well corotio has two brand new ones he added for the truk atol mod but i see nothing about how to open or make that file extentions
just trying to learn another area of modding if i can
Right-click and try to open with other common programs.
Like Notepad, 7zip etc mediaplayers and whathaveyous..
I'd try even S3D, hehe...
If its a packed file most likely 7zip will be able to open it and extract it.
Or with the notepad you can read whats innit. Should give you something.
Maybe remove it and see if it affects the game somehow,
thought it is hard to tell without knowing what its spose to do...
Also, with Hex editor you could probably see the header which might tell you
more about the file.
Experiment!
That's all she wrote.
:haha:
Allrite, did a check and I got 2 files on the backup folders.
Both 1.4 and 1.5 version stock has these files.
\Terrain\Data\W158N022\W158N022.ZHF
\Terrain\Data\W158N022\W178N029.ZHF
I did check out them but they didn't have any meaningfull words innit.
Not with Hex editor atleast. 7zip failed also so I don't think they are packed
any normal way, if at all.
So, 1 folder up there's files like:
\Terrain\Data\TerrainData.BFD
\Terrain\Data\TerrainData.BFI
BFD (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=opera&rls=en&hs=p9W&q=file+extension%3A+BFD&btnG=Search) search.
BFI (http://www.google.com/search?client=opera&rls=en&q=filetype+BFI&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8) search.
I guess so the 1gig file TerrainData.BFD holds the data.
and TerrainData.BFI might be some sorta index for it.
Check this out. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binary_File_Descriptor_library)
Im no real hacker so im just guessing here.
I suppose these are files (data library) for the terrain editor or somesuch
that Ubisoft used.
Question is, what app did they use?
Might be home brew apps.
:arrgh!:

The ZHF are the height files for the terrain. Ref did a really nice terrain editor which he released for everyone to use. I'll see if I can find it.
EDIT: OK, here it is, I *think* ZHF files are the terrain files, it's been a long time... http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=89658&highlight=terrain+editor
Better be quick though, it's only up on FF and it's the 30th!
Allrite, mystery solved.

I'm not 100% sure, but I'm fairly sure.
The W158N022.ZHF is a location on the globe, ie W158 is West 158 degrees and N022 is North 22 degrees. There's a main data file which is over a gig and is the whole world and any patches you want to make to the world you put in that sub folder. Each square is a one degree by one degree patch and Ref's arrange the editor so you can extract a square into a depth file (black and white values representing height) and you can change it in a paint program and then import it back in. A very clever little program and very useful if you want to do that sort of thing. :yeah:to Ref.
