I have done fresh install of SH III with the patch and then Grey Wolves Gold.
When the game is loading (before the main menu screen)the red bar goes halfway accross the screen when I hear a windows exclamation "DING" and stops.

I minimize the screen and see this error.

I get this error whether I have any mods loaded or not.

Any ideas?

I am sure someone can help you soon, but first post your computer specs. I am sure they will ask you for it.
Good Luck

Did you check the MD5 on the GWX file down load?

1. Double check that you don't have this error with vanilla (unlikely, but woth a look).
2. Check the MD5 on the GWX file download - some people have experienced corruption when downloading the single GWX file so it may be worth trying to download the eight-piece file.
3. Do you have any other mods enabled?
4. What are your system specs - GWX is slightly more system heavy than vanilla.

I'm with irish - it's probably a corrupted GWX download.

Ok got the game to load. Thank you. New problem..

The sound is wierd. Some crewman I can't hear or barely hear.

Anyone else have this problem? It's new to me. I ran Grey Wolves 2.0 without this problem.

If you're running the game with SH3 Cmdr and have changed the Character Animations, Sound Effects and/or Particle Rendering time compression settings, reset them to the default level.

How did you fix the first problem? It may be related to the second one.
Have you checked sound drivers and volumes both in-game and on your regular desktop? Do you have the same sound problems with Windows Media Player etc?

I fixed the first problem by re downloading all of the GWX files. Uninstalled the game, went into explorer and deleted the Silent hunter directory, for some reason the uninstall did not remove it.

I did a fresh install and it loaded great.

If a crew member is talking and I'm at the plotting table or the periscope I can barely hear him. If I switch to the control room, even when the crew member is in mid sentence I can hear him just fine.

I just did the convoy for Naval academy graduation. I torpedoed the destroyer (2 fish 9 degree spread 600m at firing) got one hit. It sank.

Surfaced behind the trawler and took out it's guns with the 20 mm and sank it with gunfire.

Took out the rest with surface action gunfire and fish.

It was then that I notice that passing some points of the compass while firing I can barely hear the gun that I'm firing. Have the same problem with firing torpedos. Sometimes I hear them go off. Sometimes not. Even tho I'm always facing in the direction of firing. Either in Periscope or TBT.

I'm not really that bothered by the sound glitche excepr that I run all my approaches in real time. I need to be able to hear the sonarman calling out continuous bearings to escorts and stuff.

These are the mods I'm running, all of them come with the GWX pack.

As for the system.

A Intel Quad Core Extreme 3.2 ghz
4 gig ram (using 3.25 with XP)
Sound Blaster Audigy (latest drivers loaded)
ATI 4870x2 with 2 gig of DDR5 video memory

I do not run SH commander. Never downloaded or intalled

Thanks for the help.

I'm getting hooked on the game. Are there online servers out there that are stil popular?

I got silent hunter IV. I'm, a Pacific war fan but I miss being able to control how high the periscope is out of the water and a few other things that I'm getting used to in SH# that are not in SH-IV

I have no idea what the sound problems are, but here a a couple of things to try:
Turn down or off sound acceleration
Go to the options in the menu and fiddle around with the settings to see if you can get it better.
Try earphones instead of speakers.
Update the driver on your sound card.
Clean the wax out of your ears.:rotfl:

Try this site WWW.COMSUBSPAC.COM (http://www.COMSUBSPAC.COM)
We are on every day playing MP with both SH3 Vanilla and GWX 3.0 and sometimes SH4.
All you need to do to check us out is register on the above web site and get Teamspeak (info on home page) and have a mic. With TS we can sort out all kinds of problems: game play, hosting issues and connection problems to name a few.
Welcome aboard

Ok got it figured out... It WAS NOT the GAME..

You're post got me to thinking.

I have a USB headset from c media. I plugged it in the drivers loaded and the sound was perfect.

That means the issue was with my Audigy card. I uninstalled the Audigy Card and deleted it's INF folder from within the Windows directory. This stopped the computer from redetecting the sound card automatically.

I downloaded the latest drivers again, installed them then ran the creative labs auto updater.

Sound is back to normal. The only thing I can think of that might have screwed it up is Audible.Com's manager. I use it to listen to "Car Talk." That's the only thing different on my machine from now and the last time I played SH3. I of course uninstalled the Audible software.

Thanks all for the tips.

I'll be checking out the Website for online play.
