Hello guys!

Although I am new to the forum I've been playing Silent Hunter series for years. I have a problem now that I cannot seem to solve, and I'd like to ask for help.

I installed Silent Hunter III and GWX 3.0 and SH Commander 3.20. Then I installed OLC Gold and all patches needed. I start a new campaign and during my first mission when I want to stop playing a save my game and exit. Later on I load it and continue playing but after I make second save game and try to load it later to continue with my mission the game crashes. In detail, during the loading screen on that news sheet instead of allied shipping tonnage I see the name of my save game and then when I see that writing "Not so long ago" the game crashes. I tried to reinstall everything, and began a new career and it happened again.

Has anyone encountered anything like this?

P.S. I only recently installed the OLC Gold. I had played a lot before that and never had such a problem.

I have never had this happen with GWX3.0, but I don't use the olc mod.

Well, maybe this will sound funny, but I am used to make multiple saves when I play my games. That's what I did while I was playing my career, first I saved as "mis1", then during the same patrol I saved as "mis2", and then when I tried to load it, it didn't work. So it occured to me that saving in multiple files during the same patrol might have caused the mess, and apparently, I was right. I started a new career and now I only have one save game file which I overwrite every time I make a new save during current patrol and it works fine.

Hmm, that's bizarre. I always make new saves, and I tend to make about a dozen of them on each patrol. Doesn't cause me CTD's (touch wood).

It's good that you have a workaround, but I hope you find a proper fix (one that lets you make multiple saves). Overwriting your one-and-only-savegame sounds well risky to me. :o

Until someone more knowledgeable comes along with a solution, the only thing I can contribute is for you to zip up your career folder once a day or so to have as a backup to restore if things go really wrong.

These longstanding "savegame bugs" makes me wish Ubisoft would have released one more patch to fix it.

Yes, I usually have 20 or so savegames per patrol too. It's either the game state in which you saved it (submerged, or unit in vicinity, etc. ... like Graf Paper said, blame lazy Ubisoft) Or perhaps faulty hardware (drive) that is the likely cause of the issue.

It certainly doesn't appear to me that saving multiple times or overwriting the same save is the panacea here.

What I do firmly believe though is that keeping the 'Player' default line in the save folder lessens your chances of what you are experiencing by a considerable amount.

Furthermore, I'm confident all would agree that saving whilst submerged, near rendered objects etc. etc. is a surefire way of raising game crash possibilities.

The SH3 game engine is a picky beast on the best of days, people who have experience of multiplay will readily attest to that.

Thus far the only 100% game save solution fix centres around the missing saves issue.

Well saving multiple times over the same save works fine for me, what it didn't work was having several save files for one patrol. I've never saved submerged or close to other ships so I have no idea what cause the problem. I've also left my "Player" career as instructed in GWX manual. Anyway, as I said, I've solved the problem so everything is ok now.
I wanna thank all of you who have responded to my problem. Thank you guys!

Overwriting previous saves seems pretty risky to me. I did that a couple of times & always ran into trouble (ctd's).:damn: I hope that it doesn't happen to you.
