I was not sure were to post this, in the mods workshop or the general Silent Hunter III forum.

I have played this game over the years. First 1.4b without mods, then 1.4b with some mods then with GWX 2.1. A few day ago I installed GWX 3.0 (on a clean install of SH III 1.4b) (see * for enabled mods). I did 4 patrols on 68% realismm with external camera (I like the spectacle).

When it is night I cannot see ANYTHING. Only when there are explosions I can see anything but normally the sea and sky is pitch black and are indistinguishable. I cannot even see my sub or a ship at less than 1km, through external camera, UZO or periscope [in clear weather]. What can I do to change this?

*: GWX - Enhanced Damage Effect, GWX - No Medals on Crew, GWX 2.1 Mission Orders, GWX - Warning Orders, GWX 2.1 Minor fix's 26th April, Lifeboats&Debris_v2_A.

Certain time of the year the sky will be pitch black due to no moon.
If you would like too you can always try my V2 water mix.

The OLC environmental mod is incorporated into GWX3.0 and in many peoples opinion (including mine) is a great addition to the mod.

Trust me when I say that this mod will add to the realism and you should get accustomed to it in time.

Have you tried adjusting your monitor settings?

It also depends if you play during daytime or nighttime (real life)
you can try eating carrots or adjusting gamma on your monitor. :sunny:

Freakwave, you are absolutely right. I just played in the evening/after the sun went down. I could actually see my sub at midnight with the external camera. Time to reinstall my window blind. But atleast my problem is solved. Thanks for all the help.

I already had my contrast & brightness up to 100%, my screen is struggling to stay contrasted & brightened after 8 years of service, I'm going to buy my first flat screen soon.
