View Full Version : Altering ship sinking times.

Ok, in mostly stock i'm sick to death of ships just blowing up and going under in a few secons. i've got "realistic sinking times" applied but thats utter bull.
i can stick 10 deck gun rounds in a ship and watch it blow up or 3 eels and again same thing.
i don't mind the odd back breaker but its pretty silly for me to be wasting each ship so quickly.
are there any existing mods that map say real flooding on a boat or at least simulate it? if i stick 1 torp in a coastal merchant bang in the middle i expect her to start taking on water and sink within anything from 10-50 minutes right? but no they either blow up as they're out of "hit points" or she just slips under real quick.
i know i've seen some mods in the past but i'll be damned if i can dig em up?
thanks in advance for any help!

To adjust this there is no simple way.

The only way to accomplish it in a stock game is to redesign the damage models and zone for all vessels. That will effect the mechanics of ships sinking, their various damage zones and how they react to being damaged in certain areas. Not an easy task.

Alternatively, a simpler solution would be to reduce the hit points/damage points that each weapon in the Uboat arsenal. For example each torpedo has a damage rating measure in points, say for example 500, reducing this to 250 will half the damage caused whenever it detonates. The same is true for deck gun shells.

S3Editor is your friend for this.

If this is too much work for you to undertake, all available supermods have corrected the short comings of the stock game where ship mechanics are concerned.

hmm, any tips on what files alter the mechanics? perhaps i could lift this out of a supermod or even have a laugh modding it myself ;)

Why not just install the supermod?

Stock SH3 was a good idea, but was basically unfinished when it was released.
It contained many bugs, and even more errors, like the one you are experiencing.
GWX3 takes the same game and theatre (Germany versus England) and transforms it into a vastly superior game to stock.
I held off installing GWX for ages, because i thought it was American/Japanese, but that's SH4.
If you install GWX3, you'll never want to go back to stock.
Full stop.

i am planning on running GWX soon myself, i did run it for a while in the past but i'm just messing around with the stock game and a load of mods atm.
its just more about me getting used to modding and interactions etc :yeah:

Altering zones and spheres is a tricky business, as i've been finding out recently myself.
There are no known 3D zone applications on general release, as yet.
Therefore to build a picture of where the zones and spheres are, means drawing boxes and spheres within a model, on a piece of paper, according to their co-ordinates in the .zon file, which can be opened, as Danilisa said, with skywaj's S3D editor.
Then you have to find out what those zones control, and how their alteration affects the reaction of the ship to damage.
There's no guide for that, it's trial and error.
Further down the SH3 mods workshop page is a thread entitled " Are there any free modelling applications"
You might find it useful. :)

Well i do experience thesame but if you brake the keel then it's likely possible that the ship CAN go down very fast but i hit with impact on the hull so :hmmm:

what about reducing the flooding times in zones.cfg? i did it for my private use only
