Here we go, the 28-week marathon to the Super Bowl is on. Tomorrow starts 21 days of camps with the first preseason game on Aug 9.

Who are you pulling for?
Who do you think will make it to the playoffs?
Wil the Steelers repeat?
With the Cowboys fly w/o TO?
Will the Ray-duhs escape from the cellar?
What will happen to the Broncos, now that they have lost their star QB and Hall of Fame coach?
Will Brett "Look at me!" Favre play for the Vikings?
Will the Texans make the playoffs?
Do the Bears know what to do with a real QB?
And what about Michael Vick?

All the questions and more. Football begins now!

Ravens for me.

Currently many holes to fill. However, core team is there.

Steelers suck. Hope they crash and burn.

Farve is done....again...I think...

T/O stinks just like the Cowboys. :O:

I look to the Falcons to make some good noise this year. :03:

Alrighty, here we go:

I'm a Packers fan, through and through. I'm also a Brett Favre fan. Just because he's being an idiot now doesn't mean that people from up here should forget that him along with Reggie White revived a floundering franchise. Also, Packers' GM Ted Thompson was an idiot regarding Favre, so I can understand him wanting to stick it to the man, so to speak.

That being said, I'm all for Brett playing with the Vikings. I don't think he's as good as he used to be. Granted, Tavaris Jackson isn't much to write home about, but youth and general athleticism counts for something. Favre has never missed a start in his career - at his age it's hard to imagine that lasting, especially on Minnesota's speedy turf, where defenders will be getting to the quarterback faster than he's used to. To compound that, Favre doesn't have much speed, and his agility is down. I can only see that as a good thing for other NFC North contenders.

One other thing, the Steelers will not repeat I don't think. I believe this season will end with a hungry Patriots team back on top. Belichick is just too damned good a coach, and Brady is too damned good a QB. Plus, Big Ben is mired in controversy I don't think is going to die down as fast as he'd like.

Go Raiders! Mind you can't see them doing much again this year:cry:

Since firing GM Carl Peterson, Head Coach Herm Edwards, and finding a veteran quarterback, I believe the Chiefs might be turning some heads this year.

Under new GM Pioli, players will have to work to play, not play to work. Johnson has a lot to make up for his season (so-called season anyways) last year, and needs to show he can still be an offensive threat.

Go Chiefs!

http://www.dailycomedy.com/images/jokes/b/KansasCityChiefs.jpgOddly enough, I think you might be right about KC. Not feeling playoffs and not sure how good Cassel really is (I mean really, what's his supporting cast is KC like compared to NE???), but I see more than 2 wins for the Chiefs this year, especially in a division with only one real contender (Chargers - that's right, I said it, the Broncos will be CRAP this year).

Prediction: 6-10

Dwayne Bowe, I believe in his third season has grown up quite a bit. The one person I'll truly miss is old Tony Gonzalez. But you're right, besides Bowe we have no weapons on our flanks. Cassel will definately have to play his best every game and lay the ball right into the recievers hands :yeah:

Who are you pulling for?
New England

Who do you think will make it to the playoffs?
Not the Cowboys

Will the Steelers repeat?
Will be a good team that beats them but i don't believe they will make it back to the big one.

With the Cowboys fly w/o TO?
No they still have Romo he will choke in the New Year as normal.

Will the Ray-duhs escape from the cellar?
With Al Davies still pulling the strings. No chance.

What will happen to the Broncos, now that they have lost their star QB and Hall of Fame coach?
Depends on whether McDaniels can win over the locker room. Which looks remote.

Will Brett "Look at me!" Favre play for the Vikings?
Most likely but why? Give youth a chance.

Will the Texans make the playoffs?
Nope

Do the Bears know what to do with a real QB?
Yeah cause they do they used to have big Rex.:haha:
I bet Devon Hester is happy that they finally have someone that can throw the ball. Should be a interesting. What with Forte in the back field the Bears have a offence.

And what about Michael Vick?
Time will tell.

Come February this is what im hoping to see.

A tale of Two Cities...

First, of all....let me introduce you the winners of the NFC 'Worst' with an 8-8 record:

http://www.sportslogos.net/images/logos/7/179/full/1000.gif

It's no longer a rebuilding year, it's playoff bound, however, realism says that as the lowest ranked they'll be playing their first and only post season game in 3Com, and when the wildcard Eagles come to town, it's all over. I will however say I am so happy to see TO playing for the 5 times "WTF Happened on Superbowl Sunday" Bills.:rotfl:

The other city, SD....please.
They will be lucky to make it to the playoffs without help. It's a toss up between which of the two is the worst, the Padres or the Chargers. At least the Chargers haven't traded LT away...yet.

Vi-queens

Who do you think will make it to the playoffs?
Steelers, Pats, vikes (if the qb shows up and childres doesn't make passive calls), Giants

Wil the Steelers repeat?
No, the pain killers will catch up with big Ben.

With the Cowboys fly w/o TO?
Who cares, hopefully they will totally implode. next question

Will the Ray-duhs escape from the cellar?
No, Neal will be shaving his head again.:O:

What will happen to the Broncos, now that they have lost their star QB and Hall of Fame coach?

Golf season starts early for these guys.

Will Brett "Look at me!" Favre play for the Vikings?
Fav-ray will look great in a raidrz jersey:har:

Will the Texans make the playoffs?
That would be cool.

Do the Bears know what to do with a real QB?
Shoot music videos:woot:

And what about Michael Vick?
Last year prime time suggested vick would make a great fit in MN:haha::doh:. Seems like that would be too much of a circus, oh wait it's the vikes:dead:.

The Panthers are who I pull for - as a Carolinian how can I do less?
Though our recent D-line injury leaves a gaping hole right where we had NO depth. Go figure. At least its early enough for us to pick off a salary cap casualty as the camps and preseason continue. Though what we will pay em with remains to be seen.

However - it is a D-lineman..... wonder if we can just get a player for all the concessions he can eat on gameday? :rotfl:

Our record depends on how many times our crappy qb forgets what color his team wears again - or if he is injured (though I would never wish a serious injury on anyone - season ending but fully able to be recovered from isn't beyond my dreams) - or if he just finally admits he is color blind.

Matt Moore is the future - and the future should start now.

Ok - enough with the Panthers rant.

Playoff teams - I see much of the same from last year - though I honestly expect cleveland to show better. Detroit will win 3.

Denver - they are going to struggle - if they get 6 in the win column I will be suprised. The locker room just isn't buying what the head coach is selling, and its not like they have a threat at QB now.....

The Steelers will not repeat. Some guy with either the last name of Brady or Manning will make sure of that.

Speaking of Brady - he will NOT be the same guy as he used to be - but he will have a solid year and use that to rebound further next season.

The Colts are going to struggle defensively more than usual. Dungy was the head coach and also did alot with the defensive side of the ball. Offensively they will be a threat as long as Manning has his free hand - and with the OC moving to HC - he will continue that. However, expect them to early out in the playoffs.

Jacksonville - Del Rio is on the hot seat this year - the defense will return to form, but I still see the offensive having its struggles.

Tennessee - Watch for the running back duo to show much less than they did last year - they have very one good running back and a fat guy with a big mouth who had some luck last year. The O-line will be harder pressed to protect Collins this year (assuming he starts) - and the D lost their biggest run stopper. Expect them to have more struggles than last year.

Giants - Coughlin will have the G-men ready - expect em to play tough almost all year. Their season depends on Eli continuing to show the maturity he has the last couple of years.

Jets - Rebuilding with a new HC, QB and a fair amount of other turnover.

Raiders - Al Davis is still alive - right? If any team takes a flyer on Vick - it will be Al. He is all about the "athletics", and dementia often shoots itself in the foot. If Vick does go here - then expect him back in jail and permanently banned from the NFL within 2 years. The club doesn't have the front office to keep him straight. I honestly hope if he gets an offer he has the mindset to turn it down - for his own sake.

If ya'll want - we should all post the divisions as we see em finishing. Be interesting to see who gets closest.

Why? Vick can't even play until the end of October. He's a non-factor on day one.

Of course, that being said, I am certain that Vick is only here for trade leverage. McNabb will be QB, as the organization is paying a fortune for him, and we are strong, for once, at the WR position. I really don't think that Vick's going to have much to do in Philly. He'll probably end up filling a specialist role, a la Brian Mitchell a few years back. Expect him to be traded next year, and probably for either some A-list new players or some of the draft selections that the Eagles sorely need.

Really, the story is that Joe Banner picked up a top-flight QB on the cheap.

Will the Ray-duhs escape from the cellar?

I hope so, if for no other reason than they've been trying for so long :haha:

What will happen to the Broncos, now that they have lost their star QB and Hall of Fame coach?

Perhaps they might actually do quite well :O:

Will Brett "Look at me!" Favre play for the Vikings?

Well we already know he is. Will he make a difference? Probably not.

Probably, but their running game might play a part

Not to give Favvvvvvvvvvray any praise, but it's the little things that he can do ( because of being around forever ) that Jackson can't. Staring off defenders, patience in the pocket, etc. Those little intricacies matter a whole bunch come the regular season.

The big question will be, can his body hold up for the duration of the season. Yeah he had the arm surgery, but....

One thing that we have not seen a whole lot have been deep passes. He will need to do this in order to stretch the defense which really benefits Peterson. If he does not it will really limit what they can do, even with the big man on the ground.

If he does not it will really limit what they can do, even with the big man on the ground.I don't disagree with you, totally. But I can't get over the fact that he just hasn't looked all that sharp so far. His good plays have been more system than Brett. Plus, I'm not going to lie ... that crackback block really pissed me off. You can end a guy's career with that.

Yeah, I know its just preseason but I can't imagine he's going to be getting any better and I can't help but notice that the playcalling has been really kind to him. Plus it was the Texans.

It's not that I'm anti-Favre ... not at all. For all this, I still love the guy. But, I AM anti-(insert divisional-rival quarterback here).

And it's nice to meet a Packers fan from Canada (I just KNEW that Canadians were good for something other than hockey! :haha:).

Good News for the Panthers - they signed a DT that has some potential. Hayden was looking HORRIBLE. I have seen 300lb blocking sleds get more penetration that he was. There were a number of plays in the games where he was literally picked up and THROWN back because he stays high and lets OL's under his pads.

Now, if Lewis and this fella Leonard can take up some space in the middle, the DE's can get some pressure and the LB's can attack the ball. We might be able to pull a decent defence, though every guy out there has looked like they need some basic tackling work.

We are now on the third DC since Fox took the HC job. We continue to run soft cover 2 schemes - because regardless of the DC, Fox controls the defense.

For the Panthers to reach their potential, they need 2 more things that they lack. A decent QB (Matt Moore - our 3rd stringer - has outplayed both Jake Delhomme and Josh McCown this preseason) and a defence that doesn't live by "bend but don't break".

Kapitan Phillips - We may disagree on a lot - but if you do what you threatened, let me know in advance cuz I will be more than willing to help.

Fox needs to let his Coordinators do their jobs for once. That and get a QB....

Prediction X: The six best teams this season will be New England, Pittsburgh, San Diego, Green Bay, the Giants ... and New Orleans. (That's right, New Orleans. You heard me.) The other six playoff teams will be Indianapolis, Seattle, Chicago, Baltimore, Denver and Washington. In the Super Bowl, Green Bay will defeat Pittsburgh to cap off the first Eff You season devoted to a specific player. That player would be you, Brett Favre.

Team officials told CBS Sports they did not want Gannon to attend Saturday's television production meetings in advance of Sunday's Raiders-Broncos game, The Chronicle has learned, citing his public criticism of the organization in recent years.

"Rich Gannon is not welcome here," Raiders executive John Herrera said Friday when asked about the ban. "We told CBS we did not want him in our building, we did not want him to be part of our production meeting, and that's where it sits."

The Raiders also asked CBS to remove Gannon from Sunday's broadcast crew but the network declined. The team had previously asked CBS to remove Gannon from working their Nov. 30 game against the Chiefs last season to no avail.

The game at Lambeau will be interesting. Given what I said above, plus the turnovers, the Pack still only lost by 7.

They shut Peterson down for the most part. Getting Chad Clifton back will also help, as will home field advantage.

The fickleness of the media continues ( not that it is surprising ) with regards to Favvvray. His start last year was quite similar, look what happened. Where will they, or much more importantly Favre be in week 13? If Brent is where he is now, then hats off to him :yep:

And we did it without a QB or wide receivers!

And I will be calling DirecTV Mon and giving them a brutal cussing, the &^#$%#*&^ broadcast ceased at the 2 minute warning :damn::damn::damn:

I suspect San Diego will have a new coach next year. I also expect that coach to be:

John Fox

Yes, thats right. He has ties to the area, and he is VERY likely to be let go at the end of this season (and I won't be unhappy about that).

I really don't think highly of Turner as a coach. He took a team that was GREAT under Marty S, and has made them into merely an average team.

Fox needs a change of scenery, and the Panthers need someone new to invigorate them. I suspect Cowher will be our HC, but Jerry Jones and his Brinks truck at Cowher's back door may have something to say about that. If its not Cowher, I want Shanahan (also in the mix in Dallas), Marty S, Jack Del Rio (a former Panther DC and in the hotseat in Jacksonville) or pipe dream Mike Singletary. I also wouldn't mind Gruden, though I don't think he will stay in the NFC South if he returns to coaching this year.

Cable's time in Oakland is ticking down, and while Al will throw out the money, I don't see a highly rated coach going there. Sorry Neal, but can you see Shanahan or Cowher dealing with marching orders from Al? Shanahan will want some front office control, and Cowher would likely walk to the skybox and thrust his chin into Al's face before responding with his own version of "I call the shots on the field!".

The eagles had a REALLY bad game. How did they lose? They underestimated the opponent. It happens. Jets did the same thing with the Bills. Of course, the clock mismanagement by Reid didn't help. If you want just tell the Eagles front office folks to trade us McNabb for Peppers and Delhomme and then come back and tell me what you think of the Eagles. You guys had an off game, relax.

Jeff Fisher in Tennessee went from 0-5 and perfectly comfortable, to 0-6 and people being stunned at what the owner said regarding a change. Still, winning is a wonderous cure in the NFL for most, so if hey can pull out a few victories, expect that talk to die down. Still, if he can't get to 7-9, he will be talking to other teams early this offseason. He won't go jobless for long though.

Onkel Neal
10-22-09, 08:46 AM
Shanahan was already coach at Oakland once, Al would never bring him back. The only hope for the Raiders is that Cable and his staff will quietly defy Davis (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/ann_killion/10/20/raiders/index.html?bcnn=yes#), happen to wins some games, and finally the old man will understand it's not 1967 anymore :arrgh!:

Cable is not blatantly subversive or defiant, like his predecessor Lane Kiffin. But -- in the context of Raiders culture, where Davis rules as dictator -- Cable is trying to find his own way. And we're not just referring to the matter of allegedly beating up Hanson, Davis' handpicked assistant and a diehard Raiders loyalist, whose actions a year ago helped to undermine Kiffin.
On Sunday, the Raiders brought a different look to the Eagles game on defense. They blitzed and played zone -- a departure from the defensive scheme Davis prefers. It was something of a revolution, according to cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha. Asomugha said he lobbies every week for a more aggressive attack and less predictable coverage, but usually to no avail.

Lol, we watched the game, it was great. They actually spotted the silver and black pidgeon a few plays earlier, he was right in the middle of a few plays and the game analyst circled him on the screen and said, "What's this? A pidgeon, and he's not bothered at all by the game." I wish I could find Youtube of that footage.

Goodell said there will be 2 games in London next year which is great news. I wish the British commentators would stop pestering him about a possible London expansion team. As much as I dearly love the idea, it just wouldn't work. They would need to cross the Atlantic every other week and my fears are the team would become like the Monarchs were...well supported at 1st but virtually empty stadiums towards the end.
Nice idea on paper, but just leave it as it is.

I seem to recall reading...but I can't put my finger on it now, that the expansion teams would NOT cross every other week. They would play 2 at home, then 2 away, and sty in the US between the two games.

London's only 8(?) hours from NYC, same flight time as SF to the east coast. Maybe Goddell will give them all east coast teams to play.

Yeah, it could work, but I think Rich is right, if they installed a team in London, the novelty would soon wear off. The World Football League died that way.

American football is kinda interesting to some Brits, but they grew up on soccer, so I don't see them having a major shift. Ya like what ya know. Same with us.

At this point, Russell is looking like a total bust. He's been playing nearly two full seasons now, and even though the team around him is mediocre, he is just flat terrible. From his awful pocket presence, his accuracy is off, and he is not a leader in any fashion. Not to mention really fat now--I saw a clip of him with his shirt off--double rolls of fat on his sides. He's a pro ball player, fer chrissakes :damn: Man, JaMeatloaf is built like a D-lineman, not a QB.

Plus, I am so tired of seeing him with his mouth open like a fish. Dude has no style. :dead:

I honestly can't see any more expanision teams being accepted into the NFL, unless there are quite a few of them. It wasn't that long ago that the NFL changed to it's current format.
Staying with the current format let's suppose a current team being banded about as being a possibility for a move, changes location to London. There's a few teams being talked about like this but the favourites to move are the Buffalo Bills.
Now on paper, it doesn't look like a bad move, an AFC East team plays 6 games against east coast teams. But that still leaves 10 games to be played and even with the 2 games at home, 2 games away it's still a hell of a lot of travelling...especially they have to play a west coast team.
However with all this said and all the problems it may cause, there is a team which does this week in and week out. In college football Hawaii Warriors plays against teams on the mainland so perhaps it could work. However, I'd still be worried about attendances 5 years down the line.

It was darn close, that's for sure. I think the refs made the right call. And I applaud Belichick for having the guts to go for it. I don't see that as an automatic bad call. The Pats can get that 2 yards usually 70% of the time. My only criticism is that they tried to pick up 2, exactly 2. The receiver (Faulk) should have been 3 yards further downfield.

I don't think the 'Aints are for real. Look at who they've beaten this year...teh Rams, the Bucs, Lions, Buffalo. Not a lot of challenges so far. The game vs the Pats will be a fun one, but I think the undefeated streak is coming to an end.

How does this sound?

Winner: San Diego Chargers

Sounds like you're on crack.

Not even the Chargers themselves think they can get into the Post Season. Last night they spent whooping it up to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the franchise...several of the boys were seen consuming copious quantities of amber liquid.

Then today, snow has hit SD, the Chargers might be playing tomorrow in weather more akin to Candelstick Park
