Another probably stupid question: Why would you want to play in a sailboat?
A 760lb boradside would be fun :)

Sure, but you would have to play without a damage model or else you would be blown to bits by destroyers. I see the fun in it, but not any long-term fun. Oh well.

imagine the look on the japs faces...when they see an old man-o-war show up to blow them out of the water...
hey! why not add 15 or so deckguns to a fleetboat? that would be interesting.

Shammer - like the way you are thinking...... if I get some spare time, I might just add the flying dutchman (playable) as an Easter Egg for the TSWSM ..... and I'll make sure it has plenty of cannon ;)

That would be nice
Stupid question but: Have your tried ship simulator and Age of Sail?
SH4 absolutely lacks the needed features to steer a sailing ship, so why do you want a sail ship there? :06:

Becouse all other games with sailing ships are crap, and becouse it`s cool.
This game is the most realistic ship simulator game I have ever heard of. Except Virtual Sailor

Karle94,
I've got to a few Man Of War or Ship Of Line warship, but what do you want to use them for? (i.e. a personal mod or a public mod)
HMS VICTORY
LA SIRENE SHIP OF LINE
LE GLORIEUX SHIP OF LINE
LE SOLEIL ROYAL SHIP OF LINE
LE SUPERBE SHIP OF LINE
USS CONSTITUTION
How do you make ship playable in the game SH4?

What kinda mod it is doesn`t matter.
The HMS Victory seems interesting.

yeah!!!! I want to try a full broadside on an oiler!!! or something really slow... most rustbuckets can (and will) outrun us...
and carronades on fishing boats/sampans
can anyone please try this????
and maybe scale it down for HMS Surprise (just love those Maturin Aubrey novels, all 20 of them!)

It does matter to me if I'm going to give you a model I've bought.
I hope you know how to get the model into the game, because I don't and also the HMS Victory model is a high poly model. :salute:

Actually I don`t know how to make ships, that`s why I made this request.
The mod is intended as a mublic mod. And a high polly ship should go fine with me.

Now how can you scale down a model of a 100 gun 1st Rate SOL into a 28 gun frigate?
You know, there are games with sailing ships in them. The best part is they have enemies you will be able to sink! If it was actually modeled to have round shot (as it should) then it will be bounching off almost eveything but Sampans. Armed trawlers would smoke you. This would be alot of work for something that could look very good, but not be fun for very long.

I know this thread has been dead for over two years, but I just had to show you guys what I have been working on when I am bored at school:

How very interesting. Of course she's moving kind of fast for having no sails raised. :o

I will add sails later. I am still doing testing on the ship it self. I gave her a very generous 15 knot top speed. This speed was possible for Old Ironsides, if the wind and current was strong enough. She has 56 3 inch guns that will rip merchants and destroyers a new one.

I was only joking of course; she looks very nice. Remember though that the top speed was dependent on the wind (something not possible in SH) and that she was only recorded at that speed once, with studding sails raised in the perfect wind. She was still faster than most ships of the age.
As for the guns, they only had an effective range of a couple hundred yards, which means any destroyer could sink her long before she got in range with her own guns.

As for the speed and range, I can only say this; not in this universe it`s not.
Here are some more pictures:
The crew of this destroyer laughed when they saw me sailing in. Thinking that my honor was humbled, I teared them a new one.

This tanker challenged me to a duel, my guns to their signal pistols. Long story short, I ripped them a new one.

This destroyer was in my way, so I shredded them a new one.
http://i777.photobucket.com/albums/yy51/Karle94/sh42011-09-1300-39-16-05.jpg
I was able to sink an Atlanta CLAA, an Omaha CL and many tugs and destroyers. I had the fortune of engaging my New Orleans, she sank but she wasn`t destroyed. I also attacked the Saratoga, but she wouldn`t budge. I boarded her and demanded that the captain surrender his sword. The captain laughed at me and I was then arrested and put in one of the navy`s mental institutes where I sat for the duration of the war.

:rotfl2: Very good!
Some more on the guns. Constitutions main guns were 24 pdr long guns, firing round shot 5.5" diameter (these could fire a mile or more, but were only accurate to about 100 yards, supplemented by 32pdr carronades 6" diameter, but with very short range ("pistol shot" was the common term, so about 50 yards).
Still I have to admit that trashing major warships with a sailing frigate does sound like fun.

Very nice. I need some sailing ships and steam/sail vessels for "Wolves of the Kaiser", since so many WWI merchant ships still used sails for propulsion. I'm planning to design them myself, but if you happen to build any cargo sailing vessels from the 19th Century I'd love to include them (with full credits to you of course). It's entirely up to you, obviously.

Karle, what scale do you use to assign hull armor to ships? For example, I saw that you assigned an 86 to your Montana class or Iowa class BB. How did you you figure that out?

I think you mean 96. It is the armor level on the stock Iowa.
