You could do a lot worse than installing GWX3.0 http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/whistle.gif

I'd agree. GWX has the best balance between realism and eye-candy, with loads of new ships, planes, harbors, and too much else to list. Then there's the hundreds of add-on mods to choose from to help you customize your game to suit you tastes. This one is the fan favorite.:yeah:

For hard-core realism, many prefer NYGM with its focus on gameplay and historical accuracy, rather than dressing things up with high-res eye-candy. NYGM is the oldest of the actively maintained super-mods and many other mod groups have borrowed key features simply for the fact that you can't beat the perfection of the foundation the NYGM crew has laid.

WAC is the king of graphics and tries to make the world more alive by having ships that will sail into a harbor and dock instead of disappearing once a waypoint is reached. However, the fact that so many units are ever-present in the world and the high level of detail can tax even high-end computers. If your hardware can handle it, this is one super-mod I think everyone should at least try.

Living SH3 has been around for a long time but only recently surfaced here at Subsim. It's name defines the mod's focus on trying to simulate life and service aboard a u-boat in every way possible. The effects and graphics are top-notch and the single-player campaign is scripted to be very immersive as a simulation, such as sailing to certain ports for shakedown and certifying of new u-boat commands. The next planned release, v 5.0, is just around the corner and expected to be offered in the original German and a new English language version.

If you're looking for multiplayer action, I'd say GWX offers the best experience. Although all the super-mods focus on career-mode, the net result of GWX's mods provides a richer and more varied multiplayer gaming experience. Nordfront.org's 17th Flotille also has their own custom version of GWX tailored for multiplayer, called GWM. As a bonus, they also offer the VII-D minelayer and XXIII u-boats as playable units.

Personally, I'd recommend having multiple installations of SH3 so you can set up each of the super-mods if you have the hard drive space. It would require anywhere from 7-12 GB of drive space for each install. Then you can decide for yourself which super-mod you like best and delete the rest, if you prefer.

Good hunting! :salute:

WELCOME ABOARD!:sunny:

All the advice in the world won't begin to prepare you for the nightmare that is playing (or not playing) the SH3 mods game. There are so many great little additions that I spend all my time trying this or that add-on. I've still never completed a career, after four years of playing. "Ooh, that one looks cool!" "Just one more, that's all!" "I can quit anytime I want!":dead:

Question:

How can you install multiple SH3's on Windows XP?

I have a MacBook Pro 15", with Boot Camp and run Windows XP Professional. SH3 + GWX 3.0 + SH3 Commander ... all works smoothly.

I want to test and try LSH3, but when I insert the SH3 DVD I cannot install the game, I can remove (delete it), repair or modify it.

Thanks for any help! :yep:

Follow Jim's sig to the GWX downloads page. No donation required, and it's not FileFront.
