Ive just been exploring the virtual tour of USS Pampanito and Im wondering if anyone is working on adding more compartments to the player sub in SH4?

Dont think that can be done at least not in the full extent anyway. A modder could explain better than I can.
Have you seen what Tomi 099 is doing in the ATO mods forum? Impressive stuff.
extra 3D compartments it can be done but SH4 only seem to have references for two compartments... control + tower.
So the other compartments would require 3D creation be part of any of those two to overcome the game limitation.
but certanly possible

possible but then again, they always look better in 3DS Max than ingame due to the game's limitations... So what you see in 3DS is not what you get in SH4, unfortunately..
and it's very time consuming too..

Im surpirsed there is not at least a captain's quarters since that has been part of silent hunter since SH2. The Open Hatch mod for SH3 got over the compartment limitations in that game pretty innovatively and it added immensly to the immerion factor.
At this point Id take an open hatch between the control and conning tower. Ive been subsimming since 688i but the problem with SH3/SH4 is that the 3d compartment interface is so cool that I want more! FreeLancer from back in 2000 had a complete 3d spaceship which was way cool. Call me a child but I want candy! Putting extra 3d crew in the TMO mod just makes me want more.

SH 1.5 added in support for a third compartment enviornment, _RR.dat - Radio Room, which are loaded for Fleet Boats as well, if one wanted to take advantage of it.

SH2 had no compartents at all - only 2D screens to look at. It's a very different proposition.
And SH1 had the Captain's Cabin represented that way as well, so it predates SH2.
Still, I agree: other compartments would be cool, if not really necessary. Check out Tomi's work in the 'Torpedo Room' thread on the ATO Mods forum.
