Note - Vista proceedures are different from other OS in that only with vista do you need to change the normal install location for the game, all other OS are installed normally.

For those members that are moving on to Vista as an OS, do not think Vista will not let you run the game. I run Vista 64 Home Premium and SH4 runs perfectly. There are however a few things recommended! From personal experience I did the following to allow Vista to run SH4:

1. (vista users only) Create a root folder for your game(s). I created a root folder off the hard drive and named it GAMES2. I named it GAMES2 because there is a GAMES folder supplied by the Vista OS. Less confusion. This folder contains the MS provided OS games, ie chess, etc. So, you can name it KILLER SUB GAMES if you want. Up to you!

2a. (vista users only) Once done, insert your SH4 disc for installation. When prompted showing the files will load to the X86 files, click Browse and navigate to your newly created root folder for your games. Click OK and let it load.

2b. for all other OS install the game normally by clicking OK and let it load.

3. Once complete, install your patches or 1.5 add on disc. No worries, the install will find your UBI folder and load correctly.

4. As a side note, sometime the very first time you start SH4 with Vista, the menu screen will be black yet the music is playing, etc. No problem, open up the task manager and shut down the game. Go to your video card tweak program and reset the card to the default values(usually just a box to check and click OK. Start the game and the menu should not be black anymore. The game should look as it usually does. Close it out. Go back to your video card tweak program and reset the card to your liking. That's it, you will never have to do that again(unless you do a complete reinstall down the road)

5. Install JSGME. Runs like it does in XP. No issues here.

As far as running the install as administrator, no harm in doing that. I did not have do this. Some folks UAC are different from Vista OS to Vista OS. That is about it really. If anyone has anything to add, please do:yeah:

One thing with vista 64 and mods, when you use jsgme vista may create compatibility files in a separate folder. If you have problems switching mods you will need to delete these then the mods will function correctly again. You can click on the tab in sh4 folder or open it in your appdata/virtualstore/"your install location here"/Ubisoft/Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific folder.

In some installs it may do this. I think the previous version of JSGME could cause this... The newest version may not. If you look closely a lot of games cause this and they run just fine. It is because they are made to run on multiple versions of windows. I have had problems with mods uninstalling because of this. Easy to fix though.

Running SH4 with TMO 1.7 on Vista 32 bits. Never had a problem. Only had to put two files dsound.ini and dsound.dll (X-FI files from Creative Alchemy made for Creative sound card) in the program directory to get 5.1 sound AND install directx 9.0c from Microsoft. The game runs like :sunny:. Aniuk

you must run JSGME once for it to create the mods folder then unzip the mod to the desktop open that folder to find the folder that contains the mod it is the one with the data folder with it then copy it to the mods folder

Run JGSM
OR create the directory by hand.

something like this (depends on your install path)

"C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific\Mods"

It works.

What I do with Vista and I did this with XP. I extracted JSGME right to the main SH4 folder. Then, inside your main SH4 folder right click to make a new folder. Name it MODS. Extract any mods to this new MODS folder. Then use the JSGME icon within the SH4 folder to activate mods. Works for me. The reason I put all of JSGME inside my SH4 main folder, it keeps all my SH4 stuff there and I know were to find it.

What mods are you using? If it is a large mod pack like TMO/OM/RFB...you will notice a difference from stock right off the bat!

RFB and RSRD through JSGME. Never ran the game stock so I have nothing to compare it to.

I have everything in a separate folder called GAMES.

Well then, what does your opening of the game look and sound like? Is there a strange poem being read to you before the game loads? Is it the usual UBI logo and music playing when you load the game? If not, your mods are working.

Ok, they are not working. Write step by step what you have done. Were SH4 is loaded, etc. We will get you going. SH4 and Vista do play nice nice:D

Just looking through your previous post. Where is JSGME loaded? I extract mine right to the SH4 root folder. After that I got to the SH4 main folder and create a folder. Call it MODS. This is were you need to extract the mods to. Once done. Go back to the SH4 main folder and double click the JSGME icon to open. Activate the mods listed on the left. You should see a much different game right off the bat if the mods are working.

I appreciate the help. I'm an old member with few posts though the news page is one of my home pages as I live in the Submarine Capital of the World. :salute: I've played AoD and then SH, some SHII and a little SHIII before I drifted away. Now I'm back to play SHIV on the new computer.

I installed SHIV into a stand alone folder called GAMES on the hardrive outside of the x86 folder. I've installed JSGME into that GAMES folder. I created a MODS folder in the GAMES folder as well and extracted the mods into it. I then ran JSGME to install them and it said they were activated properly. I did all of this before running the game so I had nothing to go on as to whether it was working but as I've played, I've been coming to the realization it wasn't working.

BTW, the game itself runs fine.

It is great up to the part of your mods folder you created for the JSGME. This mods folder needs to be inside the SH4 main folder. As stated in my previous post. Extract the JSGME program right the SH4 main folder. Once done click the JSGEM .exe to install. Then, create your MODS folder inside the SH4 main folder. Simply right click scroll to NEW then FOLDER. Name it MODS(all caps) Extract all you mods to this fold! I keep the JSGME icon inside the main SH4 folder as well. Just more organized for me and I know it works when I do this.

When I extract mods I navigate to the MODS folder inside the SH4 main folder where I created the MODS folder. Once done, I navigate to the SH4 main folder and double click the JSGME icon to activate the mods. Close out JSGME when the mods are done activating and then close the SH4 main folder. Start your game.

Hmmmm, I think that's how I have it set up. Both JSGME and the MODS folder are with SH4 stuff in the GAMES folder. Maybe I should try and disable the mods and enable them again when I get back to port and see if it takes?

Yes, do not activate mods while in patrol. In fact, it you have this set up like I have posted. Go to your DOCUMENTS folder and find the SH4 folder in there. Open it up. There are two saved game files(saved games and rich saved games). Delete these(yes, you loose saved games but this is unavoidable). The go activate the mods. See what happens.

I activated everything before I started playing but I'll give everything a try once I get back to port. First I have to say hello to Bungo Pete and try and get rid of some of these extra torpedoes faster than the way I have been, one lone freighter at a time.

im actually running the RC 7100 of Windows 7, (the version of windows thats going to replace Vista) and im happy to report that on my system, SH4 with TM 1.7 overhaul and RSRD installed, the game runs better in windows 7 than in vista. I am betting 10 fps more. Im not benchmarker, but i do know when i see improvement. So if any of you guys out there are ho-humming about the new version of windows, you may want to look a little harder, because most of my games see a definite improvement in frames per second.

Glad to see you guys found Vista 32 has no problems with SH4...

One thing, I run Vista32.. like it... But install all my games into C:\Games on Vista to avoid the nasty ProgramsFile folder and rights...

SHIV runs fine from Games folder... except one thing...
You MUST install to Default to play ONLINE!

I play online some/alot... and found if your runing Vista32 and DO NOT let it default install in Programs File folder...
well, you will KICK everyone online your playing with once one of your torpedo's hit something..
You will stay connected..but no one else will..

It's not them... it's the install in Games Directory..

We tested this over and over.. tis true..
Once installed in default...all play well together online..
I know it sounds strange..but it's true..
it does not matter if you Host the game or Join one.

So I am assuming those that did install under C:\Games instead of default folder do not play online?
Try a game over at http://comsubspac.com/ to test the results.

If you never plan on playing online..C:\games works fine.. go figure..

Mine works fine using default install.. Only game I own that I do install to default on Vista!
and I use many different mod setups with no problems.. Just make sure to install as admin..

For those curious about Windows 7, I'm currently running the Release Candidate Build 7100 of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

Here is the Computer:
Gigabyte GA-MA780FXT-UD5P
AMD Phenom II X4 945 Processor Overclocked to 3.525 GHz (from 3.00 GHz)
8 Gigs of GSK Gaming Memory running 8-8-8-21 timings
Sapphire Vapor-X Radeon HD 4870 2GB (256 bit, GDDR5)
Zalman GS-1000 Case
Zalman ZM1000-hp 1000W PSU
WD 7200 RPM 1 TB HDD
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

Underload she runs cool and the game plays AMAZINGLY. For those of you waiting for Windows 7 it is a HUGE step above Vista. Previously I was running SH4 1.5 on Vista 64 bit and this is a much better rig than my previous one but the game runs very smoothly. If you can wait and can afford Windows 7 it will be worth every penny!

Greetings all! I'm finally getting back into SH4 1.5 after a very long hiatus. However, I have a problem. I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and when I run SH4, the 2 opening movies load and play fine...everything thereafter is black but I can hear sound. Anyone know of a reason and/or a fix for this?

To be clear, I have gone by the "normal" installation methods since others seem to have done ok by doing so. Just wondering if I should reinstall again using the main method prescribed in the original post... :hmmm:

**EDIT** Nevermind...got it all figured out. ;-) Missed a bit of tweaking on the video card.

Just re-installed my rig with Windows7 64bit.

For those of you who try to port old game installs into a new OS, then good news. After re-install of windows 7, I found I needed to...

1/ Re-install JSGME (this allowed JSGME to locate a mods folder)
2/ Set JSGME to run with admin privelages. (Under JSGME.exe properties tab)
3/ Run SH4.exe
4/ re-configure options such as reality level, graphics options.
5/ Play.

Didnt even need to re-install any mods. No registry entries needed. Completed one patrol with no issues.

Vsita and win 7 users should install jsgme as administrator or it may not ask to create a mod folder.
Seen it happen several times.
Rule of thumb, vista and 7, always install everything as administrator.

I'm having some issues with my keyboard commands on Win 7.

I'm running a brand new MacBook Pro 17 with bootcamp and Win 7 Enterprise edition with SH4 Gold 1.5, and some of the keys seemed to have been randomly remapped. The all stop key "~" does not work and now the rudder amid ships key " ' " has become the all stop?!?:shifty: This happens even before any MODS are installed, and the only one I use is the OHIO SSBN one.

I looked at the commands.cfg file and all the keys are assigned correctly in there.

I have done three total uninstalls and clean reinstalls also deleting any leftover SH4 and Ubisoft folders before install. The final install that I just did, I assigned it to install in the root of the C: drive so that it would not be in the programs folder as I saw in another threat that this sometimes caused problems.

Previously I had been running the same version of SH4 on an older MacBook pro 17 with XP as the OS and there were no problems.

I would appreciate any help in getting this sorted so I can happily continue playing SH4.

Thanks

I seem to be having trouble with RSRD and Windows 7. I perform the following steps
1) Uninstall everything
2) Run a registry sweep to make sure everything is uninstalled
3) Install SH4 as the administrator in C:\\UBISOFT\SH4 or C:\\Program Files (x86)\SH4 (I've done it in both places, with the same crash)
4) Install 1.5 UBoat mission update
5) Install JSME as administrator and create the MOD folder
6) Do fresh install (in order) of RFB 2.0, RFB 2.0 Patch 23 April 2010, RSRDC_RFB_V575 and RSRD_V5xx_Patch1. (Note: I've also done the Trigger Maru +RSRD, with the same results)
7) Start the career game
8) Suffer crash in career mode

The crash happens almost immediately, and seems to only be in career mode. When I de-activate RSRD, the game appears to load normally, ie, no crashes in career mode.

I'm running an HP 230f, 8 GB RAM, 3.2 GB quad processorWindows 7/64 bit OS with ATI Radeon HD5570 video card. All driver software is up to date.

Any ideas of what I'm doing wrong?
