View Full Version : [HELP] Carotio camera Out of Sectors

Everytime I click on the Helmsman I get "Camera out of Sectors". I downloaded "Silent Editor" and I compared the camera.dat to the original and for the life of me can not figure out where to edit. I did edit helmsman's dummy node. But that did not do anything.

So, where do I go to fix this or where can I down load a fixed verision.
I like roaming around the ship, there is a lot of "Eye Candy" that is missed with out this option.

"Awesome mod by the way, except for this error" If no one has downloaded they should. If someone replies with the fix, I will fix it and still give carotio FULL credit. I just don't want the error anymore.

The only thing I can think of to fix this is to make the camera's clip sector bigger in the interior's .dat file. That's usually what the problem is.

I just did a search for interior.dat and could not find it. Do you know the name or where it is located? I am willing to try this.

It's not interior.dat its the .dat file of the sub you are using. Most subs use the Gato interior so it would be NSS_Gato_CR.dat or NSS_Gato_CT.dat. Both of those have camera clip sectors. The CT is the conning tower and the CR is the regular interior.

The files are located under your silent hunter directory in the data/interior folder.

I to use the Carotio camera mod, but because I usually use my own subs I don't get a camera out of sectors error.

OK I am in the file, S3editor however, I don't see anything named clip.

Would you mind throwing me one more bone, ruff.... I see common and I see tga, I am not sure on what I am looking for outside of the workd "Clip"

Sorry bout that, I keep thinking everyone here knows the ins and outs of how to mod Silent hunter. But that's not always true.

Once you're in the file click on the first node, should be Druck_LM1. Then you'll find all the roll outs for Node positioning and such. There's one called interior camera clip sector. That's the one you need to edit to make the camera sector larger. Remember the Y and Z axis are flipped so Y is up and down and Z is forwards and backwards. You should only need to adjust the maximum that way you can see more. If that doesn't fix the problem it could be a game glitch.

Thanks for the reply. I will give that a whirl. However, it is not a game glitch. Because if I replace the camera.dat file with the original, everything is fine. But when I use carotio's I have the problem has was stated above.

I may have figured it out with the camera.dat I am editing it a little, did not get the exact result I wanted but I did not get the error either. When I clicked on the helmsman, I ended up outside the sub.

No problem, looks like that could be a step in the right direction. The fix lies somewhere in editing one of those files. :DL

OK, I fixed the camera.dat file and it rocks so far. The last thing I want to do is limit the depth of movement. The celing maxhight they had was 10000, I droped that down to 0 for this and it works great you can still rotate the mouse and move the mouse up and down but your not going out side the sub in the upwards movement.

Problem, how do I fix this for the downward movement???

I was looking for something like maxdepth or equilavent but can't find it. Any ideas on what it maybe called? I figure if I set this at 0 it would stop the movement of the camera from going out the bottom. Once done and tested I will post this mod.

Hmm, the only thing I can think of for downward movement would be a minimum height. I don't see any equivalent value either so I'm not sure.

OK, question cause I have an idea.

In the main area where the officer is standing in the main room. There is a guy standing in front of him , at a big wheel. If I click on him I roate up down and around but can not move. In the camera.dat file what is the name of that guy or position. If I could give the same attributes to the Helmsman. I think I will be done with this. By the way if it was not for your suggestions SeaWolf it would have taken me longer to get this far. SO once done this will be your's and mine mod and I will include your name on it.

I believe that is the navigator, there is a set parameter for him in the cameras.dat file.

Oh and it's Silverwolf, not Seawolf. :up:

Sorry about that SilverWolf. There must be something else. I made the Helmsman identical to the navigaor but it will not lock me into that position.

It will place me where he is located but I am still able to move around. Unlike the navigator where I am stuck in the position until I click out.

Hmm in your Helmsman section of the cameras.dat file is free mode set to false? Maybe that would do the trick? If not you could always enable it and see if for some reason the camera does lock.

Yea I did that already, I am about to call it quits for right now, go to go to bed, I have to get up early for work. I am in AZ I plan on being on around 6pm tomorrow night. I will try to catch you on this post again. Thanks for all your help.

It has been a while since last time, I "played" around with this file. It CAN make you really annoyed, when you cannot seem to find the reason for a certain behavior.
So I can't even remember: is it the fleet boat helmsman, uboat helmsman or both, which have this error?

RE1 contains the v1 of my camera btw, since RE1 was released, I have the v2 with 4 zoom levels for the attack periscope: most usefull. Not really sure if it's realistic, but it's quite handy.

I'll see if time will permit me to have a look at the helmsman problem again.

Damn, there you go again, always real life gets in the way... hehe :D

Thanks for replying. I don't have the UBOAT addition to SH4, just the patch update though. If I want to play UBOAT I play my SH3.

I am so close with this camera mod by the time I am done I think I will be an expert. I also am going to work on the travel distance with the cam inside the nav view, so you can't go outside the interior while in the cam view.

Thank you for starting this mod by the way. I am trying to improve it more. Little things like this make the game better, since there is extra eye candy that is missed by not being able to move about. like the desk against the wall.

1) Ahh... there is an issue. You only have v1.4 then. The cameras.dat file supplied with RE was the 1.5 file. Then I cannot guarentee what happens if used in a 1.4 version... For my sake, you're welcome to work something out. But seriously, why not just get the add on? It's not just the addition of uboats, but also improvements to the fleet boat side, and most mods are made for 1.5

2) I did not start it. If you open the file with S3D and look at the author info, you'll see two names. Besides mine there's Mav87th who did a lot of the changes for ROW/PE, so I kept his name there in his honour.
