Hello community,
for my private use I've merged Waterstream & Exhaust Mods into one combi-mod. If there is interest, I could upload it on my filefront page. From the Readme:

This is a Combimod, consisting of the following Mods:
1. Rubinis "Water_Stream_for_Uboats_V4" (but without the contained .sim-Files, see below for details.)

Philip_Thomsen forgot to integrate them into his MOD.
Installation

This MOD is JSGME-compatible.

Known Problems:

* Due to a bug in the NSS_Uboat2D.val file, there was no bowspray for the Type IID.
Because I'm unable to fix that bug (which is already in the original mod),
I replaced NSS_Uboat2D.val with the file contained in the WaterstreamV4-Mod.
Result: Bowspray and Waterstream is okay, but no exhaust for Type IID.
*I had come crashes in conjunction with the "Blank_campaign"-Mod
Note:

I deleted the Submarines .sim-files from the WaterStream-Mod. The .sim files are not necessary for the Waterstream-effect, because they only contain little changes in the draught of the U-Boats. Reason for deleting the .sim files: The .sim-Files from the original Mod are based on old GWX 1 and have much too short ranges. For GWX2, the ranges have been drastically enlarged, but these changes have not yet been added to the Waterstream Mod.

@irish: no. that's the old one. I'll inform bts-mods in the next days about the update. first I must check, why the new file is corrupted. It worked for me. maybe an upload error....

I would like to ask you if you tested until today the IID, because for me (and not only with your mod, with the original from Racerboy too) the bowspray disappears.
I have of course exhaust smoke and waterstream but not bowspray. In fact I have not any spray, except from the tower, when deck awash or during dive, but this is an other .dat file inside Objects, right?
I found that long time ago but I was hesitating for posting. Why other people do not point on? And Racerboy didn't answer in my e-mail.

As a temporary "fix", I removed all IID files from the mod (Submarine\NSS_Uboat2D folder and all .tgas for IID). The waterspray is back, but obviously the the waterstreams and smoke is gone for that sub.
I tested it briefly and so far so good, but I wonder if removing those files could cause some problems or conflicts?
Sorry that I forgot to answer. The problem is, that I'm not the author of these mods, I only merged them to one combimod.
Currently I'm very busy, but in the next time I'll try to find the problem. Please be patient.

But I am afraid the problem is not the merge mod from Philip Thomsen but the original from Racerboy. Is just my opinion, I am novice in hex editing :oops:

Personally I would like play with the special IID with the 37mm gun, and full water stream and smokes, but, without bow stream. . . :x :shucks: :wah:

Yes, NGT, you seem to be right, if the error already occurs in Racerboys mod.
If I cannot fix the problem, I'll replace the bad file with the one from the Waterstream mod, so that bow-spray and Waterstream effects are okay and only Exhaust is missing for the IID. But perhaps I'll be able to fix it. The problem is, that I have to find out how to merge Waterstream and Exhaust effects in the .val file. Have not done that before.

I dont know if this is a known bug or if it just happens to me but, the game crashes if i use the Type VIIC, VIIC/41 or VIIC/42.
Type IIA/D, VIIB, XIB/C/C40/D2, XXI seem to be working.
And no, it cant be any other mod, as soon as i deactivate this on JSGME the VIIC models work again.
BTW Game wont crash on load, crashes only if i try an external camera.

Have you tried downloading it again?. I got that file from h.sie filefront page and its ok.

I've been using this mod along with Your hsGUI v3.0 and they are both great :up: I especially like the way You're dealing with periscopes (e.g. light transmission reduction in AP is great idea).
Yet, the time has come to try faboulus OLCG2 ;) unfortunately JSGME reports an error when trying to enable W&E Combi on top of OLCG2 option 4. I can't remember right now which file is conflicting (I think that there's only one).. maybe it was scene.dat or sth like this.
Is it possible to make W&E Combi and OLCG2 compatible ?

Ah, okay, then I guess it conflicts with the EnhancedDamageEffects-Part of OLCGold. Sorry, but I fear that I cannot make then compatible, because I have no experience with materials.dat.

as I understand this we should delete materials.dat from \library folder of W&E Combi and put there this WaterStream_material.dat, this way W&E Combi should become compatible with all mods that use materials.dat right ?

can this be tested in single missions only with different uboats ? starting campaign with every uboat would be pain for me because of rather slow PC ;)
I'm astonished. It really worked: I renamed materials.dat of the Combi-Mod to Waterstream_Materials.dat, enabled the mod together with OLCG+EDE. No file conflicts in JSGME and Waterstream & Exhaust Effects are still visible. Thanx rs77
This change will be contained in the next Update of the Combimod.
:DL I just quit SH3 to write a post.. my loading times are killing me, I was only able to check VIIB or C (not sure which boat is in Naval Academy) but waterstream and exhaust works :up: I'm not sure if it's ok with IIA - I haven't seen smoke in sinlge mission I started with it but it was a bit dark ;)

h.sie are you sure that this file should just be renamed ? I deleted the original materials.dat from W&E Combi and replaced it with WaterStream_material.dat from the link provided by Rubini
WaterStream_material.dat is very small file which contains only waterstream particle as Rubini wrote (so it doesn't mess up with contents of materials.dat from OLCG2, well I guess), he also pointed out that original material.dat should be NOT used

EDIT: I just tried IIA, it works for canoe too, it's harder to take the picture but both waterstream and smoke are present
oh, okay. now I understand. downloaded the small .dat file and will add and test it during the next days.

:up: I just did a little research because I really wanted to have W&E Combi with OLCG2, it's all Your work and the other guys who created those mods, and especially Rubini who knew how this should be done :salute:

I opened .val but I did not find the reason for the missing bowspry.
I compared files for 2D with and without exhaust with S3editor, well what is really obvious one is bigger and has chunks (or whatever I should call it ;) for exhaust.
But our problem was missing ship's wake so I concentrated on the ShipWake chunk, I discovered that Parent id for this chunk is different in NSS_Uboat2D.val files with and without exhaust :) there's no reason for this I think...
Then I compared 2D (with exhaust) to 2B (with exhaust) files, it came out that Parent id is the same!
so I took ShipWake Parent Id from 2D .val file without exhaust (here bowspray was working) and copied it to 2D .val file with exhaust
I think that someone who originally created this mod copied 2B .val file to 2D .val file and forgot to change Parent id for ship's wake

shoot, what you just wrote made me thinking of some other things...
2A, 2B, 2D .val files seem to be just the same file in W&E Combi V2.1, it looks like smoke was made for 2A and then it was just copied for 2B and 2D (only with different .tga files for smoke)
I just got original waterstream v4 mod and trying to compare all those .val files but it looks like 2A, 2B .val are the same but 2D .val file is different here
wonder if no harm was done to other uboats too..
I think that we should check this version for 2D first and later see if other boats are ok, because I'm not so sure right now
EDIT: corrected another thing for 2D - it's called VisualDamage and it also had Parent id copied from 2A/B

I think the only chance we have is to take the working .val file from the waterstream-mod and import the exhaust related chunks from the .val file of the exhaust mod. but that are numerous chunks and I have only little experience with S3D. and little time.

well, when you look at the meduza's picture in post #15 - there's no bowspray, no ship's wake and no exhaust :)
now we have ship's wake and exhaust - only bowspray is missing
no, waterstream + exhaust worked already. only bowspray didn't work in v2.1. check it out by yourself.
i don't give up. currently trying to export/import the exhaust data using a hex-editor.

I'm completely new to this Silent 3ditor too, but in case you don't have time to do it from the beginning...
here is what I did - I changed ALL Id's and Parent Id's in NSS_Uboat2D.val, so now it's exactly the same as original waterstream mod + now it has exhaust (the idea is the same as yours I just did this another way)

this evening I'll test your new file. If it does not work well, I'll start to edit the waterstream .val file as I descibed above. Started yesterday. It was no problem to transfer all the smoke-images using a hex-editor, because all images allocate an unfragmented memory range in the file. unfortunately the other exhaust-controllers are fragmented (not in a contiuous memory range) so I have to transfer one chunk after each other manually using S3D.
I want to use the working original waterstream .val file as the basis, because so I can be sure all other things (damages, wakes) work well. The exhaust .val-file might have more errors than the missing bowspray, so I only extract the exhaust related data from it.
I also tested the single exhaust mods. they also have no bowspray.

as for single exhaust, I didn't use Racerboy's single exhaust .val files, I looked how he did this, then I modified current .val files from W+E Combi for IIA/B/D (deleted chunks responsible for one of the exhaust from them)
I also used my 'corrected' IID .val file for this, so if it works for dual exhaust then it should work for single too (I mean with bowspray and other things)
can't wait till the evening tests :D

I feel like I should add a few comments here:
- my only work here was fixing the NSS_Uboat2D.val file included in this combi mod, no new things are created from me, I just followed the original files and compared them to working ones, then slightly modify file for IID
- replacing materials.dat with separate file for waterstream particles is Rubini's idea and I just found it on the subsim, link to appropriate thread is posted earlier in this thread
- single exhaust idea is Racerboy's, .val files for this addon are created by just following his files as an example, as for historical accuracy of single exhaust for Type II - again it's Racerboy's idea (please see one of his readme's at bts-mods.com for details)
- I'm not a modder ;) I just wanted to have Exhaust+Waterstream with OLCG2 and the idea of how to fix this and then IID is a result of discussion between me and h.sie in this thread

An old problem is fixed now. Obviously, the IID was not so popular for playing, so the problem was here during 2 years, virtually undetectable.
And, rs77, yes, you are modder. What you did with S3D, I can't do. I would like to know how to copy "chunks" from one .dat to another one, or from .val to .val etc, but I can't find tutorial or instructions.

OK. ok. Just tested this mods along with flag mod by Rubini, it works well, unfortunately Type IIA is missed by both mods and niether have flag, nor exhaust with optional files, but mod's original files does well and as far as I understud they give accurate single exhaust .

Hello! I Found a bug in current 2.3 version. Shipwake of Type IXD2 starts at the wrong point, so it looks nasty. I was manage to solve this problem.
