Hello all,
Just bought SH3, and I'm wondering how I can alter the sub speed to make them go faster. Not accelerate the game, just go faster. I just like speed but can't alter a game properly to save my life.

Which boat are you driving? I'll get you a modified file for that boat that will let you run fast, shoot fast, & dive fast.

...My answer is "all of them". (If possible.) Seriously though, I'll take whichever.

Bloody show off in the movie clip unless you've got WW2 jet engine built inside the engine room I reckon it possible to dive up and down that quick.

If the man wants to spend his time playing Call of Duty with torpedoes, let him!

I can give you a starter. Go to
E:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Submarine

or wherever you've got shiii installed

open up the appropriate folder for the type of boat whose speed you want to adjust. In there is a .cfg file. Open it with notebook and at the top of the list you'll find a value for the top speed of the boat.

There may be other things you need to do, dunno, never tried it. Someone else will know tho! Meantimes back your file up and try it.

EDIT: or just try the s-boot mod. Should satisfy your speed urges.

Whooooo :06::06::06: meeeeeeee :hmmm::hmmm::yawn::yawn::yawn:Personally I don't like that sort of cheating, but if you really want to go faster, you can go to programs/ubisoft/shIII/cfg/main and watch for the engine upgrades...GW and MAN. There is a string called SpeedBoost (normal 1.01(?) and 1.1)...Just increase them... (sub normal speed X speedboost value = new max speed)...this value will affects all subs...but you must buy a supercharger to get the effect.

Solution n°2...switch to Mikhayl's Schnellboot mod 40 knots for free:up:

People are making wisecracks about 'Noobs' and 'cheating'. I also like to play in what I think is a 'realistic' fashion, but don't let them discourage you from doing what you want.

Why not just pick another game for that huh ?

Some people still don't know the meaning of word SIMULATION here as I see.

Simulation must stay simulation, without any transformation to some half arcade crapy game.

I will always fight for ideology and purpose of simulation games!
Becouse this is the way they ment to stay
I think it's not right to do whatever you want with this game this way distorting historical facts and showing lack of respect for these guys who sacrificed they free time to make this game look more REALISTIC.

Dunno how more clear to be on this one.

Wow...thats a pretty harsh judgement Contact.

I enjoy the game immensely, even if I don't play anywhere near the realism levels that some people here do. Does that make me in any way less respectful of what the modding community achieve? Is it not enough to enjoy the game, and the modding of it, as a mark of respect to the game developers and modding community?

Your opinion is important, and I respect it. Be sure you can say the same about how others choose to play this game.

You choose how realistic your in game environment is going to be by knowing how hard you can push yourself for realism settings to be as much close to these feelings that real U-boat captains were experiencing. Not forgeting it's just a game for the sake of healthy mind of course. If you just use the settings which the game itself represents to you it's nothing wrong in it. But when things comes to trigering something like in this thread: the speed of u-boat ? :nope:

Sorry but I finding this disgusting in all means. This is like using the cheat and a simulation disfigurement and I hope you understand why.

Or if this is for the "leting the steam go" there are plenty shooters to choose from and I bet the results would be much better than messing up decent game like SH3.

I must agree somewhat with Contact not because of the OP's rather humble request but I've seen some bizarre recent requests for not only for speed, but unlimited fuel, an unlimited number of torpedoes tipped with nuclear weapons, battleship turrets for deck guns, titanium armour plating and could modders come up with a way to instantly teleport my sub to the patrol area so I can dispense with the tedious traveling part. If you need stuff like this you're simply bored with the concept of the game or very risk adverse.

Omg it's even worse than I thought it could be.. It's no big deal if some of our noobs has big imagination. But what frightens me the most is that some of ours senior community members says: "if they want to play this way, let them" :o

Are they going totaly crazy or something ?

Maybe it's because they are a bit more mature in their attitude towards this sort of thing than you are.

How would you like it if a load of people came here and started to accuse you of glorifying war by using a simulation to kill thousands of people.

Think about it for a while and calm down. You're taking this all too seriously.

It's his Sim, he payed for it as did you, so play it any damn way you like.

All I try to say is that there has to be a sane limits in moding or whishing for the mod historically! Not some fictioned s***. Wanna have flying uboat ? it's your call but you're gonna look like a ****in clown here or just make me angry again.

And we're not talking about concscience thing on how should I feel in sinking ships now. Its very out of topic we are discussing here. You're flouncing

Why do there have to be sane limits? and who put you in charge of the modding rule book?

As for myself I play at 100% realism and keep things as real as possible, but that's my decision. I didn't make that decision because someone here spouted off about the way they think I should play the sim.

If this sort of thing gets you that angry maybe you should up the medication before you hurt yourself.

Also, this thread wasn't off topic before you took it that way, it's a modding forum and the Op was asking how to mod the subs speed.

I honestly don't know why you're getting so worked up, it's not your sim he's modding....is it?

gordonmull
04-07-09, 12:48 PM
C'mon what's all this aggro over modding a u-boats speed???

There was a time when we were all amused by the mighty Whatthefark and Catafark. Nuclear torpedoes, remember them? In fact back in the day I'm pretty sure there WAS a mod floating about that increased the uboat's speed.

It's not often I'd get sucked into a thread like this but this guy's just signed up to the forum, normally a friendly and helpful place, and gets greeted with name calling and friction. What kind of welcome is that?

He wants to play unrealistically, so what? Playing games or using simulators, however you look at it, should be a way to relax.

OK, I uploaded the 'Bionic Type 7s.zip' to my Filefront page. It modifies speed, crush depth, torpedo speed & power, gun speed & power, let's you 'see' farther with the hydrophones. It will be fun for a while anyway.

Back up each and every one of these files (the real ones) before you drop these into your game's data folder. Also, these will work if you are running SH3 v1.4b. If you are running any of the ubber mods, they might not work.

Copied old files and moved the new ones in. However whenever I try to drive the VIIb, the program crashes. Any ideas?

No, not right now. If you copy your original files back into the game - does it work then?

If it does, then if you just put the two 7b files back into it's submarine folder, will it work then?

If we can get you back working, then i will show you how to do the mods yourself.

Great! I was worried that we broke it!

Now, go to my filefront page and download the Timetravelers mods there.

http://hosted.filefront.com/bobchase/2194704

You will only need the SH3 Inspector to change your speed. If you download the Mini Tweaker mods (two files) I can also teach you to change the torpedo speed, default depth, hit power, etc. That one can also be used for better gunnery too.

There is another file up there called Wofies TweekPak. I can teach you how to use that one too. I use it for changing my default torpedo loadout for my boats. It saves time in the game like when the type 2 torpedo is available and I don't want to spend time loading each one into the boat, swapping out the type 1s.\ just to start a mission Another use that is nice for someone who is just getting started with the game is to load up some of each of the torpedos to see how they perform.

Anyway, download the mods and I will talk you through them.

What an abbrassive and egotistical character you are Contact - perhaps you would think twice if you had an inkling that your attitude to newcomers here has the ability to give this forum a bad name. Did that even cross your mind?

Instead of a belligerent attitude, and attempting to force your own views down people's throats, why not try and engage newcomers with a more friendly approach? You might be suprised at how successful that may be.

As we say in Australia, pull your neck in mate

Yeah right.. as far as I can remember myself as a noob here I didn't come here asking: "Hey how can I make my u-boat go as fast as PT boat or can I have God mode nuke torp ?" in my first post out of the blue. I came here already seriously knowing where I came, why I'm going to participate in this community and what attitude I will be holding on. I came here because there are plenty of superb moders with attitudes to make this game even more realistic. Not the up side down. And if anyone has a problem with it screw them.
So there is absolutelly no need to try changing up my mind, you'll fail anyway.

This is getting out of hand, let newcomers play any way they like, but use encouragement to bring them from a "arcade" player to a "simulation" player. Chasing people away for not jumping into 100% realism right away is foolish at best, we need new players, we need support for this game and the people who choose to play it no matter how that play style is.

I play at 84% realism, should I be called a "noob" or boo'd and hissed at ?? I don't think so I support everyone here and stay a friendly member to aid those newcomers with helpful advise. Not everyone knows about WW2 and not everyone cares about it, not your fault or there's but don't pass out blame and shame by the spoon full without taking a dose for yourself.

Think before you type..

Enjoy SH3 your way now and the right way later, is what I say :salute:

Contact have you been voted some kind of spokesman for SH3 rights of players or have you decided to start a crusade against playing the game the way the player wants too.
A lot of new players like to play outside of the normal game play its how they build up their enjoyment for the game and after a period of time they will start playing the game realistically using what they learnt.
Its called enjoyment

Long before you came here there were modders attempting to make the game more real. There were also modders having fun making it less real. Is there a reason there can't be both?

It's okay to disagree with somebody. It's not okay to insult them and call them names just because they want to play a different way. You may call them 'noobs', but you're acting like a child. Please try contributing something positive and intelligent to the conversation, or at least please stop flaming and spamming those who feel differently than yourself.

About the modders I will say this way: those who create mods with intension to build more realistic game is far more worth of respect than those who does it less real as you say. But I woun't going into details explaining this another 1k times again why, because if I try I think I'm gonna throw up. If you feel no difference in that... ? it's sad but I have nothing more to add :nope:

Now am I insulting here anybody ?! Everyone of us was a noob in the past so what ? I was a noob when I first saw SH3! so what ?
Treat this game right way and I'll be very happy with all of you, because I do so. And I wish to see others do the same! What's wrong in that ?

Finally how can I say something inteligent when I see dumb mods requests ? Sh** starts to boil inside me. And every time I see only positive replys no matter how crapy thing might be! Like everyone is affraid to tell what they realy think.

In my way, first place goes to sincerity, only second to discreety.
