View Full Version : [rel] [re-rel] war radio

A few years ago, ChurchSubsim released a war
radio mod to be used with SH3 Commander which
consisted of various radio broadcasts from the
World War II era covering most of the months in
the period from September 1939 to December 1944.

The files were meant to be played on the
gramophone at the start of or during a patrol.
As people added more and more music files to the
gramophone folder, the radio files became lost in
the mix, and impossible to locate.

A second problem was that the volume level of the
files made it difficult for some to hear the
radio broadcast over the Fx sounds of the game.

I have attempted to remedy these problems.
I have added August 1939 to mesh with GWX3.0 and
SH3CMDR as they have added this prewar month to
the game. I have filled in all missing months of
the war and have added 1945.

I have kept the original format of the mod with
the OGG files at the original volume, and have
added a duplicate MP3 set with the volume
increased substantially so they may easily be
heard over the Fx sounds in the game.

For those who choose, for some reason, not to use SH3 CMDR, I have included all the radio files which can be
played at the appropriate time in an external player such as WinAmp or Media Player.

To locate the files, regardless of the number of
music files in the gramophone, I have included a
randomizer (kindly supplied by jimmimadrid) to be
placed in the Ubisoft/SilentHunterIII directory
and to be used instead of the file randomizer in
SH3 CMDR. The SH3 Songrandomizer will mixup the
files in the gramophone folder and number them,
up to several thousand if needed. SH3CMDR will
add the war radio files after all the numbered
files and the Kaleun can then play the radio
broadcasts by selecting the "previous" button
when he first starts the gramophone at the start
of the patrol.

There is a readme included in the download which
will detail the steps needed to activate the
war_radio mod.

One needs only to download the files (OGG, MP3 or
Media Player MP3) one wishes to use, not all three
files. And it is not necessary to install all
the war years; you merely have to install only
those war months or years you are playing.

This revision is in no way associated with the
GWX project. Although he has given permission to
use his work, Church has not contributed to this
revision. All mistakes are mine alone. All
slings, arrows and questions should be directed
to me, irish1958, at the SHIII Mods Forum at
Subsim.

This work would not be possible without the help and cooperation of ChurchSubsim and jimmimadrid.

NOTE: THE DATE OF THE FIRST FILE SHOULD BE AUGUST 1939 NOT AUGUST 1938. This will be fixed, but it will take a while.

Dang...more cool stuff! I curse all you mod-men for making me keep adding cool stuff to my gaming experience. If not for you I might actually have a chance at experiencing real life again. It's been so long!:rotfl:

Good job!

I am not sure what happened. The link was working when I tested it earlier. When I just tested it, it wasn't working so I repaired it and it is now OK.
Here is the direct link:

www.subsim.com/mods1/con/War Radio OGG.7z

which I just tested and is OK.

The file over at the lair is the same, except for a slight change in the readme.

For some unknown reason, certain people have a problem with a particular download site; that is the reason we try to give an alternate site. Unfortunately, I don't have the BtS link working yet.
Which file are you having a problem with? The OGG, MP3 or the Media Player MP3?

Let me know and I will give you a link to another site for download.

No, just when you want to mix up the songs again. SH3CMDR removes the radio files when you have rolled it back so they are not involved in the randomization.

All the Subsim links are repaired and are working. The FileFront link is also working.
Anybody having any problems with the mod?
The August 1939 radio broadcasts are particularly interesting, and will give you something to do on the prewar patrol.:rock:

It was no big deal for me to change so that it would go into the Aug. 1939 folder I created a while back. But some Nub's might not notice. Other than that irish, this is fantastic!

Thanks, I'll fix it. I will make an edit into the first post for now: NOTE: THE DATE OF THE FIRST ENTRY SHOULD BE AUGUST 1939 NOT AUGUST 1938!!!
This might take a while and I will have to change and then upload now files to all three sites.

It's not an issue as long as August 1939 is the earliest career start date. The result will be the same (and as intended) whether the folder was titled 19390801, 19380801 or 15821015.

@irish. You could just update your readme. its alot easier to change the folder date once you DL than for you to go back and redo everything.

@JScones. The problem i had was I created a 19390801 folder specificly to put Sailor Steve's German hits mod into so that I could hear all the music from 1918 to 1939. So when I irish's mod it gave me a seperate folder instead of just incorporating it into my 19390801 folder.

The problem with just updating the readme is that I have to take down the files, change the readme, and then re-upload them. I might just as well change the file itself. JScones suggestion appears the easiest; If nobody notices, it doesn't make any difference. If you make a separate folder and change it, most of the time it will be OK.

Hi Kapt Q and welcome aboard. Unfortunately, filefront takes down my large files if not downloaded in a week or so.
The files are present in the Subsim DL section under SHIII/Fx and Sound mods. So far they are not up yet at the BtS website.
