Can someone tell me the hydrophone noise factor rating number meaning? Is lower more or less sensitive?

Also, the sensitivity value ? Is closer to 0 is more sensitive?

thanks

In tweaking sonar, I've found the sensitivity to be a major factor in how effective (or not) active sonar is. But I did this all in AI_sensors.dat from the Library folder. Making the sensitivity values higher in the dat file makes it easier for the AI to locate you. It was very difficult to find a balance.

I found that by lowering sensitivity and increasing active sonars range (to ~ historical values) resulted in the ability to be actively pinged for a long time without the escorts actually locating me. Then again--sometimes they get me on the 1st or 2nd ping. It all comes down to AI Crew Quality and Weather (sonar) conditions.

I didn't change the values in the cfg though as I didn't want to change the base-line I was working with. But your question has given me an idea about another tweak I'd like to try :hmmm:...

If you want, let me know what you're trying to achieve more specifically and I "might" have better answers for you. There are still some settings that remain a bit mysterious though :shifty:.

EDIT: To modify passive sonar, working with ranges seemed to be the best way to get the results I wanted. I'm not sure sensitivity does anything for it. If anyone has more info though, I'd be happy to hear it!
