Hi,
Is it just me or does that the distance from the surface of the water seafloor in SH4, as viewed from the external camera, doesn't appear realistic given the depth of the sub?But then again, unless we are directing or watching a WWII movie, the external camera is not an essential element to operating the sub.
Captain Cox's seafloor mod, which reduces the size of the rocks, does help to enchance the underwater realism.
Sincerely,
Walter

I think it is just you. Stay in the sub and do not worry about it. J/K, I never really have taken a good look at it to be honest.

yep, you can be 1,000 feet deep and the external cam looks like your keel is at 150-200 feet at the most.
it does change some when you go deep but it always looks like your just below the surface

That is likely just because you forget how big the sub really is!
Remember that the guys standing on the bridge would be around 6 feet themselves. Imagine 100 of them standing on their heads and you have around 600 feet. 10 of them for 60 feet, etc.

It even happens in Type II's and Sugar Boats, so it is not the size of the sub. I figured it was them trying to add in the magnifying effects of looking through water, into SH4.

o.O What?
I don't see how having a smaller submarine would make much difference.
Essentially what I'm saying is that if you had a scale model of a car in SH4, and you put it down to, say, 100 feet, it would certainly -look- like it was 100 feet down.
I assume by 'the magnifying effects of water' you are referring to refraction? That only happens when light passes between materials of different densities. This might be the case if the submarine were really deep, and so the water was colder than above it, but that effect would disappear when the camera was in water of the same temperature.

Maybe I should stay in the sub more.

I think the subs look like they are deep when they are deep. Yuo should go visit a real WWII sub to give yourself some prospective they are a lot bigger than they seem. And based on seeing the real Mcoy Id say the game does a pretty good job. I flipped my kyak last week in a spring fed river and man it looked like about 1000ft was under me it was really about 70ft and this old fallen trees limbs down there it looked like it was bigger than my house thats because it was about 2 feet from my face cause I put my feet on it and it broke good thing I can swim or Id be with those fishies now asking them if they thought that SH4 subs looked right under water. Hey wait there are no fish in SH4! That is all for looks even in crystal clear water your just cant see with clarity very far.
