Patch 1.4b problem

Im trying to install SH3 onto a different computer than i usually use. i have the European release on Pc-DVD-Rom. (basically the UK version)
I bought this about 18months ago and had no problems moddng immediately to GWX etc. Now, though, after downloading the patch "EMEA DVD" im getting this in a pleasant little dialogue box that is starting to annoy:

The program cannot update the installed version of silent Hunter III EMEA DVD v1.0 o v1.3 because of the following reason:

"C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\MissionEngine.dll: unknown version."

I have already xperienced trying to partch the wrong version patch (eg the US version instead of EU) so I know that language issue that prevents installation.

Has anyone any ideas what is going on now? Is this also the wrong patch for UK edition? Where can I get it? The Ubisoft website does not have what im looking for and I sick of registering with file sites just for this one download...

well right clicking on mine and selecting properites --> advanced reveals no verison information at all. Does your missionengine.dll specs resemble this (like the size and modified date):

and it's not marked Read-only right?

Maybe this could be the problem (what is the size of your patch - 15.4Mb or 13.7Mb?):

US = United States, EMEA = Europe, Middle East and Asia

The DVD patch is for those people who have installed Silent Hunter III from a DVD, the download patch is for those people who have purchased and downloaded Silent Hunter III from the Internet.

excellent point! I wonder if his main screen doesn't show v1.4 in the bottom right corner already?

another way is right clicking on sh3.exe -> Properties -> tab Version, and you will see the version number...

That's it. i never even thought to check. It is the most up to date version so it wont accept patch on an already patched version! Heh.

Although i have successully installed NYGM + associated mods, but i am testing by entering the library to view units etc. Eveything looks good except when i adjust the camera angle, say, such that i can see the horizon the FPS takes a MASSIVE hit and the game seems to slow down to an unaccepable speed. (I havent got a specific FPS figure, but it is sloooow)
Has anyone got any suggestions as to how I can adjust the enviroment to suit my machine? Do is use the in-game txture quality/density lvels or is there an alternative in one of the mods?

1.79GHz, 1.0 GB RAM

control+F8 will show you your FPS. You can adjust the particle denisty in the options menu when the game first loads - Options --> video settings and then adjust the slider for particle density
