Gerroffme and check the mod. The image is called Raza2.tga (and there's one in each of the two DAT files).

BTW....what was wrong with the original file structure? :hmmm:

OLC,

Just FYI and IIRC, we made the beam that long since early GWX (in truth an old work/idea by CCIP and oRg) because we introduced the anti-air attack beams on the ports. IIRC they use the same beam and for that purpose long beams were better. Also, i can be wrong again, but the default sh3 beam is short like this new one.

Only problem with editing the existing lites.
You FUBAR the Lights for Air Raids.

You'll need to Clone the Lites and do some renameing
and Campaign work to retain them.

As I see more ships than air raids, that's fine by me.

Come to think of it...I have never seen an air raid!

I think "FUBAR" might be overstating. ;)

Besides, like Letum I have yet to see a single air raid (and I've played... gosh... maybe as many as a hundred GWX patrols).

On the other hand, I see ships all the time!

Given the amount of work involved in changing the air raid lights I don't think I'll bother... not on the off-chance that I see an air raid some time in my next hundred patrols. :arrgh!:

It comes down to 2 schools of thinking.
If you break something while fixing others?
You've FUBARed somethings.
That's one school.

The other school teachs to fix things
without breaking other things.

So,
As I follow the Second school?
I'll stand by my post.

And it's not a mean post.
Just fact.
:yep:

I think he means the air raids aren't completely broken.
They still work much like they did before, just with less white things.

You could argue that the smaller ships lights FUBAR the air raids, but at the
same time you could argue that the large air raid lights FUBAR the ships.

I think it's more a matter of taste than anything else.

Madox58

It can be argued any way you wish.

And I don't have a problem with the quick fix in any way.

But the fact remains,
it breaks things.

So shall we break the Whales and Dolphins
because you hardly ever see them?

Hey, there's those darned Sea Forts also.
Let's mess those up too!

It's no big deal how or what someone does to the files.
OLC himself should know I'm not upset nor bothered by this fix.

I was asked to state my opinion,
and I did.

So carry on and enjoy the fix.
Let's not make it a big deal any longer.

Privateer out!

onelifecrisis
05-23-09, 09:02 PM
It is mean, and it's not a fact. :-?

All I've done is change the texture used on the beams. Air raids are not broken by that change, nor are they F*cked Up Beyond All Recognition. They'll work exactly the same as before but with shorter-looking searchlights.

Edit:
I cross-posted with you, privateer. I get what you're saying, but you could choose your words better IMO. Nevermind. This was a five minute mod, it's not worth arguing about.

On-Land search lights were more powerfull and yes they had longer light beams. In fact in RL they were more transparent than in the game.

It would be perfect if the game allowed to tweak the lenght of land based and ships mounted searchlights independantly. So there would be less debate about reality.

Not to mention the weather conditions also reflects on light beam visibility. And i guess it's already too real for the game to handle it, unless SH5 will do the trick :)

If you can trust on what you see here is one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_sRY1PDVUgk :DL

I've never seen an air raid either and i've been playing for 4 years....that said, i'd very much like to see an air raid. If the original search lights were extended then didn't that fubar the ship search lights ? That said, Privateer alludes to the possibility of creating two search light types....one for the ships and one for the air raids.

I like the new look they work just the same as before just not great beams of light thought-out a convoy.
I cant understand this discussion at all why try to rubbish the mod if its not to your taste then don’t use it.
Well done OLC for realising this mod it give us freedom of choice and not what certain people think we should use. :salute:

Thanks for the thanks guys. Seems like a surprisingly popular little mod. :shucks:

Edit:
I've just replaced the download, in the SUBSIM download section, with a new version. I slightly tweaked the beam so that it's not quite so thin but still the same length and about the same brightness. I also fixed a duplicate ID problem in one of the .dat files and repositioned some of the beams slightly, in order to fix a graphical glitch visible on some beams close-up.
