View Full Version : How do you disable the UZO/periscope automatic ship ID please?

I first asked this question last year in this (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=130049) thread, but it remains to be solved.

In brief, I wish to disable the ship ID text (e.g. 'merchant', 'submarine', etc.) that appears in the top right hand corner of the periscope and UZO view when the cross-hairs are placed over a vessel. This utterly ruins the sense of realism for me as it often identifies a vessel from thousands of yards away, in pitch blackness and sometimes through harbour walls. :nope:

In reply to my original thread, Gordonmull kindly pointed me to Wolfies Tweekpak from the SH3 mods section which includes an option to disable this text. But I can't get it to work with GWX3.0.

Can anyone help? It's such a shame because otherwise I am luuuurving GWX3.0. :yeah:

I'm surprised you didn't get a more useful answer, as this fix is almost as old as the game itself! If you want to DIY, just open data\roster\English.cfg and change all the ship names to a hyphen (-) like this:

[ClassNames]
Ship=Ship
Submarine=Submarine
Air=Aircraft
Land=Land
Warship=Warship
Merchant=Merchant Ship
Ordnance=Ordnance

;Warships
Type0=-
Type1=-
Type2=-
Type3=-
Type4=-
Type5=-
Type6=-
Type7=-
Type8=-
Type9=-
Type10=-
Type11=-
Type12=-
Type13=-
Type14=-
Type15=-
Type16=-

;Merchant ships
Type100=-
Type101=-
Type102=-
Type103=-
Type104=-
Type105=-

;Submarine
Type200=-
Type201=-
Type202=-
Type203=-

;Air
Type300=-
Type301=-
Type302=-
Type303=-
Type304=-
Type305=-
Type306=-

;Land
Type400=-
Type401=-
Type402=-
Type403=-
Type404=-
Type405=-
Type406=-
Type407=-
Type408=-

;Ordnance
Type500=-
Type501=-It's important to use a hyphen character (-) and not just a blank space.

Many thanks OneLifeCrisis... it's working now. I wonder why the GWX team didn't remove it? :hmmm:
