Reduced Rank after a successful patrol in GWX -- please help.

I recently returned from a modestly successful GWX 3.0 patrol (54, 000 GRT) and was frustrated to see that I was "promoted" from Kapitanleutnant to Oberleutnant...aghhh! Has this happened to anyone else? And does anyone have a fix / work-around? I've already tried reloading to a few earlier in-mission game saves -- sadly to no avail. Please help -- It took me forever to get Kptlt. and I'd like to move up in rank instead of down.

actually that's a promotion, after Oberleutnant you get Korvetten Kaptain I think...but yeah Oberleutnant z. S. is a promotion =), your officers can also get this rank as well

Hi Easy Eight,

You were very likely demoted due to a stock SH3 game bug.

In SH3, your rank is dependant on maintaining a certain renown level.

For example, your renown level is "10,000" and your rank is "KptLt"... and the minimum renown to maintain your rank as KptLt is "9000".... if you spend 2000 renown points to buy a snorkel... you will be reduced in rank to ObLt because your new renown level is "8000."

(The above numbers are purely for example and are not actual for GWX.)

It sucks.

However, it is not related to the GWX mod... but the SH3 base game itself and is something we are stuck with... as alternatives were far less attractive to us during development.

The Renown system is such a hassle to deal with, I'm amazed nobody has ever released a mod that allows you to manually choose your own renown points so you can avoid loss in rank every time you want to upgrade your u-boat or get a new one. :hmmm:

So is there a set level somewhere? A chart, a graph, a scrap of paper? An old faded pdf that specs out the numbers for each rank level or is it random.

Just remember there is more than one basic.cfg in GWX. If you change one... you need to mirror it in the other. (Late War Sensors included optional mod.)

Many thanks, Kpt. Lehmann for your reply... and to everyone else for their input / suggestions. Got my hard-earned KptLt rank back.

Quantifying this renown-generated rank advancement (or reduction) will make me think twice before spending another 9,000 on a shiny, new U-boat (and leaving moths in my BdU bank account). On the flip-side, saving it will give me something to shoot for promotion-wise. Maybe someone should mod a renown "overdraft protection" system... because getting demoted (even temporarily) positively blows prop-mangled tuna chunks.
