Hi,

it's gotten on my nerves for long enough now. Those wave splash sounds when my boat hits a wave is waaaayyyy too loud. I'm constantly switching my stereo from loud (interior) to not-so-loud (external cameras).
Sometimes I'm even avoiding climbing the bridge when I'm too lazy to turn the loudness down.

I got me a shareware version of a sound file converter which is also able to reduce the amplitude of sound files. It works fine but because it's shareware it would only write 60% of the converted file to disk.

So I've got 2 questions:
1. Is there any useful open source / freeware program to do that ? (Didn't find anything else and I'm not gonna buy something just to convert one file ;)).

2. The file I need to convert is the wave_bas_weather.wav, right ? I didn't find anything else that might create those wave splash sounds.

Thanks in advance :salute:

it would be easier to take the silent editor
and edit the sh.sdl file.

Sound Recorder, which came free with your computer, can change the volume of .wav files. I use it all the time.

Start/Programs/Sound Recorder.

Audacity is also quite a powerful program and can do lots of things.

how about i make a quick easy fix that takes 2 seconds?

open your sounds folder then find the 2 sounds your talking about.

they are the (P18_&KGun_water_splash & P18_&KGun_water_splash_hyd)

click on them to play it with your media player to confirm these are the sounds you want to change.

now copy the "P18_&KGun_water_splash" file over to your desktop then simply rename it as "P18_&KGun_water_splash_hyd" (it has to be named exactly the same way as the original.

now you get the same quiet splash inside or outside the boat.

take the original "P18_&KGun_water_splash_hyd" file and rename it "copy of P18_&KGun_water_splash_hyd" so that it wont be used but its still there if you want to switch back to it later.save it somewhere.

your done, try it out but if im wrong about the file names just search for the right files but the fix is the same.

this method isnt as good as tuning it to the right level but it is quick and easy.

enjoy

Thanks all you guys:03:

I was curious about the Silent Editor solution. Worked fine but it was a little bit weird that the sh.sdl doesn't even seem to list all of the sound files in my sound directory. The one that was definitely missing was the Wave_bad_weather.wav. I think I found the right entry nonetheless and will test it immediately.
