dear dev team,

i am playing the sh series since its first part. one thing i was missing in sh3 and 4: we couldnt write anything on the map like times of observation points, first sightings etc.

also a possibility to navigate would be nice. it is an easy feature: give us a button for the WO to check the boats position depending on weather, time, sun (day or night). if the conditions are good, he gives us a good position. we have to plot until the next WO info... this feature would need a real round world. this could also help to see enemy shippings masts before their hulls.

another very important point is sensoring: convoys were hearable at more than 100 km, single contacts only up to 25 km. so please give convoays a higher sound volume. also it should be possible to see the funnel smoke of coal burners up to 50 km...

i think these points are easy to implement but would change gameplay in a big way. you need to generate less contacts but players would find them easier (and this would be more realistic)

just my 50 cent...

Yes, YES!
Visual range / draw distance in Sh4 was horrible, I'd rather have a smaller less realistic 16km atmosphere/Horizon line and actually be able to SEE masts and smoke on the horizon. Rather than have a 30-50km one where ships can only be rendered at around 20km  - that really REALLY killed SH4 for me.
We dont need to be able to see an extra 20km of 'just water', it is completely pointless.

I dont think an actual 'round world' is going to happen - but everything else is possible to do.

Pointless indeed; not to mention a huge waste of resources in terms of computing power.

SH5's visual radius is 25km... at least the build shown at gamescom in Cologne is

I dont think an actual 'round world' is going to happen - but everything else is possible to do.It doesn't really have to be spherical. But just appear so on the horizon locally. By that i mean that taller ships or it's smoke is partially hiding beneath the horizon if they are beyond the it. It would make a world of difference. Speaking litterally and figuratively.

I can live with the fact that the map is squarish and that the polar regions are stretched. I see no improvement if the player has to draw great-circle route. It just makes it more difficult to play with the drawing tools. Infact, displaying a really sperical map/globe detracts from the immersion that SH5 is supposed to improve, and certainly not in sync with the way navigators did their work historically. Maps have allways been flat on a table. They didn't have big globes in subs.

So long as ships also render at 25 km that is fine, but if they pop-up at say 20km, then there is no point.
Im just saying the visual range (horizion) must match the draw distance for ships, otherwise its abit, well... crap - for lack of better word.
