'Cloud ship' scheme to deflect the sun's rays is favourite to cut global warming <H2>Ships with giant funnels which travel the world's seas creating more clouds to deflect the sun's rays could help cut global warming, say scientists.
A bit far fetched to say the least but something in me thinks this is not a good idea :rotfl

I was kinda expecting massive blimps flying around, which would be a fair bit more awesome. :rotfl:

How come I see the law of unintended consequences coming into play here, should this fantasy ever get off the ground?

Don't worry we'll re-base a couple Me109 Squadrons to deal with them. :rotfl:

Pfft, give the Me 262 the chance it should have had :O:

It's called "global dimming" IIRC. The theory has been around for some years now that the exhaust gasses from industry and traffic are causing the atmosphere to let less light through to the ground and by doing this impeding global warming....
But cloud ships sounds really stupid even to me.

Did you say something?:arrgh!:

The real issue if you believe such a thing is that the 'greenhouse gasses' do not let the radient heat escape. Much like putting a lid on a pot of water, it boils faster.
Thats why clear nights are much cooler than cloudy nights.
Oh and the 262 would have kicked ass...... if it had duration.. oh and that silly flame out problem.. and the explosive fuels... and... ;)

Ah let's derail this.:D
1. The duration let a lot to be desired but it was enough to get up and shoot at your bombers. That's what it was meant for and it could do it.
2. All jets suffered from flameouts back then and the Me 262 had two engines and could easily fly with only one left (if it didn't happen on final approach where the pilot hasn't had the speed or altitude to react...).
3. Aren't you confusing that with the Me 163?:O:
Climate engineering should not be taken lightly. I can see both cloud-ships
and chemical methods of climate control having the potential to back fire badly.
Yeah but who in Hades is gonna trust the Lolwaffles with jets?
:hmmm: :har: :yep:

While they are at it they can cover the hole in the Ozone layer with a giant Toupe.

I think you mean 20,000.
And this concept isn't as far fetched as many seem to think. Weather control is quite plausible, and has actually been done before. See the Chinese 2008 Olympics rain dispersal rockets incident.
