M.E.P.-v2 (Manos Environment Pro) is coming...(not ..soon!) with new colors darker and deeper(more close to reality) and the polygon effect ALMOST tottaly eliminated !(nothing is finished yet but you can get an idea from the pics). almost all maps are changed ,all colors ,sun's reflections and a new sunhalo(not finished yet)
(the only things that i will 'keep' from M.E.P.-v1.1 are the waves, the Venarote's moon and the colors at sky)
the following pictures are direct from in-game :

Ah, I was wondering what happened to this :DL

Excellent looks, I love the much darker water, I understand that earlier versions and also work by other people had to revert to clearer colours to help hiding bad polygons, but the look of the sea suffered a lot IMHO. A darker blue is the appropiate and this looks superb

Your frame rates shown in the first shots make me sick.:O:
I get in the 60's and I'm pretty happy. I can't imagine the mid 100's. It must be smooth as silk.

Hello Hitman,

Thank you

yes ,the main target of M.E.P (S) is always the fight with these polygons .but the great thing with M.E.P v2 is that they are ALMOST TOTALLY eliminated (at the moment,i am having 'problems' with them only at sunset -sunrise ...working on this now)with these colours you see in the previous post .
here is one more pic:

At the following pic the polygons have showed up ! can you see them ?? (its hard to see them but they are there. But,for sure, they are not annoying anymore ):

Excellent! I specially love the last picture, the number of small waves and overall look of the surface is fantastic. One aspect many water mods have overlooked IMHO is the size and speed of waves: Too large waves -specially with little wind- and moving too fast when the wind is strong. In fact, when the wind is strong the waves actually seem to move slower than when it is moderate. The reason is that the higher & bigger the wave, the slower its relative motion (Even if the absolute speed of travel is higher, but that depends on the wave frequency, not on the wind). I have always set in the environment files I use slower speeds for rougher seas, and it gives IMO a much more realistic result :yep:

oh yes, i totally agree with you Hitman ,in fact ,you are in my mind !In M.E.P v1.1 i had already increased the number of the waves when the wind was low and as the wind getting stronger the number of waves was decreased.
now the new addition:in M.E.P v2 i have already slower the waves (only at the situation with strong wind 12-15 m/sec)and also reduced their height !that is done for three reasons
1. first is exactly becuase ,as you correctly said, is more realistic(about the speed of waves)
2. the sh3's engine can NOT handle the ship's physics when waves are too big (i know that we all love big waves and even bigger BUT...simply is not possible ! )
3. this is the more important reason for me.as i am fan of manual targeting (the 80% of the game's pleasure for me is exactly the manual targeting),i want the game to be a little playable at rough seas(just ...a little) and ,as we know the problem with weather changes, the game oftenly ends up at 15 m/sec
thank you for your comments Hitman

Hello SeaWolf, your pic is very interesting ...i currently work on this part...the environment's colors facing the sun during the sunset-sunrise. the main problem is not the colors itselfs but the polygons effect ! it is easy to make fantastic colors but at this situation (sunset-sunrise) the polygon effect, when is showing up, is ruining the environment ! if you pay attention to this ...then i like your pic !
keep up !

Yes the distortion surrounds the set area as you see I have nearly removed all the
Polygon effect in this version but it is only a 8Km version
Can I suggest something to you as you are working on the 16Km version it would not
Be a good idea to use the scene DAT file from Thomsen water as a base file because
It can cause problems for some reason I.e. black sky wrong colours shown on the sea.
Also it has strong Polygon effects beyond the 8Km area showing to the 16Km.
OLC 16Km DAT file has a good start point to work on the problem :salute:

Seawolf, the ''polygon effect'' has nothing to do with this that you descibe !
for some reason that noone have discover yet ...the sh3's engine is screwing the light's reflections on the water and the result is that the light's reflections appearing on water with squares!
M.E.P v2 is based on M.E.P v1.1 which was based on OLCE2

Great work makman, really looking forward to this one. Any idea how far off the final is shipmate ?

This is looking even better with each screenshot :yeah:

Aside from the 20k version, I would beg to add the latest OLC horizon fix, which allowed to see proper "Hull down" effect, making the ships be noticeably behind the horizon when at >8km

This is done with an Earthradius of 800000 and reducing patches to 50 in scene.dat IIRC :salute:, though specific camera settings are needed to be able to fully apreciate the effect.

Oh, and one more thing: I have since long tweaked any scene.dat file I have used to have much lower waves with wind=15. Since the wind has a tendency to get stuck up in 15, this helps a lot being able to actually target and attack even in persistent storms.

I haven't yet seen the Olc's work that you describe above Hitman but it seemed realLy good idea when he announced it. why you don't send the files to OLC for fixing them ? [when i finished with M.E.P v2 will look at it(really no time at all for this right now) and if i like it ---for me was not any problem with horizon at M.E.P v1.1-olce2---i will ask permissions from OLC to incude it in M.E.P v2]

Oh, and one more thing: I have since long tweaked any scene.dat file I have used to have much lower waves with wind=15. Since the wind has a tendency to get stuck up in 15, this helps a lot being able to actually target and attack even in persistent storms.yes, i tottaly agree with you but i remember when you was asking how to do it.it was me that replied to you and i gave you a quick 'fix' to be 'suit' for you . in fact , i told you then to copy the wind8m/sec's waves inside the wind15m/sec's waves situation.this was something 'quick' but if you did that (meaning that you didn't proceed to your own further tweaks) you will end up to have the same waves from 8-15 m/sec

here are some more pics of clear sky-sunset-sunrise (wind 15m/sec)

Oh, than looks superb. Please if I can make a suggestion, note that the sea during storms is normally very dark blue (Like ink) and not grey as in the game is usual. That colour scheme in your mod would be fantastic :yeah:

Look here for reference: http://www.titulosnauticos.net/meteorologia/index.htm?beaufort.htm

It is interesting that the maximum wind in the game, 15 m/s is by far not the strongest you can experience in the real world. A 15 m/s wind is in fact just a strong sea, (Wind state 7 in the table I linked)

Also, take a look at the Douglas table with pics in this link here: http://www.mallorcaweb.net/kayak/indexcas.htm
