View Full Version : [REL] Radar Combimod
A huge thanks goes to Nisgeis and Anvart for their help and permissions in this mod.
This mod combines the hi-res radar screen with a range grid in the A-Scope (So you can get precise ranges), a new PPI screen, and optionally (In the metric version) Nisgeis' digital readout.
Now it's possible to track with certain accurancy a target using only the A-Scope, getting both bearing and range for the plot way beyond visibility limits.
Features:
-Hi res PPI and A-Scope display (1024x1024)
-A-Scope with single background and range scale
-PPI with historical layout
-Tweaked cameras to allow checking the bearing dial from A-Scope
-Re-scaled PPI to fit the new reduced part of the screen
-Range readout (Only in metric system version)
-Recalibrated and fixed radar bearing indicator (Above the A-Scope)
Current range precision with the new scale is +/- 50 yards when using the 20.000 yards scale, +/- 150 yards with the 60.000 yards one.

Great Job, I have to try this out.
Trabajo impecable, Hitman! Gracias!:yeah:
What ver does this work with?

Right now only stock 1.5, but there are instructions inside to adapt it to any other mod. RFB guys are taking a look at it, so I suppose they will add it in the future if it's up to their excellent standards

:yeah:Works great on the stock game 1.5......VERY NICE work :yeah:
and I put a link at UBI Fourm for here.
Hi Hitman, this mod looks great but I can't fully use it.
I'm using RFB and when activating this one on top of it, the camera controls get all messed up. It would turn really fast on mouse movements and I also can't roam free in my sub anymore.
So I deleted the cameras.dat from the mod and used the one from RFB with your radar mod but I still have few to none control about the cameras, very annoying. Then I also deleted the ...gato.sim file from the mod, which fixes my camera issue but would also revert my radar back to stock-look :shifty:
(I thought the shader files where responsible for that).
What would I need to do to prevent any changes to camera behaviour done by this mod ?
Thanks in advance, i. :salute:
EDIT: Just remembered: it also puts a weird, light yellow texture onto the back of my speed dial in the command room in a gato sub. This isn't intentional, is it ?
EDITEDIT: I just compared the .sim files (the one from RFB and yours) and made a change myself. I just kept RFB's .sim file and edited it to use your AScopeBK.tga. Then installed the mod without your .sim file and without the cameras.dat.
But now your ascope scale is so low-res, it is completely unreadable while the ppi screen has an overlapping of it's old texture and your new one. Not as easy as I though it is to fix :hmmm:.
EDITEDITEDIT: Ok, I took the values from the radar sections of your .sim file to RFB's one and now everything looks and works fine there.
Only the weird speed dial texture issue remains. May this be connected to your mod ?
Hi guys
If your using 1.4 version of the game , I use this mod: PPI CIRCLE RANGE MARK, it works really nice.
This mod ;
1) activates the PPI CIRCLE RANGE MARKS.
2) Changes the color and style of the ppiCircles and Radar backround.
Credit goes to:
Redwine and Hitman for their work on starting the whole idea, and tweak ideas.
Redwine's PPI_DS_RW-3 idea.
Jace11 for his ideas and willing to tweak.
LukeFF for rebooting the idea into a new REQUEST,and 1024 idea.
DarkShip for excellent work on PhotoShop layers, and overall demonstration, and PPI_DS_RW-3.
---------
NEW PPI's
---------
All have Blackbackground/dimmer range rings/brighter bearing display.
Zip contains ;
1. MR_PPI_BK_4 : Basic default marks.
2. MR_PPI_BK_RD_4-2 : 30 degree radial lines.
3. MR_PPI_BK_SC_40-20-8_7 : range scale.
4. MR_PPI_BK_RD_SC_40-20-8_8 : range scale/30 degree radial lines.
5. PPI_DS_RW-3 : Redwines requested PPI.
Note : #3 and 4 includes a 40|20|8 range mod to match scale on PPI.

No idea yet, sorry. There is a PDF with instructions included about how to make it compatible with any mod. I know also that the RFB guys are evaluating if it will be included in their next release.

It's integrated and working quite nicely with RFB. :yep:

This is great news. I discovered that not only the speed dial is messed up, many of the dials seem to use some low resolution textures. Must be in the .sim file. But it's allright, I will just wait for the RFB update to get released and replace it then.

That's the result of adding Nisgei's calibrated bearing dial. Since the base graphic he used is the stock game one, and not OakGroove's hi-res U-Boat interiors, this causes the game to go back to the stock lower res dials.
Ah thanks. So this behaviour will be ported to RFB also ?

It will if the graphic used is the same, but you can enable the mod without it, and the game will use whatever other is installed (stock or Oak's one if his kit is added). In that case, though, the bearing might be off one or even two degrees sometimes.
P.S.
where did you add markers for smaller numbers? I don't notice the difference from your screenshot...

My mistake, I did read the docu pdf but not thoroughly enough, I guess. I had mistaken the down scale for a mark count, so I wondered why those numbers didn't fit with the number of marks. And then changed the smaller scale to make it fit.
But reading the docu again, I realized that the scales don't count the marks, they already give away the actual range (I always calculated by myself from the number of marks).
I feel so stupid now... :damn:

I don't have any plans to add the range display mod to RFB, as it just doesn't meet my standards for inclusion into the mod. I'm not saying that Nisgeis's work on this mod is poor (quite the opposite, actually), but the range display is just not something that's coded to work properly with American radar displays.
Just curious, why can't the range readout be configured for imperial measurements? Or is it possible but just not a reality?

Hardcoded stuff. The digital display will only give back numbers in metric system. You only can work with textures, but numbers are not direct replacement for others in this case.

And there's also the problem of the display going only up to 9,999 meters. In reality American SJ radar units had ranges far beyond that.

Is there another link to this mod? Filefront link keeps returning an error message on both metric and imperial versions. I've searched SubSim download section and Beneath the Shadows (BTS) but had no luck.
Thanks in advance
Edit: Disregard. All is apparently good and right in the world of Filefront.

You're going to add the mod to RFB without the digital range counter though, right? The fleet boat version of this mod already doesn't have the digi-counter anyway.
I really want an a-scope with finer markings. I've noticed that this one removes the stock (and historical) "logarithmallity" to the scale so it's strictly linear which is probably easier to make the fine markings for. I figure it is possible to make a logarithmic scale and finer markings at the same time but accuracy would be higher at shorter rangers than longer due to the scale squish.
Can anyone post a RFB compatible version or the instructions for editing the dats and sims for this mod so I can make such a version?

Exactly. That's why it was made linear (Thanks to Anvart, who assisted also on that).:smug:

The download includes already step-by-step instructions to make it compatible with any mod, using Silent 3ditor.

I know I tried the digital readout with TMO long ago. It worked overall, except I could no longer use sonar myself. It worked fine with the crew using it.

LOL I have so many times answered with things that are in the readmes, that I have a notepad text file exclusively filled with sentences to copy and paste like "It's stated in the readme", "The readme contains those instructions", etc. :har:

Does anyone have a link to some bigger radar contact splotches? They aren't supposed to be so tiny like is shown in this thread. The radar's width was 5° or something so when the radar was pointed somewhere it lit up for the whole time. The dots should be about the size of 5° of the pie. Right now they're about 10x too small.

Hi Hitman.
Its seems i have to adress to you about some changes i made in Radar Combimod (nothing nasty :DL).
Here is what i changed
1.
http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/8148/scopebiring.jpg
I added more bearings, 10.20.30.... and so on. You get the picture.
2.
I made the numbers bigger. With the original TGA i can barely see them, maybe its my monitor fault :shifty:.

If its ok with Hitman, and someone wants to try thise out. I can upload. I have TMO 1.7 JSGME ready Imperial version ;)

@ Dimitrius
You can make me happy if you can upload it, I`v been waiting for this one.
Thanks!
Sure, no need even to ask permissions from me, as stated in the readme
Nice job, I did not add more bearings and larger numbers to keep the historical looks as much as possible, but it sure looks nice :salute:

Keep in mind that you need the original Imperial version of the mod. Enable addon only after you enable Radar Combimod.
As Hitman mention the bearing indicators are not historycal correct, it was made by request. I`am appologies for any gramatic errors (just trying my best).
In any case.... Good hunting :ping:
