i need a bit of help with takin shots with my eels. Ive just started my first career at 90% realism. Ive left my comfort zone of 53%. I have everything on except i have still use Gods eye view and stealth meter.

Now i started my career in 1939 and i only use G7e torpedoes because they dont leave a bubble trail. Most of my shots are made at between 1.2km and 500m. Now im a master at finding range, bearing, and heading (or my watch officer can do 2 of those 3 ;)) and getting into a firing position well ahead of the target vessel.

When i fire at a vessel that is 800m out i usually wait until its bearing at 345 or 015 and fire the first torpedo. Then i wait to its bearin 350 or 010 and then fire the second. (Since i am in a IIA i save the last tube for a coup de grace).

What i really need to know is at what bearing should I fire my eel when they are at long range and medium range. I know the kill zone is between 340-0 and 0-20. What i need is a way to calculate the exact bearing when i fire.

....and the longer the distance, the harder it becomes http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/pirate.gif

well actually i found an easier way to do it.

Find out how long your torpedo will take to reach the set distance.

Then lock on the ship with uzo/periscope and mark its bearing down.

After marking the first bearing time for ship for the ammount of time it would take the torpedo to reach the target area.

After the time is up mark down the new bearing of the ship.

Add or subtract from the original bearing with the new one and then that number should be used to determine at what bearing you should fire exactly.

Why not do all the homework, put the information into the TDC, and let it do the math?
Then all you have to do is set your periscore or UZO to where the angle reads 000.
When the part of the ship you want for the center of your attack crosses the centerline, Fire.
800 meters is the optimum shot, so even if you made some slight errors (I think we all do) you should still score fantasticaly. You seem to have a very good routine.
Keep up the good work U-_ _.

Didn't the real crews make use of the TDC? That was it's purpose, no?

Oh yeah; don't forget to remind your crew to use lots of vaseline on their eels before inserting them into the tube.:D
