I originally posted this in SH5, my apologies to the Moderators.

Hey Folks, I dont post here much, I like to spend my free time sinking, there never seems to be enough time.

The Mrs. Infected our computer with spyware, and then went on a purge of files trying to get rid of it, and deleted something from GWX, :stare: and it would not load, so I went through the onerous process of uninstalling everything and re-installing.

Everything went very well and easy, until I tried to start the game, I got passed the GWX flash screen, and the movie, and then on the next screen that loads into the campaign menu, the little red bar loaded and filled full, but never flashed over into the menu. :wah: I am running Windows XP, and I installed a nice new copy of SH3, and patched to US v1.4. If anyone could help this Captain would be very appreciative.

Havent been here in months, very excited about SH5!

Thanks in advance and Cheers from Halifax

Did you clean your registry and delete or rename SH3 in My documents? Did you uninstall from the disc?

Yes I did, I uninstalled from the disc, 4x now over the last 7hours, now I cant even get it to patch to 1.4, through ubi, I don't know the exact error, but it says there is something wrong with the menu??

Sorry, just tried to re-install from my disk that I have been using for 3 years now, and got the following message when I tried to install the patch to 1.4:

This program cannot update the installed version of Silent Hunter III US DVD v.1.0 to 1.3 because of the following reason:

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter III\Data\Menu\De_help.txt:Unknown Version

Does anyone know what this means or how to fix it? I have never come across this problem before, and have done this many times over the years.

Thanks in advance

Sounds like you've got some more training to do with the Mrs.:haha:

If you haven't already, make sure you've deleted any SH3 folders/files in your "My documents" folder.

Your error said it could not update SH3 US DVD.
My 1.4 patch is labelled " silenthunter3_vnnn_v14b_emeadvd "
Is it possible you have the wrong patch?

I don't think that i have the wrong patch, I have used this patch before, from the same source- ubi.com never tried the emea one, only US as I am in North America, will it work with the North American release?

And yes, do need to train the Mrs. .....:03:

Interesting, just got the original, unpatched into the menu, going to try again now.

You also need to go to where SH3 was installed and delete the leftover files you will find there. SH3 leaves behind 4 .txt files when it uninstalls, two of them being menu files.

Do a search for the Ubisoft folder under your program files. DELETE the Silent Hunter III folder within; as previously stated, it leaves files that will interfere with a new install.
