Can anyone tell me if the algorithms used by SH4 to calculate torpedo gyro angles (i.e. the TDC calculations) are coded using script files or are hard coded within the .exe/.dlls? If they are in script files, then which one(s)? I am interested in how they work.
Any help would be much appreciated.

they're hardcoded. But I guess they use pretty much the same maths as the historical system used.

OK thanks - do you know where I'd find the historical algorithm? I've googled to no avail.

If you want all the gory details, US Torpedo Data Computer, Mark 3 (http://hnsa.org/doc/tdc/index.htm). They have a whole chapter on underlying theory. Abandon hope all ye who enter there!:D

Many thanks - I'll give it a go
Edit - Just downloaded the first section - excellent stuff! Many thanks once again.
Pythagorean theorem with a mix of very basic physics:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pythagorean_theorem
velocity = distance/time
Known: AoB, target speed, torpedo speed from all those you just calculate the time at which to launch your torpedo.
