President Obama will have his first Supreme Court vacancy to fill. Justice Souter is retiring, apparently to get away from Washington and back to his home state of New Hampshire.
Souter was a Bush 41 appointee, but he is on the Court's liberal wing, so his retirement is unlikely to affect the Court's ideological balance.
I wonder if whatever happened to that suit to take his house by eminent domain?

Wonder if it will take a few years to fill the seat due to politics like Bush's nominations did.
Yes I know Suitor was a bush nomination, he (Bush) dident exactly get what he expected.

That kind of thing has happened a lot over the years.

Here we go...
Basically Obama needs to put a Left wing equivalent to the Justice who thinks we need a "Bill of Responsibilities"

What the heck does that mean? And what does it have to do with upholding constitutional law?

Just want some balance that is all. And spare me the side talk. It will be a left winger. Its the least us Dems can do after Alito managed to get in.
And don't worry. Its not like the court will get more left. The ones likely to retire in 4 years are central left to left in their rulings.
Sorry but when a Justice goes so far as to wonder why there is no "Bill Of Responsibilities" I wonder if they all really give a damn about the constitution.

You talking about Thomas now? Oh my!, an SCJ who actually believes that personal responsibility goes hand in hand with personal rights! How DARE he suggest that self reliance is important to the health of our nation, and that some how we're not owed prosperity and a high standard of living.
We're just a step from the Gulag with that kind of talk!

Souter is out. So there goes one vote to the left (though he was supposed to be to the right when he originally joined). An independent is who Obama says he is going to seat up there. Wonder how that will go?

Well yeah. The common definition of an Independent Thinker is someone who agrees with ME!

Everyone should have known this was comming.
Obama even mentioned the importance of SC justices and the balance during his campaign.
Some things you can almost be assured of
* The nominatin will be decidedly liberal.
* The nomination will most likely be of hispanic heritage.
* The nomination will likely be a woman.
* The nomination will most likely have tax issues :rotfl:
