View Full Version : Trying to improve the bowspray resolution!!

Hello to all in these days after the D & D * wake * mod I'm trying to get a bow-spray more realistic, however, the project is very complex :hmmm:because after analyzing the structure of MEG1.0 I saw that there are tgafiles from an old mod Sale999 Wake Mod 1.2. These files are in the TEXTURE folder / TNormal / TEX here there are 6 files TGA

bubbles_01
splash_vert01
splash_vert
twirl_soft_big
twirl_soft_new
twirl_soft_big_blur

of these

bubbles_01.tga responsible for the Bowwave of all U-Boats
splash_vert.tga responsible for the Bowwave of Merchants and Tankers
splash_vert01.tga responsible for all Bowwaves of all Warships


twirl_soft_big responsible for the Aftwaves of all ships
twirl_soft_new responsible for the Aftwakes of all ships
twirl_soft_big_blur responsible for the Aftwaves of all ships

MEG-1.0 contains this mod and also the 6 tga.files .... with the installation of MEG2.0 some files are modified

with the installation of 2.0 MEG these 2 files become white as if there was nothing designed, so now I do not know what to change to increase the resolution!
can you help me understand better how I can do to bring a change in bowsplash ... I also noticed that while increasing the resolution of bubbles.tga does not improve the appearance of the bow-wave:hmmm:

Now what I can do?

I already told you that you'll have to adjust the FastParticleGenerator responsible for each kind of wave for every ship, sub, and Turm in order to do this correctly.

I agree with RB.
You may also want to add a new FPG in most areas.
As the stock ones lack any real dimensional feel.

I'm sorry mates, but I have tried to find this program FastParticleGenerator with google, but are shown numerous web sites showing the particles generator used in nuclear physics :damn:... can you show me an exact link where I can find a presentation of the FPG and the explanation of its operation?

Hi Desga!

The fast particle generator is no programm!
It is a oarticle generator which is responsible for making effects in the Sh3 engine. To make new or change effects you have to change the values or whatever with a tool like s3d. Very many files have particle generators. Just have a look in some files like particles.dat in the library folder.

ok now I am a bit confused ... but if I wanted to change the bowspray what should I do? which sequence of actions should I take?
if the FGP is not a program, how can I use it? help me understand if you can ... I know so little about this topic but I'd like to achieve something like the bow spray. I believe that only experienced people like you can make me understand something about this topic.

Desga,

Useing S3D, open the .val file of any Ship.
You'll find the FastParticalGenerators in there.
It's what makes the Bow waves and such in the SH3 and SH4 Games.
It seems a bit complicated at first.
But by makeing small changes and looking at them in Game,
will help you learn what they do, and how they work.

ok I'm trying to understand something about this new world!:yeah:
now in the folder C: \ Programs \ Ubisoft \ SilentHunterIII \ data \ Sea I opened the folder NBB_Nelson inside through S3editor I opened Nelson.val and now I can see what is inside .... if I click on wake I see ...
but now what do I do? where do I change the parameters?:hmmm:

Look under #24,26,28. Those are the "FastParticalGenerators" that privateer is referring to.

ok I opened the first FPG, I see many parameters within each major consists of other parameters, but now I have to change them all? There are specific parameters that affect bowspry? or I have to modify all? :hmmm:
