Thats very nice OLC.:yep:
I tried the mod first time yesterday. My Uboat was depth charged at 250m. Torpedo tubes 5 and 6 took damage and it took 2h and 12min for the crew to repair both tubes.
I think it should be called the "think twice before you attack" mod. No more "heroic" stuff and all that anymore but that's fair enough.
Thank you. :yeah:

P.S. The LRT for OLC 'Gold' mod doesn't include the "shaking screen" mod when being depth charged and also the sound mod, right?

Regards,
tfn

Really! Hmm. Thanks for the news. That mod I was making (several months of bloody hard work) was completely lost when I lost my HDD :damn: but maybe now it can be rewritten in half the time? :hmmm: Anyway, back to SH3...

Well..
Seeing what you are doing here.. Half the time
I don't have modding aspirations there, installing the game with mods is an adventure itself.. I installed over 160 mods, then some guy released update containing 2 esps instead 1, got lost in the wilderness of pain.. Now thinking whether I should play ltd. number instead.. :rotfl:At least to be safe of corrupted saves.. :rotfl:

Anyways, try deadly reflex 5.0.. It is updating that combat to a new level.. Guy ducks.. :o

Ok, back to sh3

...installing the game with mods is an adventure itself...

:rotfl:
160? You're crazy. I had maybe 12 mods total. Didn't see the need for any more than that.

I installed over 160 mods ... Now thinking whether I should play ltd. number instead.. :rotfl:

IMHO a limited number of mods is the WTG in any game. ;)

Anyways, try deadly reflex 5.0...

Nah. IMO that mod has maybe one or two features that sound good, and a hundred totally rubbish features that look ridiculous. It's not my taste at all (like the vast majority of mods ;)).

I've made a small update to the mod and put it in the SUBSIM downloads section. The update fixes some minor text/font problems in the LRT crew management screen (no functionality changes). You can disable your current LRT for OLC 'Gold' mod and replace it with this one without problems (even mid-patrol).

Cheers,

Ahm.. What does this LRT do ?

Its the "Longer Repair Times" v2.04 mod adjusted for players using OLC 'Gold' with GWX 3.0 of course.
From the readme:
Longer Repair Times v2.04 Full mod 'LRT' for use with GWX v3.0 Gold mod (created on 1-18-2009)

mod created by ZMC
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The goal of this mod is to 'hopefully' make SH3 more realistic, challenging, and fun.

Main features of Longer Repair Times v2.04 mod include:

a) Much longer U-boat repair times than vanilla SH3-

This was implemented because the usual one or two minute equipment repair times in vanilla SH3 game is just plain ridiculous, and borderline cheating. Real U-boat damage could take up to a day or more to repair, or couldn't be repaired at all, and the U-boat would have to abort back to base early. This is what I am trying to model with this mod. It will now be very rash to run in attacking convoys recklessly without considering the consequences. Also, it is highly recommended that you qualify some crew with the repair skill. Expect heavily damaged equipment to take up to 16 hours+ to repair. Also expect to abort more often back to base due to unrepairable equipment, just like it was in real life.

b) Less U-boat crew compartment deaths below deck, and greatly increased chance of crew deaths on top deck-

This was implemented because crew deaths inside U-boat compartments caused by depth charges happen much too often in vanilla SH3. In real life, most U-boat crew deaths were caused by drowning due to flooding or pressure hull failure, being killed on the top deck by enemy gunfire from aircraft or ships, being killed by bomb explosions on top deck, or drowning or freezing to death in the open sea after abandoning the U-boat. Most U-boat crew deaths were not caused by the actual depth charge explosion.

c) Much slower U-boat compartment flooding times-

This was implemented for two reasons. First, due to the decreased crew efficiency (to make the repair times longer), I had to slow down the flood times because the crew couldn't ever stop the flooding before the compartment filled up. Now, this isn't an issue. Second, when a compartment completely fills up with water, you are dead- game over. I think this is also ridiculous. With LRT v2.04, the compartments fill up much slower with water, sometimes taking more than 1000 minutes to completely fill up. This will give your crew more time to battle the flooding, without always getting the instant flood death game over screen. So realize that there is a good chance that you will die from being crushed at extreme depths due to pressure hull failure, and much less likely to die from actual complete compartment flooding.

d) Less U-boat instant death (game over) screens from 0% Hull Integrity-

I am trying to lessen the instant death screens due to hull integrity reaching zero percent (due to depth charges, enemy shells and bombs). What I have done is greatly increased all U-boat hit points and gave each compartment it's own armor rating (no more dependence on hull integrity). Now there is less relevance of hull integrity, except when diving past crush depth. All U-boat crush speeds were greatly increased to make up for the increased U-boat hitpoints. You won't have much time to live once hull failure begins (when going past crush depth). Internal and external u-boat equipment will still be damaged normally.

e) Uncertainty of repair and flood recovery times -

I removed all flood and repair timers for realism reasons. This was just too arcadish in my opinion. Now you will only have a basic estimate of repair and flooding recovery times, just like a real U-boat captain would. As the captain of a U-boat, you will have to use your own best judgement. Hopefully this new feature will add a bit of realism, uncertainty, and fun to your SH3 experience.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am excited about this mod and have put a lot of time and effort into it. Hours of playtesting and tweaking, trying to get the right balance. I hope you enjoy this mod as much as I have. I also wanna say a big thank you to everyone on the Subsim message board for their support, feedback, and great ideas. The awesome movie 'Das Boot' inspired me to make this mod. Hopefully, you too will experience your own Das Boot moments and live to tell about it. ;)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What's new in this latest version of Longer Repair Times Mod v2.04:

-fixed a few small menu text errors

-made a slight adjustment to custom depth charge sound effects

What's new in version Longer Repair Times Mod v2.03:

-updated and merged all LRT files to be used with GWX 3.0 Gold

(please note: LRT v2.03 is fully compatible with Rubini's latest Life Boat mod v4.0. Please install Rubini's Life Boat mod FIRST, then LRT 2.03 Full second)

What's new in version Longer Repair Times Mod v2.02:

-put the original louder custom DC sound effects back in

What's new in version Longer Repair Times Mod v2.01:

-Slightly lowered some of the special depth charge sound effects volume

-made LRT compatible with Rubini's Life Boat mod (install Life Boat mod first before installing LRT 2.01)

What's new in version Longer Repair Times Mod v2.0:

-updated and merged all LRT files to be used with GWX 2.1

-shortened U-boat repair times by half

-U-boat equipment and compartments will now be more easily damaged, especially by surface combat

-lowered u-boat compartment and some equipment armor ratings.

-repair times are as follows:

compartment:

1-2 Hours (Light)
2-4 Hours (Moderate)
4-8 Hours (Serious)
8-12 Hours (Very Serious)
12-16+ Hours (Critical)

equipment:

1-8 Hours (Damaged)
8-16+ Hours (Heavy Damage)

Please remember that these times are estimates only for when a full repair crew is working in a compartment. Do not use these estimates if the repair crew is not in that compartment doing repairs!! Also, repair times may vary greatly depending on number of crew in each compartment and their fatigue level.

-added my Longer Torpedo Wakes mod

-added my own custom depth charge interior sound effects. Now when the interior camera shakes from depth charges, there will be a rattling. hull groaning sound. The closer the depth charge explosion, the louder the rattling sound. Also, when depth charges explode really close to the U-boat, there will be crew screaming and heavy breathing. I came up with this idea from when I used to mod SH4 a while back. Recently I was watching the movie Das Boot , and it inspired me to figure out a way to implement this effect. Hopefully it will add to the immersion, atmosphere, and terror of being depth charged. Have fun. ;)

-added my Depth Charge Shake mod. Here is from the original mod readme file:

************Hello fellow SH3 players. Has it ever bothered you that when you are are being depth charged or bombed in SH3, the close falling charges or bombs never seem to shake your U-boat? Well, it has always bothered me. That gentle rocking back and forth when being blasted with depth charges just doesn't convince me of the immense danger outside of my iron tube. This mod was released to deal with that missing feature. With Depth Charge Shake v1.03, your U-boat will shake from nearby exploding depth charges... I mean REALLY shake. ;) If the charge or bomb explodes fairly close to your U-boat, it will shake violently. This does not automatically mean that your U-boat is taking damage, but there is a good chance that it is.Farther away depth charges may only slightly shake the U-boat or not at all. I feel this mod realistically models nearby explosion shock waves striking the U-boat and extreme compartment vibrations/ shaking .

Hopefully now you feel like your U-boat is taking damage, and the big question... "How much longer can she hold together?". I hope Depth Charge Shake v1.04 will immerse you even more into SH3. Turn up your speaker volume and hold onto something tight!

**Known issues**

When taking cannon fire on the surface, the U-boat will violently shake, as if being severely depth charged. Sorry, but this is an unavoidable hard-coded side-effect that I cannot change. Also, if trying to repair on the sea bed floor, the U-boat may eventually take collision damage- even when not moving. This happens especially when your boat has heavy flooding. When this happens, the screen will sometimes shake. Not violently, but it will shake. This is also unavoidable. In rougher seas when cruising on the surface, the U-boat may shake and vibrate slightly sometimes due to large waves hitting the U-boat's hull. I feel that this is somewhat realistic, so hopefully it's not really an issue.**************

Longer Repair Times v2.04 mod created by Nvdrifter. Special thanks to the GWX Team for making such an awesome mod.

**And finally, the GWX programming team in no way endorses or supports any versions of the LRT. And they are in no way responsible for any gameplay problems you may have when using Longer Repair Times v2.04 or Longer Repair Times LITE v2.03 and GWX at the same time.**

With Special thanks to the following playtesters for all their help, feedback and support:

Rango
The Bad Wolf
Samwolf
anzacmick
Philipp_Thomsen
Uber Gruber

And of course thanks to all members on the Subsim message board for your ideas and comments.

I decided to come out of modding retirement one last time to update LRT so it could be used in conjunction with GWX 3.0 Gold. I am now retiring again- for good this time, so this will surely be the last version of LRT. Again, thanks everyone for using LRT these past few years! Good luck and happy hunting!

Not to anything like the same extent. Repairs that take seconds in GWX can take hours in LRT.

Re: Known Issues
I don't duke it out on the surface with armed vessels, and I don't attack in shallow waters, so the camera shake and sea-floor damage are not a problem for me personally. In fact I'd guess that the camera shake problem doesn't even happen in this version (since I removed the camera shake part of the mod altogether) and the sea floor damage can be "fixed" by using one of the mods that remove sea floor damage (there is one such mod included in the original LRT download, and another was released by someone else here... might have been Mikhayl... I can't remember now).

Edit:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=146900

Download the mod and inside you'll find an optional JSGME mod called No Collision Damage. Read the readme.

I like to use a deck gun if weather allows and the vessel is not armed to save a torp or two. But if you say the shake is removed it's worth trying.

Yeah I know what you're talking about. I've seen the "no sea floor damage" mod or smtng like that somewhere..

Downloaded and tried the deck gun in naval academy. No cam shake. Will use it, thanks a lot! :)

Have one question to ask to make sure I did the right thing.
It's about EDE. So I have OLC gold enabled, LRT for OLC Gold too. Now I have swaped EDE for OLC with GWX - EDE (OLC-LRT).

Is it ok ?

Umm, I think you've misunderstood the problem. The original LRT mod causes camera shake when you get hit by gunfire, not when you're the one doing the firing. This version of LRT might not have that problem, but I'm not in any hurry to engage armed merchants to find out.

I think I might please you with this as well. Who or what is LWS ? Pardon my ignorance as I'm lost sometimes with these short terms :)

I just came back from a convoy tutorial where I started to blast warships and then merchants and sank the whole convoy without moving from the spot :) I did get couple of hits from the deck gun and flacks but camera wasn't shaking. So I guess the shake issue when hit is solved ?

If it's important to know I was standing on the bridge when I was hit by warships deck guns.

I think I might please you with this as well. Who or what is LWS ? Pardon my ignorance as I'm lost sometimes with these short terms :)

LWS stands for "Late War Sensors Snorkel Antennas" mod. From the GWX readme.
Implementation of Late War Sensors in GWX GWX implements two new sensor antennas:
1. FuMB-3 Bali: All type VII and Type IX U-boats and their variants mount this antenna on their schnorchel starting in October 1944 as part of the FuMB-29 Bali-Anlage.
2. FuMB-37 Leros: All Type XXI U-boats mount this antenna atop their schnorchel starting in January 1945.
The FuMB Leros RWR set included use of the FuMB-3 Bali antenna but had superior range and detection capabilities; however, the FuMB-37 Leros RWR set is not included in stock Silent Hunter III. The GWX team therefore distinguishes between the operational specification and capabilities of the two systems by using the term ―FuMB-37 Leros‖ to refer to the antenna and associated receiver that provide superior detection range, and not the complete RWR set that included the Athos RWR. *IMPORTANT NOTE* Selecting either of these RWR antennas while at the Radar Warning Upgrade screen may result in the destruction of all RWR equipment aboard your U-boat on your next mission. The new RWR schnorchel antennas will appear on the U-boat upgrade screen at the aforementioned dates, but do not select them. You must follow a special procedure to allow GWX to perform the upgrades automatically since the system of using renown points to purchase equipment does not work for devices that were not included in stock Silent Hunter III.

ok. I'm used to enable LWS all the time.. I remember I have read about this in GWX manual, but couldn't realize what is actually wrong with these antenas and what this procedure does :-?

I never survived till the late war as I'm always start my career from the very begining of the war. So I guess I'm still not familiar with this issue and it's workaround.

LWS should only be enabled if you are using certain late-war sensors. Basically, you should not enabled LWS unless you've upgraded your sub with a bit of equipment which specifically states (in the in-game description) that you should enable LWS.

You're not alone. For some reason, loads of people enable mods without even reading about what they do.

Yes. it's Mikhayl's "Seabed Repair Mod"
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=957

I have installed both the LRT Lite and the SBR Mods and they run fine together so far. I once spent 4 hrs down on the bottom of the sea to repair my rather small DC demage. But I can't say anything if this still works with GWX Gold, I'm still on GWX 2.1 and happy with it.
