I know that the question is not much about Sh3 but since more people visit this section I hope to find my answer faster:D Actually I'm looking for 3 names
1. Operation Drumbeat, one of the skippers aims at a ship but he sees that the beach is full of people. He decided to turn and aim at the opposite side of the ship to avoid hurting anyone in case of a dud eel. I guess it might have not been the sole example of such attitude but I only heard about one.
2. Operation Drumbeat(seen this story about 10 years ago in some TV documentary, after reading a few books this story doesn't hold water for me but still...)One of the u-boats have a double objective mission: deliver a spy/agent to the East Coast of US and sink merchants in the area. The priority is given to the spy mission which means that the agent has to be delivered first. The captain disobeyed the order and decided to follow a merchant by doing what he lost time. When he finally put the agent ashore he managed to reach some city but was soon captured due to characteristic smell. The conculsion of this story was that the captain was guilty of losing this agent because of mentioned hunt. For me it doesn't make sense because after going through the Atlantic he had already absorbed that smell so 2-3 additional days wouldn't have made any difference.
3. Taken from C.Blair, Hitler's uboat war v.2- read it once, I can't find it any more. The captain lost his uboat after he got attacked. They were rescued by other uboat which a few days later got attacked and both crews had to abandon the ship. He took his gun and shot into his mouth, luckily the bullet missed the spine so he only had a hole in his neck.
3 names required, thx
