I'm playing sh3 using NYGM 3.2 and was wanting to make the sky and water surface darker. I don't mind working on the files myself if someone can tell me what to replace. I'm just looking to change the colors not the way the waves work or anything.

Some colours have a significant effect on the sensors, and the NYGM sensors are already well balanced, so you don't want to mess with those... but fortunately you don't need to. NYGM uses the stock colours, I believe, in which case most of the illumination at night comes from the sunreflect node which is ignored by the sensors and can be safely (and easily) changed. To make a simple global change, open scene.dat in S3D and find the sunreflect node and lower its "intensity" (which is 0.9 by default IIRC, so try 0.3 and then adjust to taste). That will make the ships darker. To darken the surface water colour, open SkyColors_Atl.dat and export the reflection map (a TGA image). Open the TGA in an image editor and darken the night colours (it should be obvious which ones they are) then save and re-import into the .dat file. Do the same for the _Med and _Arct files as well. That should do the trick.

To avoid messing up sensors don't change the sunlight node or the ambient light node, nor any of the colours in the EnvColors_XXX.dat files.

Yes, that is great info thanks. I had intended to not bend anything other than the nightime, I will get to work on this. btw, your mods are great I have used them in the past but as far as I know you don't have anything for NYGM 3.2.

Thanks and you're welcome. :)

BTW NYGM does include my horizon fix ;) but that's all.

Good luck with the tweaking.
