hello great guys
i use GWX 3.0 Gold edition and have a high end system
i have dropping framerates when i am inside a convoy
how is this possible? i have a very good ATI videocard and it can handle the game excellent
can someone explain me this?:O:
another question my engine did not work when i was north of a large convoy. After a full speed backwards order my engine started working
is this a malfunction? (i have malfunctions + sabotage on in sh3 commander)

(just sank a british S-class submarine)
GWX is the best!:yeah:

First... Welcome Aboard :salute: ( my bad manners  )

Your rig should play it fine and have good fraps.

Alot of stuff running in background while playing maybe ?

Specs are pretty good; SH3 runs on one core so your CPU is actually 2.7 which is a problem sometimes.
Since you have XP, I am not sure how much RAM your system could use; I think only 2Gb. If not so, adding some RAM might help.
Make sure you have enough virtual RAM, and perhaps tone down some of the frame rate killers (in my case it is anti-aliasing; my maximum is 4x)
Otherwise, I don't think you can do anything except mess with your video drivers to see if you get better performance. On my nVidea card, a new beta driver doubled my frame rate.
Near a convoy, the system is challenged due to the enormous amount of information which must be processed.
Your engines didn't work because of sabotage. Shoot the entire French maintenance crew when you get back to port.

@irish

I too sometimes get this slowdown, interesting reading your thoughts on multi core cpu's. I have a quad core 2.4, do you know of anyway to force the cpu to use one core only, or should I say force the cores to combine their efforts so sh3 is making the most of the cpu ? I'm sure I've read somewhere this is possible, but I'm buggered if I can remember where

Best regards.

From what I understand (and I am a novice) multicore processors require a different programing language; The C++ used by most apparently doesn't work with the multicores, or at least doesn't work well.

Most, if not almost all, current and past software programs don't, and cannot utilize the multicore.
I have a duo core and hope to be able to utilize the new programs that support it.
The same is true for the 64 bit programs, although the programming language currently used can support this OK.

lakeskipper; I am sorry not to have welcomed you aboard. Welcome Aboard, Matey
Addendum: I use AlacrityPC to shut off all the mess that runs in the background. Google it and check it out.

Until, like IDSoftware did?
(They released the source code for Quake One under a GPL)
The Engine will not change.
It's not programmed to use Duo or Quad Cores.
You can assign Cores in Vista I think.
But not XP?

I run XP on a Duel Core at 1.7 GHZ
But the game falls back to half that.

Video intensive scenes, like Harbors and Large Convoys,
also start computeing the AI stuff.

There's where the slow down comes from.

@ privateer

Thanks shipmate :salute: After some searching I found an article and a small freeware app to assign the cores over at Toms Hardware. Testing now.

@lakeskipper

I can pm the url if you'd like.

Best regards.

you mean to get all the cores processing on multiple cores CPU processors with GWX? (there is told GWX with SH3 only uses one core):yep:

Not quite, the app forces the use of only one core. In my case CPU 0. After reading the article at Toms it seems this can speed up the running application (SH3). Still testing atm.

Best regards.

very curious about the results!
i hope you inform us all about the results mate. The framedrops are no fun but on my computer it happens now and then so it is not very disturbing:stare:

@lakeskipper

By all means I will shipmate. Perhaps privateer or irish can point me in the direction of the most heavy action convoy single mission. Might help speed up my investigation a tad ;)

Try HAPPY TIMES SM. Lots of ships and weakly escorted.

... SH3 runs on one core so your CPU is actually 2.7 which is a problem sometimes...Hi!I have old P4 630, 3.0GHz with HT technology, but SH3 in my case use both virtual processors/cores, so i think that it should be able to work with multiple cores too. Shakatan

hello great community
i now use ALACRITY for optimisation of my Core to duo processor (not to much background programs running while playing GWX 3.0 Gold
and i must say THE FRAMEDROPS ARE GONE
so my sugestion is this: CONFIGURE YOUR XP OR VISTA WITH ALACRITY FOR GWX 3.0 GOLD!:sunny::woot:

Hi!
AlacrityPC shutting down unnecessary progs and services which works in background and slows downy your PC.

Don't forget to use any RAM cleaning program before you start SH3. That should help too.

As noted, Happy Times has a lot going on. I didn't do the campaign files for GWX, so I am not familiar with the largest convoys. The person who did it is on leave for a couple of months and is not available to ask.
If you know how to do it (and I don't), you can open the campaign files in Mission Editor and see for yourself where the action is. I would try AM section in 42 or early 43 for action.

After much testing I can report a 10% minimum increase in fps using the small application found at Toms Hardware. Testing was done using the Happy Times s/m. I tried with outside view both en/disabled to see if there was any hit but at no time did I get any slow downs or stutter, an average of 95 fps in action. All this with 2x2 Supersampling/Super Transparency AA and 4x Anistropic filtering at a 1920x1200 screen res, using an 8800GTX 768 Ram with SLI disabled. Here is the link...........

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/getting-more-bang-out-of-your-dual-processing-buck,review-960.html

just follow the instructions the link for the app is on page one of the article.

Best regards.
