I am hunting a convoy at the moment and i post quickly here.
I just had a big destroyer a a&b class anyway 1300 ton weight in 2 hits?! :arrgh!:
Ok the naval gun of my IXb is 120 mm or something but 2hits? :hmmm:

Is it made too powerful perhaps?

good god!
I shot one shot at a v&w class now and it was a hit and immediately it said she's going down?
Is it luck or something is wrong ?

You got a luck shot.
Be happy!
It does happen from time to time.
Now watch how many come in saying they have
never had such luck with the deck guns.

You must have incredible luck or some very unusual modifications.
Those are long odds indeed.

no mods at all ! :03:
I think it is the many hours shooting at the waterline that are finally paying off !
I once had to drill 40 shots with my VIIC in a v&w but one shot is really awesome :arrgh!:
that's a new record.
I thought 2 shots at an a&b are awesome but one at a v&w is the motherload i think :arrgh!:

Then you have gotten lucky and struck a critical location such as the ammunition bunker. (Also in real life, destroyers had virtually no hull armor.)
If it normally takes you many more rounds to sink a DD... then your argument that the deck gun is 'overpowered' doesn't make any sense to me.:06:
Unless your style of play is intended to be more 'relaxed', I don't understand why you engage DD's on the surface anyway.
If you are unhappy with something concerning the mod itself, maybe you should consider trying something else that suits you better.:03:

Blue Casket: Its just me or i think you rather should go and sink (or try to) some more of those DD
and see if really youre the deck gun big cheese or had a lucky shot, or both.:O:
I think you need more evidence to make conclusive any statement or odd behaviour regarding some excellent piece of machinery as those belonging to our most beloved U-boot :rotfl:
why dont give those DDs a few rounds a piece and tell us how the thing came up.
would be interesting

You can chase threads all day,
all week,
and years back.
Some say they're to weak,
others say to strong.
They are what they are.
Fix them,
find a mod you like,
or whatever.
It is after all?
How you play your Game that counts.
If the Gun don't fit?
You must acquit!

Wish i could do that @ 1 or 2 shots. Would save me wasting torpedoes.
Biggest problem i have with destroyers and deck guns, is being able to pump enough shots into them from 6000 metres before it gets close enough to ram me while i'm going at back emergency on standard propulsion.
And this in an IXB with a 105mm deckie.
I need a bigger gun

Well i did have lots of problems too bringing down those destroyers but actually its fairly easy!
However with the 105mm deck gun i gain better successes then with the 88.
here it goes as follows.
Give the engine room a hit or two that will cripple it's speed for sure.
below the waterline u need to fire.
Then u need to aim in the middle a few times and one in the bow.
my one shot and dead was between the engine and the and the middle.
I will try and test it again next patrol because now i'm out of ammo :arrgh!:
I love to take on those destroyers knowing that they will be a pain in the ass later in the war.

sorry for my misunderstanding kpt lehmann what i meant to say was:
With the 88 i once had to shoot 40 rounds and it still didn't sank because the ship was coming forward and only able to hit bow a little and blowing off the guns.
hitting the good spots takes them out fairly easy
if you hit it good in the engine room and in the middle you can dive it will sink mostly then.

No worries, Blue-Casket.
One thing that vonHelsching made sure that I understood during development, (vonHelsching was our chief damage modeller) is that in SH3 with respect to its limitations... and how those limitations relate to sinking ships... is that the damage model can either be optimized for realistic effect in relation to gunfire... or torpedo damage... but not both in a perfect way. As SH3 is a submarine simulation, we logically chose to optimize damage models for using the torpedo... with an eye to balance damage models with gunfire as best we could.
To view the methodology used by the GWX dev team, please read pages 77-78 of the GWX manual.

My patrol has ended now and i earned nice medals promotions en over 2000 renown.
over 2000 is my record.
I did sink more ships but it didn't count it in so i only had 70.000 ton.
But i know it would've been like almost a 100 000 then.
Oh well the british suffered heavy from this attack on their convoy to north africa :arrgh!:
I did manage to find a ocean liner in that area too!
a small one only 6000 tonnes in volume but finding one is rare to me.
I fired my 10 shots i had left on it and the speed of it was immediately gone.
I shot one on the engine and again in the mid as i said before that does the trick to be honest.
Then one torpedo and byebye
I love this game ! :)
I wouldn't alter with the game kpt lehmann i know u guys did it as good as possible so i wouldn't change any buttons to make the game easier.
It was just weird sinking ships with so few ammo lol.
Anyway i found their weak spots now! :arrgh!:
