Hey all,

Wanted to give a shout out to the GWX team and Racer boy's SH4 to SH3 converstion.

I basically play GWX3.0 w/SH4toSH3.
I don't really know if all the sounds are just GWX or part of Racer boys as well?
I also don't know about water clarity etc.

What I do know is this is a NEW GAME now.

I went hunting in the channel and it's not very deep there.
So you can't exactly run silent run deep.
I have never been able to out fox the destroyers.
I was a mater of damage control and getting a lucky torp shot or death before GWX
Now I can tell roughtly where the destroyer is pinging me from via sound.
I can hear the destroyer when it gets really close and discovered an actual use for the observation periscope as it can look almost directly up.
Via Flank or emergency back and geting hard starbord/port down I played cat and mouse with 3 destroyers attached to a large convoy in the channel.
I took zero damage able to make literally watch the destroyers coming and getting away from them.
I have never seen such awesome AI, the original SH3 destroyer AI was moronic compared.
After I figured out their typical run pattern I started positioning myself to take torp shots.
I eventually blew all three out of the water with side shots not straight on or straight away hits.
Unaware of the 4th destroyer I poped up in the middle of the convoy and started decking the ships.
Then I hear gunfire and dive ready for another destroyer hide and seek. It refused to approach nearer than 2000yrds, guess it figured I'd blow it away too?
Also the orginal SH3 I never recall T1's ever causing anything but a destroyer to notice and avoid the torp especially when it was first round.
Now most times if I shoot a loaded T1, short of very dark outside they go flank and your likely to miss.
Now adding a few knots but not to many to the solution so I don't miss... wow again.

Thanks for all the hard work on these projects.

PS: A thanks to bts-mod who unlike file lets me realize I really am on a 10Mbps pipe.

Time to go sink some ships :arrgh!:

I love blowing up military ships versus cargo ships.

I modded out the campaign random in the original game to be flooded with British Navy vessels by just increasing probability and time of start/finish on what was already there.

Until then the stock game made me think if this is what it was really like, Hitler was a fool to never invage England they don't have enough Navy to stop me.
I used to run the channel all the time with no traffic at all on it.
After my mod it felt like there was a legitimate strong English Navy.

So the amount of ships etc. is considerably increased in GWX... but I'm still suprised at how few "task forces" as well as non-destroyer Navy ships are out and about in the game.
Looks like 1942? picks up a lot and I haven't played a career to that year yet so I will see if that happens.

Maybe an official GWX update sometime that increases the probability of British/American Battle ships showing up in increased numbers?

PS: I did run into a 3 cruiser task force running at 16kts. I couldn't get closer than 2000m but that was good enough. My first salvo had only one hit, but I got lucky and hit a secondary magazine on the lead cruiser a Fuji, no sink but almost immediate stop. I then one shoted torps at the other two which were auxilary. I missed a lot, but I got super lucky on both when I did hit.
I managed to blow the magazine on both ships when I hit them. Huge explosions and each completely sunk in less than a minute.

Looking for more opertunities like this.

I think you're trying to give me credit for something that I didn't do. I had/have no part in GWX. The things I do are mostly visual items like the SH4 to SH3 you speak about.
I am a little worried though as the SH4 to SH3 (my original version and not Asanovic7's) is not fully compatible with GWX 3.0. I know they have some new sounds and have modified the zones.cfg file which could eventually crash your game when the game engine goes looking for something it can't find.
If you are using my original version of SH4 to SH3 then yes you are hearing the new sounds I made and put in (I added many new underwater sounds with that one). Also, if you are using my original version then you have the option of using the Live AI ships idea of mine which you probably aren't using yet.
Bottom line is I don't recommend using my original version of SH4 to SH3 effects with GWX 3.0. Until I release RFX you're much safer using something else or their default.
