View Full Version : SH3 Widescreen Solutions Question

I've read through several threads discussing implementing a widescreen solution. So far it appears all solutions will not adjust everything within the simulation (hud dials are oval for example). I just bought a nice $1100 NEC monitor and would like to see SH3 in all its glory. But if some of the graphics are going to be stretched, I would rather stick with 4:3 aspect.

Can anyone here confirm there are no 100% fixes or if one is in the works?

Thanks

Donner -- actually he won't -- he's been there already. He doesn't want any element of the display to be out of proper aspect ratio.

Scrapser, I'm afraid you're stuck with 4:3 then. Find the resolution mod, then set your vertical resolution equal to your native vertical resolution. Naturally your horizontal resolution will be 4/3 that. On my 1920x1200 display, I play at 1600x1200. Gotta have round dials. ;) Furthermore, I use my nvidia driver to force the issue, so that the proper aspect ratio is preserved, so my display doesn't stretch the horizontal resolution to fill my monitor. I have black bars on the side as I play SH3. I really don't mind it though.

Thanks very much for your clarification. I have read the thread Donner suggested along with several others (thanks Donner).

My NEC monitor is a 24" (1920x1200 native) with a "H-IPS" type LCD screen. The color accuracy and clarity along with the shear size makes me feel like I'm looking through a window. Anyway, I already found that I need to control aspect with my nVidia control panel or else I cannot preserve the 4:3 ratio in SH3. I will use the resolution mod as you described.

That high res mod fix works perfectly for 4:3 aspect. Too bad the 16:9 or 10 resolutions end up stretched a bit. I tried to ignore it but that just makes it worse for me. I'm at 1600x1200 and on this monitor that is huge! The vertical is 12.75 inches making the true horizontal 17 inches. It's not widescreen but close enough to make you feel like you could step through and get your feet wet!

I play the game in my laptop @ 1440x900 and looks awesome, it also looks awesome if I use the desktop puter with a Sony monitor in native resolution of 1280x1024, the game itself highlights your monitor's native resolution and refresh rate, isn't?

Woops
Never mind, thought this was a problem with SH4.
