I have uploaded a mod which adds Tarakan, Balikpapan, Tandjong Priok, Tjilatjap and Darwin as available bases for refuelling and rearming. Darwin is available for the whole war, the others until they were occupied by the Japanese. The mod can be found in the SH4 Missions and Maps section and is JSGME-ready.
You will most probably have to wait until your mission has ended before you can install the mod if you are at sea; I tested it in a new campaign.

Good job!:salute:

Are they realistic and accurate? Just wondering.

Anyway, here is a direct link:

If you mean by "realistic and accurate" whether they accurately resemble the real ports, then no. Balikpapan, Tandjong Priok and Darwin are the stock SH4 ports; Tarakan and Tjilatjap are unpopulated- just stretches of jungle. So the next step for me is to figure out how to add a few ships at least to these two.
However, if you mean were these ports actually used or available for use in the historical sense, then the answer is yes. Tarakan was, like Balikpapan, a major NEI oil port; Tjilatjap was the only significant port on Java's south coast and was actually used by USN surface vessels on some occasions- USS "Marblehead" was provisionally repaired there after suffering serious bomb damage off the Kangean islands on 4/2/1942 for instance. It was also the destination for USS "Langley" on her ill-fated final voyage. Tandjong Priok was used by the Western Striking Force as its base, and was the final port of call for HMAS "Perth" and USS "Houston". As far as I know none was used as a base by USN subs, but they were used by the RNethN pre-war for refuelling purposes and could have been used by USN subs if it had been necessary.
As for Darwin, it was used as a base by the USN after the loss of Manila, I seem to recall that the tender "Black Hawk" was based there for a time.

will this work with TMO?

I tested it with TMO 1.8 Beta, so yes, it should work with TMO.......... am using it myself right now:D

Edit; file has been withdrawn until further notice to solve compatibility issues with TMO 1.7.

should I deactivate my TMO mod that I installed last night?

No, just the bases mod for now.

I'm working on a revised version which will include Singapore as an extra base, but I have to test whether a US sub will rearm/refuel at a non-US i.e. British base as I would prefer to add Singapore as a British base rather than US- which, of course, it was in reality. The USN did not make any use of Singapore, but Dutch submarines were based there during the initial stages of the campaign for the Malay Barrier so the possibility of US subs doing so definitely existed.
Another aspect I'm looking into is the possibility of adding Dutch bases- unfortunately the stock Mission Editor choices don't include the Netherlands when it comes to bases.

Although the link from filefront is there and you can click on it to download so it looks OK, but when you actually try to download it, you get an error about the file not being found. FileFront is having major issues at the moment and it's affecting a lot of mods. Perhaps someone could upload their copy to the subsim repository?

I believe the mod your talking about is located in the Downloads section of the forum under Missions and Maps as stated below.

Thanks for the reviving this!

Had a quick test/comparison and found no reason for it not to be compatible with TMO 2.0... and links are in the above location.

I've used this TMO 1.7 version for TMO 1.9 without problems, though I have to check whether Ducimus updated/modified the relevant file(s) for TMO 2.0. Haven't had much time for that lately, unfortunately. Is also available in the "Missions and Maps" section for SH4 downloads on this site.

Just don't enable while underway in a career...

Resulted in two "Torpedo fired, Sir!", a loss of all waypoints, ships shape and all kind of strange noises... :88)

But in port, no problems!

Looks like Ducimus made no changes in the relevant file for 2.0 so the mod for TMO 1.7 should also be OK for TMO 2.0. Am now testing new versions (for stock SH4 + UBM plus for TMO) which will make Ambon, Balikpapan, Tandjong Priok, Tarakan and Tjilatjap Dutch bases rather than US- which, of course, they were. Unfortunately I haven't been able to do the same yet for Surabaya (haven't found a "delete" function in Mission Editor), nor been able to change at least part of Surabaya's harbour traffic from US to Dutch flag- this seems to be hard-coded in the sim.

Hi-lite the base symbol and then use the delete key on your keyboard

In the mission editor, The ships are taken from the "Sea" tab, and which country determines the flag. There are a limited number of Netherland ships available. Just remove the US ship and put a dutch ship in it's place. Flags are not hardcoded, in fact there is a thread in here where they created a 'Subsim' flag.

Played three Asiatic Fleet campaigns in TMO 2.0 with Surabaya (and the other Dutch bases) altered to Netherlands rather than US base with three different sub types (up to March 1942) and in each case was able to dock/end patrols without problems, so this works- thanks for the tip, Lurker! Was under the impression that base nationality was important for ending patrols but this is clearly not the case. Will test the updated version for stock SH4 + UBM as well before releasing the new versions.

Gerrit - any updates on the revised TMO 2.0 version?

GerritJ9

Both versions, for stock SH4 + UBM and for TMO, are undergoing final testing- all bases that were Dutch historically are now Dutch instead of US, including Surabaya; campaign testing so far has not shown any problems with using Surabaya as Dutch rather than US- patrols can be started and ended there in the normal way :).

Have just created a separate installation of SH4 + UBM + RFB 2.0, and discovered that RFB does not alter the stock US_Navalbases.mis file. The extra Allied bases mod for stock SH4 + UBM will therefore most probably also work with RFB- will test this first before confirming this though.

RFB doesn't mess with the campaign, which is why RSRDC is pretty much obligatory.

Am now working on the US_HarbourTraffic file with the object of making the traffic in Soerabaja, at least, more realistic (within limits of the stock SH4 ship pack)- the "Brooklyn" type light cruiser has been replaced by the "Northampton" heavy cruiser for instance. "Boise" was never in Soerabaja between 8/12/1941 and 1/3/42 as far as I have been able to discover, but "Houston" certainly was! Will probably also do some work on harbour traffic for Singapore and other locations.

Nice attention to detail! It will be good to see the Asiatic Fleet and ABDA while they last in game.
