depth questions, im certainly no expert but can answer a couple at least...

Its probably "safer" to just uninstall/reinstall everything (+with vista remember to delete the sh3 folder within the virtual store folder too), but if youre 100% confident you have totally rolled back your install to its original 1.4b patched state then you will probably be ok.

I did install gwx over a modified sh3 by accident a while back, it actually worked just fine. Since GWX replaces pretty much every file anyway all the pre-GWX changes were overwritten.
But again its better to be safe than sorry and do a clean install rather than have a botched install.

The GWX install comes complete with JSGME built-in so to speak, so after installing GWX you will have a MODS folder in your sh3 directory containing the optional stuff, all ready to activate should you choose. The JSGME .exe will be in your root sh3 directory.
