View Full Version : Noisy 688??
I read acouple of random threads where a few differet ppl pointed out that the 688i was the noisiest playable sub in the game.
Is that a fact? Does this reflect reality? I would have thought it to be superior or at least on par with the Akulas.
What is the quietest...the Seawolf? the Kilo?

Stock DW (1.01+Hotfix and later) playable PSL's:
Seawolf: 63+(speed*10/40)
688I: 65+(speed*10/35)
Akula-I(imp): 65+(speed*10/33)
Vepr: 64+(speed*10/35)
Gepard: 65+(speed*10/35)
Kilo 877: 60+(speed*5/17)
Kilo 636: 55+(speed*5/20)
The Akula-I(imp) is louder than the 688I at all speeds >0 knots.
The Kilo 636 is the quietest at all speeds.
As for reality...here's some public source info:

Diesel subs when running in battery mode is very quiet indeed. In fact they should be made quieter than they are in stock.
In reinforce alert mod they are very very quiet when running on their battery. They however are not meant to travel the world's ocean and could only be used as a sort of mobile mine. They should be deployed at strategic chokepoints because they have very limited mobility.
Ah.....Im running RA, and that must be why My 688's keep getting toasted.

Trying to find a diesel electric thats running on batteries (and low speed) with passive sensors is a lost cause.
You have to use active sonar for hunting them out, or at least use a combined force approach, frigate+helo and/or p-3 together with 688's.
