I'm having trouble finding them because either they are all for 1.5 or don't say at all. I'm at a loss, I'd like to use some sort of Battleship or heavy cruiser, but keep turning up with zilch.

I bet you wouldn't mind Ubisoft makeing a new version of Destroyer Command for future SH-5

I'm sorry I can't help you with your question.

I'm sure someone will head you in the right direction. :salute:

Sniper Fox,
There is a playable Cleveland Class cruiser avaliable for 1.4. I am currently using it and am in command of the USS Atlanta (CL-104). I've completed three patrols and am on a fourth.
The cruiser is an optimal surface warship for a SH4 career. She's fast and maneuverable enough to outrun battlegroups that pose a threat and is heavier than a destroyer. Her guns can reach a target at 14,000 yards easily (though you lose some accuracy), which is a pretty big plus as a tin can's guns can reach up to about 8,000 yards. The catch to using a cruiser is hitting hard and staying out of range. If you let all the escorts swarm in within range, you'd best turn tail and run. You have a couple of options... either knock out all the escorts before they get to you, or knock out a merchant before they come within range... run... and go at it again to take out another merchant.
One of the plusses of using the cruiser is its anti-aircraft capability. You really don't have to fear aircraft at all... on a sub with one or two AA guns you had to worry... but with over 16 AA guns? Anything that is dumb enough to come within range will go up in smoke in a matter of seconds... its a good ship to use if you want to rack up some plane kills.

If you like steaming in fast, hitting hard, and making a lot of smoke and noise... the cruiser is a perfect fit!

If you dont mind me asking, can you please tell me where I can get driveble USS Atlanta? One of thread I found on driveable Atlanta, an author of that thread removed the link to download USS Atlanta for some reason? Same thing applies to several other thread. So if you could tell me where to get these driveable ships, these will be truly appericated.

Thanks!

Its not the USS Atlanta, its simply a Cleveland class CL. However, I filed for command of the USS Atlanta and am using it in the Kill Flags Mod.

Here is the list of Cleveland Class Cruisers, so you can research the ship you want to command and in turn send the request to the Kill Flag Mod Team.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleveland_class_cruiser

Finally, here is the file itself:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=712

To change the name of your cruiser to the ship you want, go to:
My Documents/SH4/data/cfg/SaveGames/00000000/
Open the following files:
ActiveUserPlayerUnits and CareerTrack
Once you open the files, you will be able to find the lines containing your ship's name rather easily. The lines are near the top.

If you can't find "00000000", then look for the folder with a bunch of zeroes and a number at the end. If you have multiple folders then look at the ActiveUserPlayerUnits and CareerTrack files and make sure that they are the correct ones. You will see in the Type line "Light Cruiser".

Hope that helps!

May I ask where you got that cruiser?
I may be interested in bringing it to 1.5 for TSWSM! if thats okay with the maker of it.

Oh darn it! I had my hope high and I thought you were talking about one of several different USS Atlanta ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Atlanta ), not USS Cleveland CL. I have USS Brookyln and Cleveland CLs in my add-on driveable ship collectiosn for SH4 + U boat expasion pack.

:hmmm:

I noticed that you had HK Atlanta and other few several driveable add-on ships but you removed the download links? Is there other way I can get your mods on several driveable warships please? I have been looking foward these mods for SH v1.5.

I'm on patrol with USS cleavland now... I must say she is a quick ship... crappy range though.. And if your gunners are rubbish you are... buggered. 2 destroyers can overwhelm you if you don't make quick hits! even turning to bear your guns still doesnt help :/

I guess i need to get used to it... I was always deadly with the deckgun on the VIIC and XI. I could take out flower corvettes, V&W's and clemson destroyers with the 105 on the XI. clemsons and FC's only with the 88 on the VIIB/C. I once got a V&W but that was a fluke, he tried to ram me and nailed one of the merchants he was escorting so i went to the other side of the merch and pounded em both till they detonated

chaotic, there are lots and lots of 1.5 surface ships. 1.4 is the one who lacks them. There's one thats stickied --- Pocket Battleship, chekc it out from what i can see it looks pretty sly.:|\\

My Montana class concept should work in 1.4. All of the parts are in 1.4 or are included in the mod. Though I have not personally tested it in 1.4.

Hi,

I would like to enjoy this ship too but the extraction process can't complete correctly. Winrar will call ''CRC, corrupts files error'' on 35 items. If i load the files with JSGME anyway it will make SH4 crash to desktop once i click on ''american career'' in the main menu.

What can i do to solve this?

Confirmed. I tested Montana with no problems, tested out your Iowa as well and that works too. Only note I have to anyone is dont start a level using these mods where you are already submerged as your ship will sink to 140 FT. and stay there. Also the Cleveland mentioned earlier works fine as well.

i would imagine any ship that is in v1.4 will work for v1.4

the problem arises when the files arent there fo new ships not in v1.4 and that would be the only reason not to work. in other words try it and see, it wont hurt anything if it doesnt work, it will just ctd and then you know that one wont work.

look to mobius mod links thread for playable ships

find it here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=140742

Is there anyway to make playing the cleavland mod and playing my USS Gudgeon easier than just swappin out all the files and what not? I'm afraid all this swapping and i'll screw up one of these days and leave some clevland files in i'm not supposed to or something....

There wasn't a readme so no way of telling who made it, but you're welcome for testing it out.:)

Anyway would this mod work with that JSME thing?> what does that thing do exactly?

ETR3(SS)
04-18-09, 08:04 AM
Yep I'm a seamen again, although I suspect it won't be for a as long as the last time. And yes it will work with JSGME. What JSGME does is it's a mod enabler/disabler. So instead of going into your Silent Hunter folder and manually copy pasting to activate whatever mod, this will do it for you with a touch of a button bascially. And disabling is just as easy as it makes backups of the files changed when you disable the mod you were playing.

I tried out hte montana... it has too much armour i think. I went toe to toe with 2 BB's and 2 CA's and came out... well untouched. 2 crew were wounded 1% (so they had 99% left) and my gun was damaged the tiniest bit. dispite taking hundreds of hits. I dont think this is even possible. Plus your crew refuses to fire at anything over 5000m away.

There are two seperate cfg files that control when ships fire. One for the player AI and one for the enemy AI. I am at work right now so I cant point you to the exact location. Maybe someone can come along and give you the info quicker.

Stock settings to open fire from memory I belive are player AI 5000m and enemy AI 6000m.

Had the Navy built them they likely would take little damage from anything but torps bombs and yamato main guns. The damage model is not very good. I will fix it when the new S3D is released.

haven't been able to spot a BB since i made the range changes, but i have taken out a few fishing ships at about 6000-7000m sooo.... wicked!:yeah:

I still feel too powerful with the montana. Bombs are your only enemy. I almost lost my guncrew to a searchplane, when it horizontally bombed my guns. badly wounded and my turret half destroyed I had to get back to midway before my main arment and guncrew were in good shape for battle.

I wonder if anyone has made an Alaska Class BC for 1.4
