Just got DW yesterday at Target store. $8.19 out the door. :DL

This is gonna take some time to figure out.

So for now, I'm going to try each platform and take my time.

I assume this is as good as it gets in modern Subs ?

At the moment yes..

However, there are a few bright lights on the far horizon. Maybe we shall see them one day.

@ BH Nuke Until then, I guess this will keep me pretty busy. :DL

I'm gonna wait till I've looked it all over and try everything before I post my shopping list of questions. :haha:

WOW !!! I've been playing around with this on and off all day.

This is definately not an easy sim. :DL

There's a couple of well-documented walkthroughs for the tutorial missions (the ones included in the demo) that are well worth running through a few times to really understand and get the most of the systems (the MH60 tut and the Kilo shallow water tut). Difficult sim to get a grip on, but satisfying when you do.

I feel the same way. If it wasn't a challenge it wouldn't be any fun. :DL

If you come from SH3 then you are already well used to many of the aspects from the late war diesel electrics, mainly snorkel, accoustic torpedoes, etc. so I would recommend you to start with the Kilo. Granted, it's a challenge because of its poorer performance and weaponry, but it will allow you to learn the new sonar and plotting technique without needing to pay much attention to other new stuff. The sonar also resembles much more what you were used to from SH3, with its circular display (More intuitive than the cascade display on US subs, but not as effective)

You can also start with a nuclear, but that will add some complication with the towed array and its influence in the sonar display (course change moves all contacts, duplicated signal -mirrored-, etc.)

So my hint is: One step (New thing to learn) at a time:

1.-Go for the Kilo, learn the new sonar there
2.-Jump to the Akula where you can learn the towed array peculiarities
3.-Now go for a US sub, prefereably the 688i, and learn how to use the cascade display
4.-Go for the helo and learn to fly
5.-Go for the P3
6.-Go for the frigate

Oh, and get LWAMI 3.09, it will fix many bugs and annoyancies as well as improve gameplay a lot and add some nice looking 3D models.

Yeah, it's a pity the Frigate is such a difficult platform to master, because it's the one i think most people want to try ASAP and then possibly get all tied up. I know I felt the same way and couldn't nut out the plot.

I even part-made a FFG tutorial that introduced getting under way, launching and retrieving helos and then attacking targets with the main gun and other armament.

And for the MH-60 tut I did this AAR at SimHQ you might be interested in.

Thx Hitman for the good advice. :salute:

Will try in that order. And will get LWAMI 3.09.

Btw I installed the patch. Was that the thing to do ?

Yes, first of all ensure your game is up to 1.04, and if not, download the official patch and update it. Then you can apply LWAMI 3.09

One quick question. I ticked F.E.M. but it wouldn't let me open the red safety to fire torpedo.

In Kilo demo. So I ramed frieghter. :haha:

I had autocrew on. Tired with it off to manually fire. No dice. :nope:

How do I fire torp ?

I personally like starting with the 688i. I find the waterfall displays a LOT easier to grasp and handle than the Kilo or Akula sonars. When I've taught platforms to people, pretty much everyone has had the easiest time learning the 688i than anything else for starters.

Oh. Make sure you patch up to version 1.04 and grab the LWAMI mod too !

Did both. :DL Blacklight Can you tell me what I did wrong that, I couldn't fire torp ?

Thx for fast response you guys. :salute:

Did you have the target classified on the map ? Torpedoes won't fire unless the target is classified as hostile UNLESS you set the weapon for a "Slapshot".

I tried the snapshot. I got blown up. :har:

This is going to take some time. But that's why I bought it. :DL

I thank all of you and maybe in a year or two from now I might be able to answer a question or two for somebody else. :rotfl:

Thx again to all :salute:

:timeout:I see that you've already received the correct answer, but since I called out another subsimmer for this, I feel I should say something for the sake of consistency. Let's see if I can do this without being "jerkish.":rotfl:

I'll begin with this quote:

Kilo Fire Control Suite
Basic Launch Procedure

1. Assign a target to a tube in the Target Display and assign Present values, then find the corresponding tube number in the Launch Panel.

2. Click F to flood the tube.

3. Click E to equalize the water pressure in the tube.

4. Click M to open the muzzle door. The tube number and the interlock (I) lights are illuminated indicating the weapon is ready to fire.

5. Click FIRE to lift the cover; click again to fire the weapon.

Note: If you have not yet assigned a target to the tube, the FIRE button is disabled and the tube number does not illuminate. Once a target is assigned in the Target Display the tube number illuminates and the FIRE button is enabled.* * *
Tip: If a tube number does not light up and the fire button does not respond check to make sure there is a target assigned to the tube...
(underlining mine)

While it is certainly true that at times, the manual is hard to understand or that information is hard to find, that is not the case here. The problem here involved issues all occuring at the Fire Control station, and the information is located in the Kilo Section, Fire Control station chapter, under a subheading for Basic Launch Procedure. The instructions that if followed, would have avoided the problem is #1 on a numbered step-by-step list of simple instructions. There are TWO highlighted tips provided specifically placed there because SCS anticipated that someone might make this mistake.:nope:

Today, you've successfully been able to cut a corner and get your answer from a charitable member of the forum, and that has probably been to your benefit in the short term. Perhaps this sends a message to you that cutting corners will continue to be of benefit to you as you try to learn the sim. :hmmm:But, I urge you to consider that the time you save by not reading the manual will be lost by the time you waste fumbling with the stations and waiting for responses here, not to mention the frustration you'll experience in the process. It is far more efficient to learn the basics with the resources SCS has given you, and then to use us when particular problems and issues come up (and they will, and we'll help you if we can). With DW, you get out of it what you put into it.

Best of luck.:)
